View 2 RepliesI couldn't get GADMIN-PROFTPD to activate so I activated it using sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd start Now when I have proftpd started from the terminal command line and go to [URL] in firefox I get a white browser window but no directory listings without any promtp for a username or password (192.168.1.100 being my internal LAN server IP address) Can you tell me what I am doing wrong with the below config?

I want to set up a ftp site for a few buddies to grab some files from me but I have no clue how to install this gadmin-proftpd-0.4.0. It shows a gui so how do I get that I am currently running ubuntu 10.04 w 3gb ram w a amd 9850 2.5ghz cpu on my server.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid Lynx and I am setting up gadmin-Proftpd and when I try and activate it. I get the following message and am really unsure where to go from here:
- notice: unable to bind to Unix domain socket at '/var/run/proftpd/test.sock': No such file or directory
- notice: unable to listen to local socket: Operation not permitted
- Fatal: TLSRSACertificateFile: '/etc/gadmin-proftpd/certs/cert.pem' does not exist on line 56 of '/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf'
That PoS called "gadmin-proftpd" does.NOT.work in debian stable and I don't believe it will ever work. Is there an alternative GUI for configuring proftpd or it has to be done in text mode?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cant figure out why my server running fc14 keeps saying login incorrect 530. I am using gproftpd. I know that the login is correct though. For instance:
Lets say my user is "goober" and my pass is "fedora" and I go and type that in when I try and login to the ftp it says login incorrect.
I recently reinstalled my server, a Dell PowerEdge 1650 (well it works...., 'sides for what I want to do with it it's more then strong enough.) got debian on it, and then specifically Lenny. works great exept for one thing: Gadmin-ProFTPd.when I try to start it using SSH (which I always use to administrate my server) I get only this as a error: segmentation error I just noticed, that durning startup it already displays a error, mainly this: starting ftp server: proftp[ 77.535939] warning: 'proftp' uses 32-bit capabilities (legacy support in use)
- warning: unable to determen ip address of 'server01.locals_foxofinfinety_com'
- error: no valid server configured
- fatal: error processing configuration file '/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf' failed!afther that is starts atd, cron and apache and further works............
I can get a tunnel connected via terminal with: openvpn --config client.ovpn
However, when I tried to use the "friedly" gui (gadmin-openvpn-client), it keeps telling me to "import server certificates into client first."
I don't know what that means. Nor, do I see a tun device.
Is it possible to get "GADMIN PRO FTP" to pull data from a seperate server running MySQL? I want a little project and I've done a bit of asp.net where the user enters their data and is then saved to an sql database. I thought it would be cool to be able to get the ftp software to create a new user by pulling this data so then, potentially creating a simple sign up process. I am comfortable with setting up a separate server running MySql, I just want some confirmation of this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDid a fresh install of Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 64-bit on my Dell D630.
I installed the Samba and used GADMIN-Samba to configure. The networking area is as follows:
But I'm am unable to attach to the SMB share. When I do a port scan on the PC network address it shows the port for SSH open along with the random high number ports for web connections but not the port for SMB (445). If I port scan 127.0.0.1 it shows SSH, netbios-ssn, and SMB open.
I've tried adding a rule to UFW and disabling UFW but it makes no difference.
I'm able to connect to SMB shares off of my Windows Desktop, so I know my home router isn't filtering any internal traffic.
have setup proftpd via gadmin, all is well and is activated. This is where im being stupid - what setting do i use in my ftp prog (filezilla)??
host: ive put my ip address (77.xx.xxx.xx)
user name and password
However, i have a number of computers on my network, obviously when i try to ftp into my server how does it know which one to connect to? or is this not required.i need to get this working within the next few hours, or ill be in do-dos.
I have installed ProFTPD in Ubuntu 10.04 in a Cloud Server (console only) but I am not being able to set users and access via FileZilla.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 9.10, and am trying to get proftpd to listen on a port other than 22. I've modified the proftpd.conf file, as well as adding the desired port to my /etc/services file, yet if I try anything other than port 22, the connection is refused.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up proftpd many times now one Ubuntu 9.10 and never ran into any problems. I decided to go ahead and do a clean install of the new 10.04 and set everything back up (ie ssh ftp apache... ect)I got done with ssh with no problems and started working on getting proftpd up and running just like I've always have. But now every time I try to login it gets to where it should list all the files in my dir and it just times out. If I connect through my network (192.168.1.101) everything works fine so I dont think its my .conf file.ll ports are open that are needed and I even tried opening up the passive ports to see if that would help but it does not.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm trying to change permissions so i can upload to my proftp server. i can download ok but i want to access most folders via ftp so i can upload to them, at the moment i get permission denied message.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am using proftpd-mod-sql on ubuntu 10.04lts and i am trying to give the ftp users access to my external usb hdd's because the internal drive is too small.
I am using vusers in a sql db. They are associated to the ftpuser and ftpgroup. My drives are mounted to /media/... and belong to my user and group. The rights are set to 0700. So my ftp users have no access to it and i cannot change it. I could change the vusers uid/guid to my username but i think, that is not a good solution.
I would like to have access to the usb drives with the ftp users and with my ordinary username (for xbmc and samba access).
I'm having problems with the ftp-server ProFTPd,If I transfer files from a Linux host to a Windows client, it says that my transfered files are damaged, so I'm unable to open them..I've searched this forum and several people say I have to set the default transfer mode to 'binary' mode.I did that, but it didn't work at all for me... so despite the binary transfer mode my files are still damaged when I transfer them.when I do it through SSH, it works fine, so the problem is the FTP-server...
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have been havin a little trouble with my ftp server im using proftpd and have been able to connect to the box on local lan but it stops with an error about tls packet.
i have been following a guide on settin up my server [URL]...and have attached my config and error details
Proftpd is installed and running fine on 8.04 server. I want to streamline the process of adding users. Adding a ftp user with USERADD fails (user is created but connection fails when trying to connect with ftp client).
Code:
useradd -d /ftp/ftphome/myuser -g ftp -m -p mypassword -s /usr/sbin/nologin myuser
But, ADDUSER works:
Code:
adduser myuser
usermod -d /ftp/ftphome/myuser -g ftp -m -p mypassword -s /usr/sbin/nologin myuser
It's a bother because I want to automate the process, and ADDUSER has all those prompts and asks for the password twice.
I already have my laptop as a server using a LAMP server + proftpd and the FTP->MySQL link up. I built myself a new Headless and set up the SSH and VNC on it and all that good jazz. LAMP works and everything. Proftpd+MySQL (using the proftpd-mod-mysql package from repo) doesn't seem to work on this headless box. So I used the tutorial from [URL]... Thinking "I'm using 10.04 - it's close enough". Both came up with the same error. 421 Service not available when I ftp from the localhost. Is their something I'm missing? the Laptop set up (also 10.04) works groovy fine. Also all the log files are blank.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Ubuntu 10.10 and setup Proftpd apps which I would like to use to access to my files from outside of my SOHO LAN network. This is work on LAN very well but from outside I get some error msg. However I establish connection with my Ubuntu FTP Server machine but I can't get list of files and folders on server.
I get this error msg:
227 Entering Passive Mode 89,216,116,8 243,96 --> i know what this no means: my Stat IP and the port
500 Illegal Port Command
Get Directory
FTP Port Command failed
Some Additional Information:
On the edge of SOHO LAN i use Cisco router for access to the Internet.
NAT is configured, PAT (NAT overload) is configured also.
I forward ports which I needed for FTP: 21 and 20, and passive ports 60000 - 60001.
When I use Windows OS and BUlletProof FTP server (port 21 or some custom port i.e. 65021) I only forward that port (21 or custom port i.e. 65021) and everything works great.
I am pretty new to Linux and I want to start a ftp server with proftpd. Well sofar I have made one but there is one problem when I login with windows, the computer don't ask for a username and password. Instead he just show some folders from my home directory.
I have used the standard proftpd config file, and tried to change some things with online tutorials but non of them worked with windows (only for linux ftp connections). Can some of you refer me to a good tutorial for a multi user ftp linux server or explane me what to do?
How can I configure proFTPd to deny all unless:User is part of group: ftpguysClient IP matches either: 1.1.1.1 or 2.2.2.2 or 3.3.3.3I already have the config file (proftpd.conf) setup to only allow users who are part of the group ftpguys. To do that I use this:
Code:
<Limit LOGIN>
AllowGroup ftpguys

which is the best vsftpd or Proftpd or Pureftpd ?
which is high secure and reliable ?
Pureftpd or Proftpd can install on Centos ?
I followed this tutorial trying to set up proftpd. I'm using Slackware 13.1, but I had assumed most of the tutorial was all relevant still.Using the default proftpd.conf file, I was able to do anonymous login, but I was hoping to use the conf file in the tutorial to only allow certain users, so it currently looks like this:Quote:
# To really apply changes reload proftpd after modifications.
AllowOverwrite on
AuthAliasOnly off

I run Debian 5 64-bit machine with 2 IP-addresses. I installed ProFTPd through init.d instead of standalone but when I start it, it gives the following error:
Code:
ProFTPd warning: cannot start neither in standalone nor in inetd/xinetd mode. Check your configuration.
If I select standalone as servertype through the config, it works good.
Previously, I had this same machine on the same OS with 1 IP-address. I installed ProFTPd and it worked well with init.d . Maybe the 2nd IP is causing it? How can I make it work through init.d without having this error?
I installed proftpd on a new CentOS 5 server, yet when FTPing in (I can log in fine), the files and directories do not list and I get a "550 filename: Permission denied" error each time I try to "put" or "get" a file (I can tell that the file is there, though, because if I try to access a non-existent file, I get a "No such file or directory error" instead of the permission denied error).
View 10 Replies View RelatedAccording cu proftpd documentation this should limit upload file size to 5 MBytes to everyone excepting user crystal which is allowed to upload 100 MBytes.
Code:
# Restrict upload to only 3 megabytes
MaxStoreFileSize 5 Mb
MaxStoreFileSize 100 Mb user crystal
My Proftpd also restricts the user crystal to 5 Mb. It seems the second line is not taken into consideration.
I am trying to install proftpd from source with the mod_clamav-0.10. I am using CentOS 5.5. I would love to get proftpd with clamav working. I had it installed previously through yum and uninstalled it before trying to do reinstall it through source.
yum erase proftpd
After upgrading ubuntu server to the latest version (according to apt-get) proftpd stopped working. When I try to execute proftpd I get the following message (when logged in as root or user with root privileges) :
Code:
Line 18 in modules.conf looks like this:
Code:
I've tried removing and re-installing proftpd, but this doesn't help
If I comment line 18 in modules.conf, I just get permission denied on the next LoadModule command...
Can I remove all modules? or is there a way of fixing the permission denied issue?
