Mar 20, 2010

I recently reinstalled my server, a Dell PowerEdge 1650 (well it works...., 'sides for what I want to do with it it's more then strong enough.) got debian on it, and then specifically Lenny. works great exept for one thing: Gadmin-ProFTPd.when I try to start it using SSH (which I always use to administrate my server) I get only this as a error: segmentation error I just noticed, that durning startup it already displays a error, mainly this: starting ftp server: proftp[ 77.535939] warning: 'proftp' uses 32-bit capabilities (legacy support in use)

- warning: unable to determen ip address of 'server01.locals_foxofinfinety_com'

- fatal: error processing configuration file '/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf' failed!afther that is starts atd, cron and apache and further works............

Debian Multimedia :: Skype Giving Segmentation Fault Error On Terminal

Aug 17, 2011

I had Skype debian_2.2.0.35-1_amd64 on my Debian 2.6.32-5 amd64 and it was working without any problem. After re-installing my gnome desktop environment, my skype stopped working. I tried to re-install it. I found out it re-installs without any error but it doesn't launch and gives me "segmentation fault" error on terminal. I purged skype, deleted the .skype folder and installed it again with no luck. when I try to re-install skype via software center it says: "Sorry, 'skype' is not available for this type of computer (amd64)." what should I do to have the skype working on my system again?

Server :: ProFTPd Warning: Can't Start

Feb 1, 2011

I run Debian 5 64-bit machine with 2 IP-addresses. I installed ProFTPd through init.d instead of standalone but when I start it, it gives the following error:

Code:
ProFTPd warning: cannot start neither in standalone nor in inetd/xinetd mode. Check your configuration.
If I select standalone as servertype through the config, it works good.

Previously, I had this same machine on the same OS with 1 IP-address. I installed ProFTPd and it worked well with init.d . Maybe the 2nd IP is causing it? How can I make it work through init.d without having this error?

OpenSUSE Network :: NFS Client Can't Start--segmentation Fault?

Aug 9, 2011

This issue has appeared at least twice in the past few years, for Ver. 10 and 11, but I've not seen any answer other than a suggestion to file a bug report.

The NFS client, on 11.4, returns an unspecified error when started from System Runlevel:
YaST got signal 11 at YCP file Service.ycp:77
/sbin/yast2: line 423: 19958 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS

Is this client not compatible with the wide screen format on my notebook?

overnight break Left both machines running at the end of the day. This morning, Runlevel can stop and restart NFS client with no problem. The remote directory shows up in the client's Dolphin and is the correct size and content. In the medical field they call this spontaneous remission. Hope it works for you too.

Ubuntu Servers :: ProFTPd + MySQL 421 Error - No Log Data

Aug 10, 2010

I already have my laptop as a server using a LAMP server + proftpd and the FTP->MySQL link up. I built myself a new Headless and set up the SSH and VNC on it and all that good jazz. LAMP works and everything. Proftpd+MySQL (using the proftpd-mod-mysql package from repo) doesn't seem to work on this headless box. So I used the tutorial from [URL]... Thinking "I'm using 10.04 - it's close enough". Both came up with the same error. 421 Service not available when I ftp from the localhost. Is their something I'm missing? the Laptop set up (also 10.04) works groovy fine. Also all the log files are blank.

Server :: ProFTPd - Upload Anything Or Create Directory: 550 Permission Denied Error

Jan 7, 2010

I have proftpd @ Ubuntu 9.04 server. It authenticates users via Auth file, e.g. those are "FTP only" users, not real linux users. Each of them has assigned home dir in the same auth file. They also get Chrooted into it, e.g. default dir is ~ in proftpd.conf They can connect and download files successfully, however, they cannot upload anything or create directory: 550 permission denied error.

When I login via ssh and change user to proftpd user, I can create directories in that particular place, so I guess it's not Linux permissions problem? Or is it? /var/log/daemon.log is the place where proftpd stores its logs, but I cannot find anything relevant there

Debian Configuration :: ProFTPd -- Cannot Download From FTP - Can Upload Though

Sep 7, 2011

I rent a dedicated virtual server (ve) from Media Temple. It is one of those servers where they give you the base OS install and then you have to install all of your own applications.

Anyways, setting up the FTP software for the server has been hell. I am using ProFTPd and Webmin 1.510. I am able to log into the FTP and upload files to any of the directories that I have created.

The issue here is that I cannot download anything from my server via FTP. I have tried multiple clients (Filezilla is what I use normally), but they all come back with "Transfer cannot be started".

Debian Configuration :: Testing/Sid - ProFTPD - File Wrong?

Feb 26, 2010

I've been working on the setup of a FTP server on my Debian system for the whole afternoon. But I can't get it straight! Normally I get it working in just a second, but it's been a while I guess.

I installed only proftpd-basic and it's default dependencies. Should be enough right?

My configuration files are as follows:

I created the user zeitgeist, gave it a password, group and a homedir. Group of the user is nogroup and the homedir is correct with the 755 permission. My port 21 for FTP is open I tested it with nmap -p 21 [ip-address].

My Filezilla client tells me that at first he is connecting, then the connection is established, And then the connection is closed by server.

Server :: Cannot Login To FTP (proftpd) With A Single User On Debian Squeeze?

Jul 19, 2011

So I've been trying to get a single user to login to an FTP site I've created using proftpd and I haven't had much luck. So check this out: this only applies to one user, I can "su" to the user account so I know the password is set, and I am even able to SSH into the box as this user. This totally eliminates a bad/incorrect password and the server IS accepting connections on port 21 because I can FTP as other users. I've ruled out the client because I tried locally and using a command promptWinders but still no luck. This is what I'm seeing in the logs when I attempt to connect using an FTP client.

Programming :: Segmentation Fault Error And GDB

Jul 23, 2010

When I compile my C program on SUSE, I receive a segmentation fault error. To my knowledge, this occurs when a program tries to recall memory but is not allowed to. So I'm using GDB for the first time to solve this problem. After a series of commands, I reach this point:

Code:
#0 0x00002b13e1bab127 in getdelim () from /lib64/libc.so.6
#1 0x000000000040167b in main () at dmsp_cusp.c:158

Here's the offending code in dmsp_cusp.c:
Code:
157 printf("enter the input file name:");
158 getline(in_fname);
159 fp3 = fopen(in_fname, "r");
160 if(fp3 == NULL) {
161 printf("can't open input file %s",in_fname);

Debian :: Start Script Via Systemd - Error

Apr 27, 2016

I tried to set up my linux server with a specific script that can control my gameserver (mta). The thing is, I wanted to let this script be forced to start by the systemd, so I created a service called 'mtadef' (btw: same name as the user).

Here is the service script:

Code: Select all[Unit]
Description="MTA: Primary Server"

[Service]
Type=Forking
User=mtadef
ExecStart=/home/mtadef/mtastart.sh
RemainAfterExit=yes

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

And here is my shellscript (mtastart.sh):

Code: Select all#!/bin/sh
if [ $# -ne 1 ]
   then
      screen -S MTA_def /home/mtadef/mta-server64 -screen 0 800x600x16 -ac
      exit 1

[Code] ....

When I try to start the service by the command "systemctl start mtadef" now, I returns me the message:

General :: Internal Compiler Error: Segmentation Fault

Apr 6, 2010

I am getting this message: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate. for every compilation that takes longer (ie: linux kernel, kde sources etc.)

I've tried other OS (at that moment I was on Fedora 12, now on Debian; was a Suse also) and it didn't work. I've tried replacing my hard disk, since it needed an upgrade either ways - that didn't work either. I assumed that it's the RAM fault - tested them with memtest and it says they are fine. Does anyone know what else I can do in order to figure out where the problem is?
