Ubuntu :: Can't Access Windows 7

I'll try and explain in as much detail as I can. I have a HP netbook with Windows 7 on it and I wanted to dual boot it with Ubuntu, so I downloaded Ubuntu 11.04 to a disk, booted up using it, then once I was on I installed it. I think I'm using this menu called grub when my computer turns on, which I use to select which operating system to run. I can select Ubuntu and it works with no problems, but when I select Windows 7 it goes to the loading screen and then gives out an error, stating that there's either been a hardware or software change.

I connected my laptop running with Ubuntu 11 in the LAN but I couldn't access internet.But I could ping to the other computers connected in the LAN. I tried the same thing with windows 7 in the same laptop and I could access internet.

I am dual booting OpenSuse 11.2 and Windows 7 both 64bit on my PC. I've got VMware workstation installed on both. I've got few virtual machines which were all created in Windows VMware and they're all stored on a separate partition. I can access this partition and all other NTFS partition from Suse but with read-only permissions. That means I can't run any of these virtual machines from Suse VMware. Is there any possible way to make all these drives writeable from Suse? I'm really hoping someone would be able to help me. I've got a lot of googling and have even searched this forum but without any luck.

Last week I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my system in dual booting. I had installed succesfully both but unable to see data files from windows OS. Though I have excercised the options in various resources available on internet/blogs. System takes about 03 hrs during installation process. I am also unable to configure Thunderbird.

After several times install & reinstall,i got a stable dual boot vista / ubuntu 10.10.,but i can't access or even see my windows partition from ubuntu,i installed my dual boot with wubu this time,in previous installation when i didn't use wubi , i didn't have such a problem & windows partition with all my files in it (windows files,media ,etc,) was easily accessible from "places" on ubuntu . I already disabled windows firewall & other security options but nothing changed

I have a Windows 7 (Home Premium) computer and another computer with a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.04 (32-Bit) on it. Since I have the computer with Windows 7 and it doesn't come with Remote access due to it not being at least the Professional edition (which is really lame if you ask me!), I won't be able to access my Windows computer from my Ubuntu computer (from what I have gathered from [URL].. So my question is how can I access my Ubuntu computer from my Windows 7 machine? Does this require more then just installing Samba on the linux machine? I do have RealVNC Enterprise edition 4.51 if that will work?

I have a desktop, a cellphone. I do NOT HAVE a disk drive, a USB stick or anything of the sort.
The desktop has two operating systems on a single hard drive: Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7. I need to get internet access in Windows 7.
The cellphone is a Galaxy S Vibrant, and is tethered so that I can connect to the internet through it. In Ubuntu, the tether is automatically supported. I just shove a USB cable between the cellphone and the phone and I've got internet in Linux. But in Windows, the tether needs drivers. I can't connect to my phone in Windows without them.
So, I pretty much have to put the installer in Windows from Linux, so I can run it, have internet in Windows and not get fired tomorrow.
I have $0, so picking up (or borrowing) something I can use to talk between the two computers is not an option.
But in Ubuntu, I do not see my Windows partition. It's not in media and it's not in mnt.
What can I do to get a damn file over to Windows?
Note in bold and italic to show that it's important: NTFS-Config only shows my Ubuntu drive, it seems.

I have installed ubuntu in dual boot in XP
Now i would like to be able to quickly access folders on XP partition, maybe with shortcuts on desktop?
However if i create those shortcuts and restart computer the shortcuts are no longer valid.
Any way around this, or is there a better way to reach XP partition folders without going to root of drive every time?

I have dual boot. Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I don't have a partition. I have formatted the disk to NTFS then installed XP first. After that I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS under Windows.
I have decided to access Windows files from Ubuntu. I have used Gparted to know where my windows is. Then I have found this.

Overview I have a couple of Pc's that I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on, standard installs. No install issues I have a FreeNAS box set up with a windows share for various things pictures, videos, musicThe files are located in a directory Media, i.e., media My Pictures mediaMy Videos mediaMy Music each folder has lots of files and directories, specifically My Music has >2000 files/top level directories I connect to the FreeNAS share with no issue and can browse all the files, EXCEPT....The issueI cannot access the My Music directory. I have both Windows And Ubuntu 11.04 installed. Right now I'm using Ubuntu, but when I wanted to listen to my music I can't seem to find it. It is located on the C-drive in Windows, but I can't find any ways to access that drive. I've also just started using Ubuntu (like 2 hours or so) so I do not know much about it.

I am a new users to Linux and I am using Ubuntu 11.04. In my laptop, I have two logical drive C: and D:. I have installed Windows XP in C drive and Ubuntu in D drive. From Ubuntu, I can mount the C drive and can access the files I stored there when logged in Windows. But from ubuntu, I can't access or see any files I stored in D drive when I logged in Windows. Even I can't mount the drive from Linux.

I am running Linux Ubuntu 10.04 and I currently have this computer and another Windows 7 PC connected together in the same workgroup. When I look at the Network on the Ubuntu File Browser, I can see the windows 7 pc there, but when I try to open it, I get the message Password Required - it wants a username, password and domain (the domain box is filled in with the workgroup name). Whatever set of credentials I try to input, the box just pops up again asking for password. Password protected sharing is disabled on the windows 7 pc and I have even tried disabling Windows firewall to no effect. I am very new to Ubuntu and Linux and am therefore completely stuck - what I really want is to access a shared printer connected to the Windows 7 pc from the Linux machine.

I have Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 10.04 dual booting on one machine.I'd like to access my Windows 7 files from within Ubuntu (and preferably vice-versa). I've not been able to find any tutorials online to tell me how this is done. There seems to be many tools for Win to Ext2/Ext3 but nothing really providing the solution I need.

When i first installed ubuntu on my laptop i could access the shared folders i had put on the network with windows through ubuntu, read and write files, copy and paste them etc. I tried recently going to Places>Network and i get this error: failed to retrieve share list from server
It never used to do this, in fact when i went to places the network was not called "network", it was my own title. i can connect to the server with the ip address, but that only lets me take files from the windows network, and not the other way around. I really have two issues
1. cannot place files on the network from my ubuntu laptop
2. cannot connect to shared folder network from places like i could before

I installed samba (in Ubuntu 9.10) and I can access shared files in Ubuntu from Windows 7 but when I try to access W7 files from ubuntu: Places>Network, it prompts me Username,Domain, Password. I tried Username = W7 usernameDomain=my workgroup (MSHOME)Password=W7 login passwordbut it prompts me same thing again...checked some other related threads but couldn't get any luck.

I seem to be having an issue with my system. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 yesterday and I have to reboot into Windows 7 to do some coursework for school. I just tried to do this, and when I select Windows 7 from the list at the Grub2 splash screen, it goes blank for a bit and jumps me back to the Grub menu. I'm not sure if I did something wrong, like somehow install Grub to /dev/sda1 during the upgrade, but if that's the case, how do I remove it? I tried to do a sudo update-grub but that did not work. It found Windows 7, but on the reboot it still went back to the menu. Is this a Grub or Windows issue?

Just curious your recommendations for remotely access windows xp computers from ubuntu. The current setup i use is tightvnc listener on ubuntu and ultra vnc single click on the windows xp computers.
I know rdesktop is widely used but i would like to continue their session so they can show me what is going wrong.

I'm dual booting XP and UNR and I want to give users access to the windows file-systems but not to admin of Ubuntu.
At present I have given them a Desktop user account but that doesn't allow access to the XP file-systems. The only way I can see to enable that is to go to Advanced User Setting and allow them to Administer the System - which I don't want to do.

I used to be able to mount windows hds just fine in any of the linux distros that I've used .. It always show up in "Computer" and I have an option to mount it but recently I've installed xubuntu and I can't seem to find "Computer" anywhere nor can I find my windows hardrives.. how I could mount my windows hardrive on xubuntu?? Also..I can't seem to find "Computer" under places :/..whats up with that

It says: "You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

I have Win7 installed on the first HD in the system (500GB) and as such /dev/sda in Linux
I have two 1TB HD's which are in a RAID 1 configuration, built using Windows Logical Disk Manager, in Linux they are /dev/sdb & /dev/sdc
I have my fourth drive (again 500GB) with Crunchbang installed at /dev/sdd

Just installed Ubuntu the newest release on my laptop . Im dual booting on my laptop. Vista or Ubuntu. I gotta say I love Ubuntu more than vista. I would much rather use ubuntu. My question is I cannot for the life of me connect to my main PC running Windows 7. Reason I want to do this is my PC running windows 7 has all my music which is rather large over 100gigs worth. Looks like it recognizes my PC but I cannot access anything.
Now In windows 7 I have disabled password and made it pretty easy to access files on there. When I boot into vista on my laptop no problem at all getting onto the network to access my main Windows 7 Pc. Any Ideas why Ubuntu can't get into my Windows 7 pc Through my network. Would love to do this that way I don't ever have to boot into vista. Ubuntu is great otherwise.
