Ubuntu :: Can't Open Keygen In Windows 7
Dec 23, 2010
So I just got a new Dell w/ Win7 and it's controlling ME rather than letting me control it...
I can't open a keygen or even drag it to the desktop!!! I tried to uninstall McAfee only to find I'm not authorized to!!! From tasks OR processes - on MY computer!!!
So do I need to get rid of McAfee or is this windows' doing?

My /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail went from 2200 to <200 after ssh-keygen. The generated key pairs also doesn't work (ie I'm asked to provide a password). Anyone knows what is the minimum before and after entropy number I should see in order to have the keys generated properly?

I was wondering whether increasing the strength of a key by increasing the number of bits in the key to 2048 makes any sense if I want to leave the passphrase blank anyway? I'm setting up passwordless ssh logins on my LAN as I'm a bit tired of constantly being asked for a password.

I enabled the windows preview effect from CCSM but it seems to be working only for the open windows. For the windows that I have minimized, no preview is shown when I hover over them in taskbar
Is this an expected behaviour ?? Can I change it to be shown for all sorts of windows irrespective of open/closed states ??

I'm running 10.10 but also had this problem on 10.4. Every time I start a new window (e.g. from the Applications menu), it opens below all of the existing windows. Obviously I would like it to open on top, and be in focus.I have Visual Effects set to NONE (so that VNC works correctly). If I set Visual Effects to NORMAL or EXTRA, I do not have this problem (that is, the window opens on top).I'm using an up-to-date, stock, 32-bit, Ubuntu 10.10 system with Gnome windows manager. I have an NVIDIA card, with the latest driver from NVIDIA.

I am trying to run Ubuntu 10.04 amd64. And Ubuntu typically is stable for me dispute all windows installs get BSOD. Graphic card is nvidia geforce 8400. more details will be included in system section
Index:CauseSymptomsSystem
Cause: 3-5 days ago I updated my computer that had not been updated for 2-4 days using synaptic. I had no error warnings so I decided to reboot (I might have used alt ctrl delete to restart). After restart I received the standard prompt that occurs when the graphics driver is having problems. The screen with the options: run low graphics mode, reconfig graphics, ..., restartx.
I tried low graphics. Eventually I boot to netroot. In net root I tried messing with nvidia driver packages not modalias. and messing with xorg.conf using nvidia-xconfig. Also attempted to change drivers using update-alternatives --config gl_conf those are where I messed and possibly exacerbated the problem (but probably not by much)(but I have had nvidia-current driver problems before due to updates that make me decide to reinstall).
Symptoms: The command startx returns no errors that I can tell from the log but startx stops. gdm (in netroot) returns cant find user list (cant readily recall the exact name but sounds like the password and names of users). Then some graphics errors. Most gtk and X programs/commands return the error x window cant open. and gtkbox (the gtk test program I will correct later) returned an error at ".run priority 0". Not when the same command was called with no priority explicity stated.
System: Hardware: user built. Amd Athlon II x3 435. ECS IC780M-A2 (V1.0A) EliteGroup motherboard. 2Gb ram. 500gb linux HDD. 40GB xp 32bit. grub2 boot. Software: ubuntu 10.04 amd64. Sources partners and some APPs.
I suspect the initial cause (before I monkeyed around) was that one of the lib packages that was updated in that session made my computer unstable. Also to note I removed a lot of lib packages in netroot thru the autoremove command. If not one of the lib packaged one of the others that were updated (I wish I could find out what was changed so I could at least undo it manually (in theory).

I'd like open windows to reappear from the taskbar faster. There's always a delay of at least 1 or 2 seconds between clicking on a minimized window and it being restored.
At first I assumed this was a limitation of ubuntu, but I've realised since the delay is the same across the board, regardless of the application, which makes me think it's a deliberate setting.
Am I right - and if so where can I alter it?

I backed up a windows xp folder which was My documents to an ext4 formated external hard drive from an ubuntu 10.04 live cd. After installing Ubuntu 10.04 on that same computer, I tried to open the my document folder then i was denied access to it because i was the wrong user. In windows xp, the My documents folder was not password protected. Is there any way to hack that folder, I have a bunch of pictures in there that I want to retrieve. On the folder icon, it shows and x and a lock. I think it means that is either encrypted or password protected.

I'm trying to find a way to make my Windows key the shortcut to opening my start panel in Lubuntu. I've found easy instructions for Ubuntu, but Lubuntu doesn't have the keyboard shortcuts utility that Ubuntu has (at least I can't find it).
I found some instructions for editing a config file but I can't find the command for opening the panel, and I've seen conflicting information about how the Windows key is written (some say W, some say Super_L), so I hesitate to start playing around with that file when I'm only guessing.

I've been trying to fix this problem for over a month, on irc chats and searching google for forum threads, all leading me in different directions all bringing me nowhere. In trying to connect from my Windows machine I get the following error:Quote: Windows cannot access \ubuntu
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve the network problems, click Diagnose. Well, clicking "Diagnose" is a huge waste of time.I've paste binned by /etc/samba/smb.conf file and it can be found below -[URL]... Also, when I am on the Ubuntu machine attempting to browse the machines on the network and go to Places >> Network >> Windows Network I get the following error: Quote: Unable to mount location Failed to retreive share list from server

I instaled Ubuntu a recently and have been trying it out (my first attemt to use Linux OS) So I was playing around with Desktop panels and I'll say I'm very impressed with all the crap you can put on it. So of course I deleted the default ones and created my own one. The problem is this: I found all the things i need using 'Add to panel' but my panel won't show the open applications on it . Can some1 tell me how can i add this to my own panel (or at least bring back the default panels)?

I downloaded and used usb to try ubuntu.I found I then cannot open Windows XP now.I read that you can change the start order in the grub file but when I typed in the terminal sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst the grub file only has grubenv in it 1kb? Any thoughts on why this is so?
