Ubuntu :: Can't Burn Cds Through Rhythmbox
Apr 25, 2010
I'm having sort of an odd problem trying to burn Cds through Rhythmbox on 9.10. Sometimes it has no problem burning the disc, but lately after I hit "burn" nothing happens and my fan starts running really loud. I think the disc just sits there spinning.
I can still burn discs using brasero, but it seems to be taking a lot longer than it should be. I'm hoping someone might have a quick fix for burning playlists straight from rhythmbox.

I installed Squeeze without a DE. Then I installed gdm and rhythmbox, but rhythmbox won't even react to the Create CD button. I have the brasero-cdrkit and cdrdao packages installed for brasero to burn audio CD's which works perfectly. I have the rhythmbox-plugin-cdrecorder package installed too, but no go. The CD spins up, but no dialogs at all from rhythmbox

A severe problem with Rhythmbox. You cannot burn playlist. I've looked at bug reports and they just give you the run around. Nothing in the forums except to go to something else. That is no solution to the problem. I can't believe this problem is being ignored. Nothing comes up on search.how these applications got so screwed up from one version to the other and what the cure is?

we were watching Clint Eastwood in Pink Cadillac on DVD. Earlier, I had been checking out the streaming internet radio on my roommates Mint laptop using Rhythmbox, and found it to be pretty cool. Usually, if I stream any music, it's just from the CBC (like the U.S.'s NPR), so I just stream it directly from them, but all the stations on rhythmbox (there's a whack of them) got me interested. At the start of Pink Cadillac, I proposed myself a challenge: Could I manage to get rhythmbox (a GNOME application) to work on my Slack64 -current box, before the movie ended? There's probably (maybe?) a similar app that installs and works more natively on Slack, but that's not the point; I wanted to try installing rhythmbox in < 2 hrs. Well, I got it installed finally, *just* at the end of the movie credits, but it won't play! And sometimes it segfaults. So, I wonder if anyone has any tips about what I might be missing or whatever.
Here's what I typically get when I first start it up (though it starts & runs OK):
Code:
sasha@reactor: rhythmbox
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".
(rhythmbox:15745): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed
(rhythmbox:15745): Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unable to grab media player keys: Could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name
[code].....
Seems even on systems with some sort of 'natural' support for installing this thing, a lot of people are getting the same or very similar errors, but I haven't found a solution (obviously - I wouldn't be posting otherwise ) but people, myself included, have discovered that there doesn't seem to be a 100% accurate list of *required* dependencies for rhythmbox; it needs stuff that it doesn't tell you it needs.
EDIT: Disclaimer (just to cut the 'dependency-hell' arguments off at the pass, so to speak): This is just a fun experiment for me. I don't suggest Slackware newbies start trying to install <xyz Gnome application> into their Slackware boxes unless you want to spend HOURS fixing stuff like this, and you want to have fun doing it, and have it maybe bork your box up. And if you *do* decide to try it anyways, don't blame Slackware for giving you dependency hell. Gnome doesn't come with Slackware (here's the ChangeLog). I like Slackware exactly the way it is - it comes with more than enough apps to satisfy most people, all nicely working out of the box, so installing stuff like this is not really necessary - but I'm choosing to do this one anyway, and am not deterred by this "mess" of stuff. If this dependency stuff isn't your 'cup of tea', an 'automatically-dependency-resolving' distro might be better for you; I prefer to mess my machine up on my own, rather than let my package manager do it for me.

Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor. Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 onto my Compaq Evo N1020v (quite old laptop) The installation seemed to install without any problems and all updates have been done in update manager. Ubuntu is the only operating system on the laptop. My problem is, neither of the file burning apps Brasero Disk Burner or Send to CD/DVD will detect my blank DVD's. Both apps detect the blank CD's without a problem. File browser is able to read data on this DVD type in fact I installed Ubuntu from a DVD of this type.

I've tried numerous times and different ISO's but I cannot seem to burn ISO's to CD+RW. I'm using Braseo CD Burner. All it does is make the disc have 0 bytes remaining and it acts as if it is a CD-R/CD+R

I have Ubuntu 11.04 with all updates installed.
I can not burn any cd / dvd with Braseo, GnomeBaker, nautilus burner, etc.
The discs are "apparently" normally recorded
But then Ubuntu or DVDPlayer does not recognize the DVD or CD I burned.
Conclusion: Waste DVDs because they are unusable and I can not record.
I have a Gateway nv-53 laptop.
P.D: In older Ubuntu editions, Fedora 15, etc, I can burn disc perfectly.

I can't burn the Ubuntu IMG file.
I'm using an AUDIO CD-R 80 min and I also tried with a DVD+R 4.7GB 120 min 1-16x speed but this error always pops up:
I'm using Windows XP on Bootcamp, maybe that's a reason?

I've burned iso CDs for 8.10, 9.04, 9.10, Linux Mint 5, 6, 7 with Brasero. In addition I've burned music CDs with Brasero. It has worked well for me. But now I can't burn a 10.04 iso CD. I REALLY want to get a CD burned so I can install Lucid Lynx.
don't suggest I try kb3, Gnomebaker, or some other burner.. Brasero which always worked before.

The applications normally installed, like Brasero or GnomeBaker, seem to know just to burn audio CDs. I found in Package Manager three other applications with promising names (mp3burn, mp3roaster, mp3cd), but they also burn audio CDs... from mp3 files. What I want is to burn mp3 CDs playable on stereo systems, using mp3 files, or even converting from audio CDs or files (like for instance with Nero in Windows). Is there any solution?

I have lost my Karmic CD and have already used it to create a persistent LiveUSB. Now I think I might want to install / dual boot my new laptop with Ubuntu, I really love it and it just works. But I have one Blank CD left, I know Karmic works perfectly. Should I DL 10.04 and try that version? Also I am going to be using this guide to install
http://thpc.info/dual/vista/dualboot..._on_vista.html Yes, I do want to use EasyBCD instead of GRUB, its to risky for me and I am shivering just thinking about it.

I feel really stupid here. I've looked around but no fix I can figure out. I downloaded a i386 iso of Ubuntu to install on my daughter's laptop and I can't get the CD/DVD Creator on my main computer to burn it to either CD or DVD.
I *know* I've done it before but maybe that was on Jaunty not Lucid which I have on my computer now.
I can load the iso file into CD/DVD Creator and when I get to the "Write to disc" option it says: "Write disc to: FILE IMAGE" and there is no option to write it to my CD/DVD drive. It's as if the DVD writer is not mounted.
EDIT: The md5 checksum is fine, by the way..

Running Ubuntu 10.04 now, and still I can't burn a disc without errors. I had a different computer the last time I was able to burn a CD in Ubuntu. ECS K5S5A Motherboard died, and I acquired another computer, running another brand, similar AMD Athlon motherboard. 1.0 GHz processor instead of the 1.05 GHz Athlon processor , but the is laid out very similar.
Installed 9.04 from a disc burnt on the old computer. Trouble with errors in Brasero, and I upgraded through the Update Manager to 9.10 then to 10.04. I replaced the burner with the one out of my dead computer, that burnt successfully before it died, and I still have errors.
My Log:

I need to know how to blank and burn a CDRW from the CLI.

I downloaded the LiveCD of Lucid to install it on my old notebook (which currently has *shudder* Winblows XP). The downloaded ISO passed the md5 check, but I can't burn it.I am using Lucid on a netbook right now, and it has no internal CD burner. So, I'm using an external CD/DVD burner via a USB connection.Ubuntu recognizes that there is a blank disc in there, but there is no "Burn to disc..." option in the right-click menu

I think i'd rather just convert it to an .iso in my windows, then burn it on ubuntu with a .iso burner. can you recommend a good iso burner on ubuntu, that can be installed straight from the software center.

Trying to burn a folder full of stuff to back it all up. I've tried both Brasero and K3b, and neither will do the trick, even though they both successfully simulating the burn. Not getting much feedback on why the burn won't work - K3b says OPC failed, probably doesn't like the medium. I've tried to do the job with plenty of CDs now, so I don't think it's down to dodgy disks.
