I am currently running Ubuntu 10.10 x32 on an Acer AMD Athlon x2 64. I can be using the computer, or it can be idle, when I hear the fan kick on (very loud) and the system monitors show the CPU at 100%. The problem started after an update in 10.04; updated to 10.10 and the problem has continued.
For about a month now, my mouse has been jumping to one of the corners of my screen every few minutes (normally the top-left). I also had a problem where the right mouse button would double-click 90% of the time.
I just replaced my mouse a few minutes ago, and now the right button works fine, but the cursor keeps jumping to the corner of the screen.
I'm fairly certain this is not a hardware problem, since switching mice did not fix the problem.
whenever I hold a key inside or outside of an application my mouse doesn't respond for several seconds then jumps. (this is a big problem in First Persion Shooters) I assume its a problem with xorg.conf
I installed 10.04 on new computer for office, got everything working great at home with old 15" monitor, took to office hooked up to Multisync 97f monitor, and not recognized 640x480 is best. I Have onboard Geforce 6150se/ 430 and have the newest driver installed from Nvidia 256.44. I tried to install everything that said multisync in synaptics but screen jumps around when trying to click on anything because it don't fit right.
I am using Intel Fortran compiler and experience a weird behavior
i have a subroutine writing data to netcdf called from the main program and causing a library error. when debugging i saw that the program first jumps to line 411 of the source code and only then to the first executable line of the code at 96 (the source is attached). when looking at the assembler code i see the same thing.
the netcdf error sais the unlimited dimension is defined more then once and that is waht is done in line 411 compiler flags were: -g -C -traceback -check all -debug all -w95 -save -cpp -w90 -w95 -w -vec-report1 -r8 -i4 -heap-arrays
I decided to install Ubuntu on my desktop after the setup went well on my laptop and I liked the OS. I already had Windows 7 and Backtrack 9 installed on my HDD, so when I was in setup I took the 200gb partition for BT9 and formatted SDA5 to ext3 with "/" as the root. Then checked "format" and selected SDA5 from dropdown list and continued to install.Everything went smooth in the installation and I was prompted to reboot which I did assuming I would soon see a GRUB screen. Instead I got an error saying
and then the computer just freezes. I've tried to boot from CD but I just get "CD-ROM Boot Priority ...Boot Ready" and then after about 30 seconds it tries to boot from the HDD and I get the same error.I've read that I need to configure GRUB somehow but I have no idea how to do that and I can't boot anything from a CD because it just waits and then jumps to the HDD. I guess what i'm asking is if there is a way to configure GRUB from the BIOS menu or make it possible to be able to boot from a CD.
after finally being able to find the right configuration file for the Synaptics driver (I still think the change from HAL to udev was too silent...), I have gained the ability to configure my TouchPad. One Issue has been bothering me for a long time now: When moving the cursor from left to the right, at a certain position the mouse cursor jumps to the right edge of the screen. Here is the output of synclient while moving the finger constantly from left to right to illustrate the issue:
[code]....
Note that the value of RightEdge was changed by me in order to see if it has something to do with the issue. It has not, the cursor jumps at the same position, regardless of this value.
I'm after fresh install of Fedora x64, did all updates. I have wireless pci card TP-LINK TL-wn510G (Atheros chipset) which was detected correctly.
Everything is working smoothly until I start to download from internet in firefox (or in konqueror - no difference). On increased network activity my mouse cursor starts to lag/jump when moving - it's almost impossible to do anything using mouse when there is file download. On minor traffic, like browsing webpages, I don't notice such behaviour. I checked if its rather because of hdd activity not the network, but no - when copying big file on hdd everything works fine. I'm also experiencing huge ssh lag/jitter despite the ping is low. I fired top when downloading, but there is no process eating cpu in suspicious way. I have a regular usb mouse. On the same computer I have installed Win 7 and OpenSuse and nothing like this happens on that systems.
I think there might be a some kind of conflict between wifi card and usb mouse (they share resources) but don't know how to check/repair. Could you please tell me how should I proceed to check what is going on. I haven't modified any hw settings, the installation went w/o any errors.
Just installed F15 using preupgrade (from F14) and now, every time I reboot, time jumps backwards 4 hours. If I reboot twice in a row without correcting the time, time will be off by 8 hours. Time zone is set correctly (Eastern Time). "Synchronize date and time over the network" is unchecked.
Since the difference between GMT and Eastern time is 4 hours, there appears to be some confusion over that but I can't find anything in the "Date & Time" app relative to that to try to play with to see if I can correct this. II do remember a similar issue many releases ago but I can't remember how it was dealt with.
I just installed the brand new 11.4 on an old Dell Optiplex GX280 box. After the proxy been set, I tried to open firefox but then, all jumps back to the log in screen. The same happens when I try to open pgadmin. After logging in, all the open windows are gone.
I'm running a Fujitsu Lifebook T5010 with Linux Fedora Release 12 and the mouse is way too sensitive, jumps all over the screen when I touch it, especially if 2 fingers touch at the same time. I've tried all the system settings and nothing helps. It works fine with Windows XP Professional.
I run a mostly untouched CentOS server, nothing is installed except a server app to store data. The server has been crashing lately - after a year of no problems, so I looked into the logs of it and noticed weird discrepancies in the time around the time it crashs. So I started "watch date >> datefile" and this is what happens:
Code: Sun Oct 17 09:52:45 CEST 2010 Sun Oct 17 09:52:47 CEST 2010 Sun Oct 17 09:52:49 CEST 2010
When I shut down the machine everything is as it should be. Time set from the net, hwclock synced. When I boot again, time is set several hours into the future. This is an additive process, when I don't set the correct time it drifts with every boot even days into the future (until boot is denied, because files are too far in the future). I tried to get rid of that behaviour by doing:
Code: sntp -P no -r pool.ntp.org hwclock --systohc I renamed /etc/adjtime which looked like this:
22292.201093 1289670517 0.000000 1289670480 UTC
Now it looks as follows: 0.000000 1289733620 0.000000 1289733620 UTC
To no avail. What could cause that and how can I correct it?
I'm having a problem with the time on one of my servers jumping forward into the future. We run serveral CentOS 5.4 servers running Xen, some up to date and some a little older. The one in question is running 2.6.18-164.el5xen, with xen-libs-3.0.3-94.el5_4.2 and xen-3.0.3-94.el5_4.2. On this server are several Xen virtual machines, also running CentOS 5.4 with kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen. One in particular has problems with the clock keeping proper time.
We use NTP (ntpd) to sync time to a central server in the company. Our NTP set-up works fine, and we have problems on only a couple of servers out of many. The problem I see is that one one particular Xen virtual machine, the clock will suddenly jump forward into the future, usually by several minutes but once by more than an hour. This has obvious implications for software running on the machine. Software such as Oracle grid control agent will restart itself under the (incorrect) assumption that it has been hung for several minutes with no activity. Oracle database will cope gracefully, but applications that refer to the clock will be confused.
We detect these time jumps because we have Nagios checking the clock on each host against the centralised time server (Nagios's check_ntp plugin). Nagios will suddenly report a clock offset that is miles into the future. Following the time jump, ntpd on the host in question will re-sync the time. Ntpd keeps the time steady, ticking just a few milliseconds per second until real time catches up with the server. i.e. Nagios will report the time as being 10 minutes ahead, then a minute later the host will be 9 minutes ahead, and then a further minute later the host will be 8 minutes ahead of real time. The clock on the host stays running very slow until it eventually is correct.
I have a dual-screen set-up with Ubuntu 10.10. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 video card. I use my lower-resolution laptop screen on the left and a larger monitor on the right. The monitor is also physically higher than the monitor. See attachment for a screenshot.I have correctly set up my displays so that if the mouse is in the middle of the screen it can move from one screen to the other without jumping. The jumping happens when moving off of one screen in an area where the other screen is not directly next to it (some people call this 'the void').
Example: (See the attachment for a visual example of this.) My mouse is in the external monitor (right monitor). As I move the mouse to the top-left of the monitor (position 1), I by mistake go a little too far and instead of hitting the Ubuntu applications menu, I ended up at the top-right of the laptop monitor (left monitor; position 2). I quickly realize my mistake and move the mouse back to the right monitor, but now the mouse is at the middle-left position (position 3).This same error occurs by moving the mouse on the laptop monitor (left monitor) passed the bottom-right position. This is a big problem when scrolling vertical scroll bars on the laptop monitor (left monitor).I am looking for a fix that if the mouse is at position 1 in the attachment and I move the mouse left, it stays at position 1 and does not go to position 2.
I have 9.04 and I recently "got" a 13.2GB 1080p HD movie. When I try to play it, it's choppy and mosaic like. The audio plays fine, but the video jumps and I can't get a clean picture except for maybe 15% of the time. I have to hold down the spacebar so it plays and pauses very quickly for the video to even proceed. I've updates VLC and Movie Player and I've downloaded many codecs and I can't seem to fix it.EDIT: I can play it in Movie Player without the pixel/mosaic-like effect, but it too is extremely choppy.
I have a fedora 11 machine set up in a class room. Every time I plug the Smart Board in, the mouse jumps to the top left corner and every time I move the mouse it jumps back there again. As soon as I unplug the Smart Board the mouse goes back to normal.I have used the exact same Smart Board with a Fedora 10 machine without any problems.ideas on what could be causing this problem and how I could fix it
After upgrade to Slackware 13.0 (then 13.1, then -current) I still have problems using the secondary video output on my old and trusted Toshiba Satellite (Intel chipset 852GM/855GM). This used to work with Slackware 12.x! The problem manifests itself by jumpiness on the secondary port. The jumps appear with any video update (eg. window focusing, but also with the updates from the Clock or the CPU graph).
This is very annoying, particularly because I use this machine to teach. In only one combination (with a NEC NP-100 projector) I can solve the problem by reprogramming the Framerate to 70 or 75 Hz. After reading many mails and references on the 'net, testing a lot of the solutions to no avail, I'm more confused than ever. And no visible improvement either. Here are a couple of the tests I did:
1) I added i915.modeset=1 to LILO. This helped in the sense that now, in text mode, the 2nd video output remains working, which is slightly useful. But no improvement after startx.
2) Xorg.0.log says:
(II) intel: Driver for Intel.....
then, continues with:
(II) VESA: driver for VESA chipsets: vesa
Why are both drivers signalled here? (solved this by generating a new config with Xorg -configure, but no difference)
3) The intel driver says (in Xorg.log): compiled for 1.7.6, while X -version says 1.7.7 (is this significant?)
4) After this, the line
(EE) intel(1): No kernel modesetting driver detected appears in the Xorg log. This wasn't there when no xorg.conf was present.
5) On the other hand, without an xorg.conf, there was a line complaining about a missing 'fbdev', this seems solved afterwards.
6) Just in case, tried software cursor on/off.
7) Maybe unrelated: After enabling modesetting (which should have been enabled by default),LCD brightness resumes correctly after 'sleep'(before, it would switch to low brightness every time).
slackware and am infact running Vector Linux which is slackware based. I used to use fedora on my old laptop got a new on and tried vector. The mouse on the new one doesn't seem to want to work properly, it jumps alot and usually ends up at the end of the screen unable to move, however does manage to click almost every icon on the screen and change desktops.A USB mouse works fine its just the touchpad. It's a Zoostorm Freedom and I can't even find the windows drivers for it let alone what i need for this. I tried editing the xorg.conf to stop the tab button, which doesn't do anything, installed the latest synaptics and still nothing, tried using what someone else uses and still nothing, I cant even find out what kind of mouse it is!?
I just got a dell studio 1557 with core i7 processor. I have heard they run warm and suspect this one is no exception but am having a hard time monitoring the temps. When doing acpi -V i can see 2 thermal zones (0,1) with the first being 63C and the second always staying 26.8C. When I am doing a lot of processing the first thermal zone jumps up quickly. First, should that be the processor temp? Secondly, any way to get more accurate readings with lm-sensors(sensors-detect can find no monitoring items).
Im running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.
Biggest one that make game unplayable is mouse. Mouse isn't moving smooth it jumps around. I cannot shoot anything. So i asked for help, and everybody just say install windows. And where is fun in that. If people when ever run into problem with some software on linux just install windows. Linux would never go forward. I m not some great gamer, but i would like to be able to play this game. Probably somebody run into same problem. I sow that people talk about something like dis on WOW and wine but simptoms doesn't seem same to me.
Since of today it seems my pc freezes randomly, these are the messages that got logged just before it froze: (i tried disconnecting the usb-mouse to get input again, it registered that, but didn't help)
I've been using Ubuntu on my desktop for a while and it worked like a charm. Three months ago, I decided to put a new cpu fan because the old one was gathering dust and I wanted to have lower cpu temps. I decided to buy an Scythe Kabuto, nd installed it with no problems. Windows XP works perfect, but the problems come when I try to start Ubuntu, both from a Live CD or from the HD. Ubuntu starts normally, but in a short period of time (2~15 minutes) the PC randomly shuts down. I've seen some errors when I restart and try to start Ubuntu again mentioning high CPU tempetatures. The fact is that the CPU temperature never reaches more than 65, so my guess is that there is some problems with the ACPI and temp reading.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS , and I liked it a lot, however I'm having a little trouble. My PC freezes randomly for about 5-10 minutes and after that everything works fine again, then it freezes one more time and so on... I've been doing a little research and found nothing useful. I've got an Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.2Ghz Processor and an Intel DGCC101 Motherboard with an Ati Xpress X200 chipset.
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my older computer. Before the installation I used Windows Vista and Windows 7 and I decided to do a clean installation. When I ran Ubuntu from DVD it was perfectly healthy and no problems appeared. After the installation there became random freezes. The system freezes but mouse is still moving and can't do anything else than reboot.
From the other topics I read that it might be a problem with GPU drivers and I heard about this Envy program which might be able to install some drivers but don't know how to install that.
The computer is pretty old:
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+ ASUS M2R-FVM (includes integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1150) 1 GB of RAM 320GB Hard drive
And I couldn't find any Linux drivers for the graphic card from AMD's internet page.
I have downloaded the ver10.04. I am running it on my laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce GO 7600 128MB graphics card. I am using the NVIDIA driver on the system. The screen flickers randomly after say every 1 min. By flickering I mean it just refreshes and goes blank for say 1ms during the refresh. It happens even more if I turn on CompViz option.
When running ubuntu 9.1 on a toshiba a105 s4384 it randomly shuts down without warning. At the time of each i am running one or more of the following: Firefox(newest), Monodevelop(2.2), and pidgn for linux.
