View 3 RepliesIt seems strange to me that there are so few newsreader programs for Linux that are good for posting binaries, if they do it at all. For a community with such an ethos of sharing, there sure are a lot of "grab"-only newsreaders!
I have used newspost a lot in the past, but I encounter fatal errors when connecting through stunnel, as I now tend to do, and development seems to be dead with that program. Can anyone recommend any other program - console, X, whatever - that will post multipart binary files?
What is the best news reader for ubuntu? I've used newsleecher for windows needs to support ssl and would be great if it had an autopar?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader, a slim free PDF Reader with browser plugin, for example for Iceweasel.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have openSUSE 11.2, 64 bits. I use Evince from the very beginning. Since a few weeks, when I want to open a .pdf file, Acrobat Reader appears and reads my file. It seems to have become the default reader now. However, I never wanted to change from Evince :this simple program is well enough for me. I tried various ways, but I can't define Evince as my default .pdf reader. How can I make Evince to become my default reader again please ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop with a broken lid, it is beyond repair so I want to make something out of it. I have unscrewed some screws and I have managed to swivel the screen around, so it looks like a tablet (screen over keyboard - not glued - yet!)I want to change this laptop thing into a News/Calendar/Weather station, that turns on automatically (I can set this in the BIOS) and start running. As I just mentioned, I want it to show News, My Calendar from Google Calendar, Weather and maybe my email. Heres a mock up of what I am thinking of -
Do you guys know any programs that would allow me to create this? The computer is running Windows XP and can be changed to Ubuntu if needed. Windows 7 is a no no (wireless driver is not compatible).
[URL].. is a TV player client, allowing connection to several international news streams(video/audio) from around the world. it is available for Linux, Mac as well as pervasive game systems. ran ok in 10.3 but seg faults in 11.3..after manually tinkering with its audio setup in ~/.openalrc it runs good here until the seg fault...sometime it runs five minutes, sometimes 25 minutes or more...i have been unable to detect the triggering event..started by executing 'livestation' in an open terminal always results(eventually) in "Segmentation fault" and nothing else as the client disappears..anyone else seen this?or, running with no problems?

I was reading the latest openSUSE news #140 under the kernel information and I found something I felt anyone interested in the future of Graphics Support in the kernel should read. It was very interesting for me to read and so maybe the same for you.

I want to have an inn server running on my own server, both to relay my prefered newsgroups and to manage my own newsgroups.
I installed inn with YaST, but I'm lost in the inn documentation. I'm pretty sure openSUSE defaults solve most problems but can't find where I have to setup my own config
For some reason Fox News Video, does not work in FC12, but CNN BBC video are all fine and plays. Flash is installed.e.g. URL... results in just a black screen with a fox logo and no video.

I am running Ubuntu 64-bit and I downloaded a 32-bit binary. I tried to run it in the shell using ./file but zsh said that it did not exist. However it shows up in nautilus and ls. Is this supposed to happen?

I am new to Linux. Thanks in advance for correcting my misunderstanding and answering.
I would like to modify the gdm for testing purpose. To get started, I first get the source code of gdm (using apt-get source, or download the latest version from official gdm website) and compile it without any modification. Then I replaced one of the binary file of gdm. However, it resulted in "Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode" error.
My questions are:
1. why simply replacing the binary did not work?
2. I think it is possible that the way I configure/compile the program wrongly. So, is there a way to know how those programs are compiled in the distribution?
I have no real LINUX system experience and therefore the company has tasked me to get a VMware Appliance running in which they can build their product.
The product runs on Red Hat 7.2. I have attempted many times to get Red Hat 7.2 installed on VMware player. It always fails when I get to Xwindows. I need Xwindows as the company is going to use NetBeans 6.9 for development.
I downloaded an Ubuntu 10.04 Appliance, which runs fine.
The idea is to build the product on the Ubuntu and run it on the Red Hat target.
All systems are x86 platforms.

I read in some website and thought of giving a shot at the pae enabled kernel as i was having 6GB of RAM available in my system. I couldn't use 64bit system because i have a lot of applications that are not available in 64bit. I use a few customised software (From my office corporate) they are 32bit too.
Here is what i did..
sudo install linux-generic-pae
It installed a few headers and packages additionally required.
and i did a reboot.

An alternate solution to use all the 6GB is also welcome... using the current pae enabled kernel. do i need to install any additiona drivers..While i try to load Xwindows.. I get the following error.A long error report is generated and at the end "No Xwindows system installed.."
I just got F14 installed on my pendrive with persistent data and I want to be able to play DVD's, .mp3, .avi etc. So of course I try to download vlc, but I have no internet connection on F14 and can't find any simple, non-RPMfusion way to download the binaries (I had an awful experience with the source a while ago). Does anyone know where I can get them?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install a minimalistic centos 5.6 VM.I have pulled the necessary RPMs from the centos website, using the following command:
yumdownloader --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=CentOS-5.6-x86_64
--destdir=/tmp/transitRPMs/ --installroot=/tmp/transitRPMs/ --resolve kernel
vim-minimal wget yum dhclient grub rootfiles openssh-clients openssh-server sysklogd passwd star attr[code].....
I do not see any 32 bit packages in the /tmp/transitRPMS directory, which good, and that is is what I expected / want.I have also downloaded the repodata and images directory from one of the CENTOS mirros, from the 5.6 directory.I am using the netinstall CD to kickstart the VM and using my local HTTP repository , which I created using the RPMs pulled from the yumuploader command. When I try to install the VM, after the disks are formatted, the installer starts asking for missing i386 or i686 packages. This is happening in both interactive installs, where I select absolutely no package; and also in the kickstart installs, where I have specified @core for the packages. I am unable to understand this behaviour. It was not so in CENTOS 5.5 x86_64 bit. I do not want to install 32 bit packages on my 64 bit machine.
