Ubuntu Installation :: Edit ISO Image Before Burning To CD/DVD?

Jan 6, 2011

I plan to make multi boot linux DVD, with help of SarduCD software, so, I have one question. configured Linux ISO image is not as I would like, I would like to change appearance and to add some softwares, in that way I will not have to change and install it every time I use live DVD in the future. I have now already installed 4 linux in one DVD but evey time I use it, I must change and install softwares, now I want to install on DVD the newest version of Ubuntu and Kubuntu, beside puppy and some other distros, and my question is: how to edit K/Ubuntu ISO image with aim that I don't need to change anything anymore after I burn it on DVD?

I suppose I should unpack and edit ISO image (add softwares and change appearance) and after that pack it again in ISO image. Maybe it is easier to burn Ubuntu to CD, to change and install what I want, into Live CD, and then to extract such Ubuntu to ISO image, then it would be ready to burn it together with other distros into DVD?

Ubuntu Installation :: Burning The 64-bit ISO - Always Bombs Out On Closing Or Finalizing The CD

Apr 11, 2010

I'm having issues burning the 64-bit ISO. I currently have 32-bit installed and wanted to have a fresh 64-bit build. The MD5 checks out OK. I tried burning it in Windows with Nero, in my 32-bit Ubuntu, at reduced speeds, and no dice. I had no issues burning the 32-bit ISO. The burn always bombs out on closing or finalizing the CD.

Fedora Installation :: F12 DVD Has Error - Tried Burning And Downloading Several Times

I've downloaded the DVD version of Fedora 12 with a torrent so it shouldn't be corruped - checked the hash anyway and it wasn't - and I burnt it at a low speed and has my burning program verify that it did indeed burn what it was supposed to. I tested the disc for errors and every time it shows up that around the 70% mark that the DVD has an error.

Ubuntu Installation :: Verification Of The CD (after Burning) Could Not Verify "initrd.lz"

Jan 21, 2010

Just joined the forums as I was downloading Ubuntu Desktop 9.10 (32-bit) from [URL]

Upon burning the .iso to the CD using ImgBurn, the verification of the CD (after burning) could not verify "initrd.lz". I checked that the file was there (it was about 5KB) and continued anyway (probably not a good idea but I figured I could always "Check disk for defects")

After putting the disk in, everything started up great, I selected English and when I clicked on "Check disk for defects" the entire process froze and a multicolored bar of random pixels showed up. I rebooted and tried the "Install Ubuntu" and even the F6 Other Options (checking all the options, then clicking "Install Ubuntu"). I even tried "Test Memory".

Otherwise the menu screen works fine. All F1 through F6 work, the entire help documentation works, but no installer.

I'm sort of stuck now and could use some input since this is uncharted territory for me. The computer does have a version of Windows XP in who-knows-what condition (it won't start up). I don't care about any of the information on the drive and would be fine with wiping it out because that's what I originally planned to do.

Today I want to install Ubuntu on a friends laptop. I finally convinced him to leave Windows and move on to Ubuntu. Ironically this has brought me into problems. I have downloaded the ubuntu-10.10-dvd-i386.iso and ubuntu-10.10-desktop-i386.iso to make a bootable cd/dvd to install Ubuntu. Now both K3b and Brasero give me problems burning one of the .iso files. Ubuntu :: GUI Crashing And Burning?

Jun 3, 2011

It started when I woke up to find that the Unity dock was misbehaving -- none of the icons were appearing, though there was something at the top that looked like a couple of the "flattened" icons that are usually at the bottom. I can't remember what I did in the terminal or gnome-system-monitor to try and fix this, but I think it was unity --reset. (Should've been --replace, I know that now. Unless I was barking up the wrong tree altogether) The result was that the dock disappeared altogether along with the tops of all windows, much as has happened in the past when metacity crashed. But now alt-f2 wasn't working, and while I had a terminal open (and in front of all the other windows), I couldn't type anything into it. (I could, however, right-click and start a new terminal, which didn't work either.)

So then I switched to tty1-6. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use those to start things in tty7, only kill processes. I did some Googling and tried sudo service gdm restart. This, according to ps, ended most of the processes I had open, and now tty7 is stuck on a text screen that says "Ubuntu 11.04" at the top and "* Checking battery state... [ OK ]" at the bottom and has a blinking cursor at the bottom right. Ctrl-Alt-F8 opens a GUI login screen that lists me as "Currently logged in."I'm completely lost here. Is there anything I can do to fix tty7? Is there even anything I should bother doing now but rebooting?

Im getting very slow DVD burning. Quite often in Turbojet2 or using growisofs or whatever, Im getting 0.5x DVD burning speeds.

I set the burn speed to 12x on Turbojet, but it hovers from 0.5x to maybe bursts of 5x.

Ubuntu :: Burning Split Tar.gz Files To DVD?

Feb 4, 2010

I am using rsync to create rotating snapshot style backups of my web files and sending them via SSH to a remote location in order to burn them for offsite storage. This is all working perfect. The remote machine is a Windows Server 2003 which has data that I combine with my web files before burning. I have cygwin installed on the remote server in order to archive and compress the entire backup using tar. (This is not a post about cygwin, I just thought I would mention it in case anyone was wondering how I was running Linux commands after transferring it to the Windows box). After compression, the backup is over 12gb. The next step in my process is to split this tar.gz file into smaller chunks in order to burn them to DVDs. I use dual layer DVDs which are 8.5gb storage size.

I also use cygwin to split the tar.gz into multiple 2gb files using the split command. When I burn them, I only put 3 files on each disk totaling 6gb to leave some padding in case this was a problem. The burn completes and says successful, although it errors out when in verification. I have tried this multiple times and it seems to fail verification at the same point every time which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the data. I have also done tests such as creating smaller backups with completely different data and brning that to a CD-R which worked fine, so I'm convinced this process can work, I just cant get it to work in the right situation. I have also tried burning one of the 7 split files to a dual DVD which also worked fine. I'm wondering if their is a chunk of data that is causing this problem in one of the other split files?

Ubuntu :: DVD Burning With 10.4 / 64bit Failed

Sep 15, 2010

I have installed Ubunutu 10.4 64 bit on my AMD64 computer and most things seem to work fine. Except for burning DVDs. I have a BH10LS30 device which reads CDs and DVDs without problems. Then I wanted to burn a DVD+R (Philips) with the Gnome burn program (which autostarts when inserting a blank DVD+R) and it failed - disk not usable anymore. Then I tried with Brasero (which seems to be the same program) with same result. Then I installed k3b and it failed again - but not destroying the disk, just not touching it. Error messages all like "an unknown error occured".

Then I tried DVD+RW (Sony). That also failed. Then I booted the computer with Knoppix 6 from an USB stick and started k3b. Worked perfectly with the Philips DVD+R disks which failed three times in Ubuntu! What could be the problem? Could it be the 64-bit driver (Knoppix was 32 bit)? Could it be an Ubuntu-Issue?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Converting And Burning A DVD?

None will convert to a NTSC format without trying to create a DVD menu which seems to be the problem involved in playback except for Transmageddon, but it fails to provide the bup and ifo files to go with the video files to get K3B to burn it. I'm able to make DVD's that work on computers, but I want DVD's that will play in my DVD player. Ubuntu :: Burning Dvd Backups On 4.7 Disks?

May 16, 2011

The reason I'm here today is because wine seems to have changed quite a bit. It used to be simple and I only need it for a couple of programs called dvd decrptor and dvd shrink. I've tried some programs in linux and haven't been able to get them to work, like DVD 5. It could be me, of course! So, I haven't been able to get wine to read my cd-rom hardware to where I can back up my dvds. Are there any solutions that anyone knows of on Wine or linux programs which I prefer? I did create an iso from a dvd with DVD 5, I believe, and then had it set up to burn with k3b. The first part of the dvd came up with the menus and music, but I could go no further than that. I figure there is some little something that I'm doing wrong or some bit of linux software suport for DVD 5 or k3b that I do not have. That's usually what it is.
