Ubuntu :: Error - "Could Not Launch 'FirstClass Client' :Failed To Execute Child Process "/opt/firstclass/fcc"
Oct 18, 2010I just installed a program and do not know what is causing this error. When I run it from the applications menu I get the following error "Could not launch 'FirstClass Client' :Failed to execute child process "/opt/firstclass/fcc" (No such file or directory)". I opened up a terminal and looked at the location. The file is there. I do not know much at all in this area but do not understand why this error is occurring.

Ubuntu Installation :: Windows Installer Launch Error Message
Feb 1, 2011I want to download and install Ubuntu to run alongside Windows 7 in a dual boot configuration. and downloaded the Windows Installer, but when I try to launch it I get an error message which I captured and attached to this post. What's really wierd is that once the message is displayed, I can't get rid of it. Even running the Task Manager to try to close the message doesn't work. I literally have to restart the computer to get rid of the message!
Am I suppose to be downloading the Windows Installer (Wubi) to a CD first where I run it from there? If so, the instructions don't mention that. Can't I download it directly to my C: drive and then run it from there? If so, why am I getting the error message?
General :: Unable To Launch GUI Based Installer On Machine
Dec 8, 2010When i tried to launch 2012 installer using GUI based command , it gives the following error message :-

It is Observerd that ( but not sure ):-
It is looking for = > ./u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/lib/stubs/libXm.so.4.
I tried soft linking libXm.so.3 with libXm.so.4 but it doesn't help. Also tried downloading Openmotif and installing, its asking for many dependency packages.
The following packages are also reported to be missing:-
When i try to download and run rpm on these, it gives dependency problem. And these dependencies seem to be deadlocked. I don not understand how i can go about it..
Ubuntu :: Netbook Launcher Failed To Launch?
Jul 11, 2010I've installed ubuntu netbook remix on my Asus Eee Pc. I've fixed the wireless and various issues on it. This morning when I rebooted my computer the netbook launcher failed to launch and there were no icons on the menu. When I clicked on the go home applet it appears inactive and the windows are not minimized. When I typed netbook-launcher in terminal it gave a single line output named segmentation fault. I dont want to reinstall ubuntu.

1st trial: 10.04 installer recognized the last largest logical drive for system installation, but installer truncated the extended partition, and created the "terrible" 5th primary partition at the end of the HDD. GParted and other utilities cannot access to this 5th primary partition. (So, I restored the lost partition table on the HDD manually by MBM. But several OS were broken.)
2nd trial: To avoid making this "terrible" 5th primary partition, I located the largest logical drive for installation at not of the end.10.04 installer recognized this logical drive, but failed again.I tried GParted. but also failed to formating to ext4.Maybe, 10.04 installer failed at this formating step. Logical drives are not supported in 10.04 ?

Mar 6, 2010I recently brought home an old Compaq server from work. I was told that it works fine. When I brought it home, I tried installing Ubuntu 9.10 server from a cd. While it's trying to install, I get the message "Installation step failed. An installation step failed. You can try to run the following item again from the menu, or skip it and choose something else. The failing step is: Load installer components from CD." I turned off the computer and tried it again several times. Each time the same message appears.

Debian Installation :: Wheezy - Installer Failed On Grub
Nov 23, 2014I am installing Whezzy and the installer failed to install grub on the MBR of /dev/sda
My disks are
- /dev/sda : the flash drive with the debian ISO
- /dev/sbd : a small SSD for the / partition (sdb1)
- /dev/sdc + /dev/sdd : a software RAID-1 array with LVM for /home, ...
Grub fails to install on /dev/sda which makes sense since this is the flash drive containing the Debian ISO so no MBR.
I already tried to run grub-update manually on /dev/sdb (with chroot /target grub-install --no-floppy --force "/dev/sdb" ).
It works but the system is not directly bootable. I had access to a second PC to read the grub documentation so was able to boot and to fix my system but this is annoying.
Is it normal to see my flash drive as /dev/sda? Could it be that my flash drive is incorrectly detected as a HD?
Is there a way to force the installer to install grub on /dev/sdb?
Debian :: Installation Saying Failed To Find An Installer ISO Image
Aug 28, 2010I try to install linux on hpc mini. Let's crack some keyboards. I have just bought a new pc: hpc mini compaq! I find windows Xp rather fine; but let's try linux. The PC has no cdrom, so, I cannot boot from any ISO of debian. I choosed testing netinstall, and followed the how to given on the debian website from another PC using knoppix iso cdrom. I did placed five files as shown here onto my pendrive as followed in one howto: I found 5 files for testing:

Mar 15, 2011I just upgraded opensuse from version 11.3 to 11.4 using the online method changing the repositories. But now when i log into my gnome session as "normal user" and open a gnome terminal, then trying to launch a graphic application such as gedit or any other application that relys on X, it returns a problem such as:

Apr 6, 2011Just figured this one out and thought I'd post it here in case it helped someone else. Skype just upgraded itself from 2.1 to 2.2. After upgrading it didn't start, and I got the message
"failed to execute child process skype-wrapper" First test out if skype runs from the command line, by running this in a terminal
Code: skype & If it runs, you're good to go: simply right click on the menu, locate your entry for skype and change the command to launch it from skype-wrapper to skype. The reason for this is that in the 2.1 version, skype needed a script called skype-wrapper to set some varibles before start up. Upgrading removes the script, but failed to update the menu entry.

Oct 16, 2010Toward the end of installing Ubuntu 10.10 32bit (Alt CD) on my iMac 11,1, the installer asked me to type in the location for installing the grub boot loader.
I told it to use /dev/sda3 and it immediately failed. I'm still in the installer. Can anyone suggest a solution?
Here are my partitions on sda:

Oct 15, 2010There seems to be a common solution to get the webcam working with Skype - rather than launching with Skype you launch with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype - so far so good. When I do this I get the error There was an error launching the application. Details: Failed to execute child process "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so" (No such file or directory). But I do have that directory and file on my system.
A ubuntu community doc talks about the terminal command sudo ld.so.preload-manager when I action this I get sudo ld.so.preload-manager /usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so [sudo] password for dad: sudo: ld.so.preload-manager: command not found

General :: Kernel Panic On Boot - Authentication Process Failed
Feb 22, 2011I got home today to find that my KDE login screen would not let me log in. It said the authentication process failed or something and I needed to terminate the screen lock process manually. So I go over to another virtual terminal and try to log in. As soon as I enter my user name, a bunch of errors come up and I am unable to log in. "This can't be good" I think to myself, and reboot.
I am greeted by this error upon booting:
The error says that it says it cannot find /sbin/init. I loaded up a Ubuntu live CD and verified that /sbin/init is indeed present and all my other files still seem to be there. I tried booting into arch fallback on grub but that didn't work either. Midway through the day I SSHed my desktop from my phone and started it doing an upgrade. I was able to login.

Feb 3, 2011I have an Acer 9410Z laptop that I believe is running the Maverick Meerkat version of Ubuntu Studio. I just did an upgrade using Synaptic. I get to GRUB, but When I try to boot 2.6.35-22 (or the recovery mode or a real time kernel I had installed )I get the error:
INIT: Failed to spawn ureadahead main process. No such file or directory I then get the Ubuntu Studio splash screen for 2 seconds but then instead of a normal boot I end up in the terminal.
