"(process:325): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)"
It comes after choosing language, when the Ubuntu start-up logo shows with the 5 dut under it. I am trying to install Ubuntu Netbook on a little Compaq Mini.
When i try to install Ubuntu 11.04 or try without installing i get graphics like this:[URL] same with older versions, and on older versions i used to get this error: (process:257):GLib-Warning**:getpwuid_r():failed due to unknown user id(0) but on new version it dosent appear. My graphics card is: GeForce 7600GT MSI.
Currently running 10.04. Just did some updates and when it finished rebooting it just doesn't work right. Whenever I click on my user name to enter my password it freezes for 3-5 seconds then the screen reloads. If I do Ctrl+Alt+F7 I get this error(the title of the thread). I have no earthly idea what this means but everything was working great until I did my updates just a couple hours ago. on??
i just tried to install Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my old Amilo Lifebook P Series. But after the boot screen and the choice to install Ubuntu i get stuck at the Ubuntu screen with the little dots on the bottom If I hit esc i can see the warning (process 257): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_(r) failed due to unknown user id (0)
I'm running an up-to-date Lucid Lynx, full encryption with LUKS on my Eee 1005HA. Since yesterday, after booting, the only "X" is can see is the mouse cursor above a console-like text, saying:
Code:
(process_290) GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_(): failed due to unknown user id (0) init: ureadahead main process (410) terminated with status 5 fsck [clean, blah bla, check deferred, on battery]
[code]....
So, I googled for the getpwuid_r thing. I found a blog saying to install nscd (did so) and run it. But: To my inconvenience, after every booting, I have to switch to console 1, log in, run "sudo /etc/init.d/nscd restart" and then "sudo restart gdm".
I tried posting this before and I'm not sure what happened but I don't think it worked, so if it did please forgive the double post.am very very new to centOS and linux in general. I just want to setup a test web server that more closely mirrors our actual web server that is hosted by rackspace. I've installed centOS and tried to setup Apache, PHP and MySQL from a guide on the web using Yum. When I go to localhost in the web browser I'm able to see the default apache page. However when I create a php page it's just blank. When I look at the apache error logs I get this: PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
I've been searching alot on the internet and I know the issue is permission related, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen some forum posts that say you need to use the chmod 775 command on the /var/www/html folder.Currently when I do ls -l /var/www/html it returns
-rw------- 1 root root 19 May 5 13:16 index.php -rw------- 1 root root 19 May 5 13:15 index.php~
I'm sure that this isn't correct but like I said I don't know much about how to set permissions or who the owner needs to be. I've done alot of searching and seen similar posts, but no one seems to explain it clearly.
(gimp:4216): GLib-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./glib/goption.c:2132: ignoring no-arg, optional-arg or filename flags ( on option of type 0 segmentation fault
gimp stopped working on kubuntu after installing updates, any fix?
I just isntalled LAMP using tasksel and have a problem. Whenever I try to access a page (aside from phpmyadmin, that works well), I get this error... Code: Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0 Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required '/var/www/index.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php:/usr/share/pear') in Unknown on line 0
I have restarted the computer, restarted apache, etc and still nothing. When I first installed, phpmyadmin was inaccessible, so I ran some command in terminal which apparently created a symlink between phpmyadmin in the user/share dir to the /var/www dir, and curious if this is the problem. I have no clue how to remove this symlink if this is the case, and have phpmyadmin working now due to install using sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin.
Nothing to do. Used zypper dup to upgrade from 11.3. Still have boot problems (will open another thread), but had major problems upgrading timezone. File downloads would reach some percentage of completion, then B/s would slowly reduce, to zero. Upgrade would halt until manually aborted. Solution was to manually download 5 timezone files and install them in a directory repository. File download did not specify just the timezone file, but also a part of the directory. Could this be part of the problem? example: ./rpm/i586/timezone-2011d-0.2.1.i586.rpm instead of just the file name.System is a Dell 3000 (Pentium 4, 512MB memory).
My recent issue is that when i start firefox 3.6.7 OS 9.10 is that the terminal will pop up and have this error: (firefox-bin:2690): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times. I can only have firefox running when the terminal is running. If I close the terminal firefox will close as well
Read an article on Lifehacker about the new Thunderbird 3; decided to install it. I installed just Thunderbird itself first,
Code:
sudo yum -y install thunderbird
but when I try to run it I get this error:
Code:
(thunderbird-bin:17467): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times I've since updated completely (which changed nothing, since I updated right before I installed Thunderbird) and installed thunderbird-lightning and thunderbird-enigmail, as they are both extensions I used in the past, to see if they would pull in any odd dependencies to solve the problem.
Quite often (but not always) I'm getting this when I try to shutdown:
I looked at 'top' for a while and didn't see anything obvious, but there's always stuff running there that I don't necessarily know about. Looking at 'processes' using 'system monitor', I found a zombie'd process called 'runbackschedule'. Could this be it?
Maybe someone can shed some light on this process that is running. It is using my CPU about 100% since there are 2 instances of it running with about 50% used by each.abc_sieve_2.10_i686-pc-linux-gnuI've never noticed it running before and don't think I've installed anything except updates.
If I look at firestarter actve connections I see that there are several connections from me to some dynamic ip, on various ports. I have no idea what that is.1. How to find which process is doing this connection ?2This is sure nothing good, how to kill /block connection
I'm pinging a certain website and what happens is that each time the ping process freezes for an unknown reason ca. 10-15 sec then it starts to ping. Note that only this particular domain causes this hanging and Ctrl-c seems to have no effect at all! The domain is niteco. So far I've tried several independent linux systems all with the same result however other non-linux systems ping normally.
I'm trying to set up a backup routine using the instructions at[URL]..I tried duplicity but I it wouldn't connect
Code: PASSPHRASE='xxx' FTP_PASSWORD='password' duplicity /etc ftp://russ@ftpsite.com/etc so tried Code: ncftpls -d russ.log -p password -u russ ftp://ftpsite.com wouldn't connect either, then realised the user id should be an email address
Whenever I try to install Xubuntu onto my really old computer (not this one), it goes to a screen that shows nothing except the Xubuntu logo and the name. After a bit, my monitor falls asleep, and I am unable to wake it back up.If I press enter while at this screen, it brings up the error message in the title. The same thing happens with all the options I try to press.

I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Desktop 64-bit edition. The install worked and I was able to restart the machine no problems. Last week (5/27/10) I shut down my machine and since then I cannot boot. I assume it's because of new software maybe a new kernel; I did an "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade" on May 28th or 27th. Upon booting if I hit Esc right away I see:
(process:325): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0) [About 5 minutes passes then this next line prints] BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off (initramfs) [this is some kind of shell...who can't see my harddrive]
start working with SA+Amavis+clamd+postfix+dovecot.will be my filter:spamassassin+amavisd-new+clamd. 1 Server will be my mail server: postfix+dovecot. Like u see, the emails from the outside reach first the filter, latter the mailbox. Now, I have seen in my log files, that if I receive a email to a "unknown user", the filter doesn't detect this and process the email and send it to the mail server. Exist a way to setup the filter to first check if the user exist and them apply all hard work and latter send the email to the mail server
I've been using synergy on Ubuntu 9.04 and windows xp.Synergy 1.3.1 on both machines. My problem is that the server keeps cutting out. It seems to happen a lot when I watch flash videos on the server machine (ubuntu). This is what the server side looks like:
Code:
NOTE: synergys.cpp,500: started server INFO: CServer.cpp,1141: screen "server" shape changed NOTE: CClientListener.cpp,127: accepted client connection
[code]....
I dont think I usually get disconnected when doing other tasks. Mostly only when watching flash videos. Sometimes it doesnt automatically reconnect, and I have to kill synergys and restart it.
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, and I am having problems with GDB. When I attempt to debug a C program in kdbg or codeblocks, the output terminal will display this message: "warning: GDB: Failed to set controlling terminal: Operation not permitted" I have searched quite a bit and I have not found a fix that works.
I am running the latest stable versions of all my software supplied by the ubuntu repositories My system meets all the dependencies for KDBG and Codeblocks
I am running gnome, but the KDE files installed by Synaptic are version 3.5.10 I have KDBG version 2.1.1 I have GDB version 7.0-0ubuntu1 I have CodeBlocks 8.02-0ubuntu4
If anybody needs any more information in order to give ideas or knowledge on how to fix this just let me know
Is there a DE/distro neutral (I guess CLI) method of changing a given user's user ID on a Linux system? I want to set all my systems to have the same UserID so my external hard drive stops giving permission errors when moving between them.
i have tried going through this old post but its still not working ... tried googling but i do not seem to find any conclusive solution for this. [URL]i am getting this error during boot time:
there is no immediate effect due to this but after sometime the HDD goes in read-only mode. have tried changing bios setting from IDE to AHCI, did a disk check using hiren boot disk which did not give any errors.even now the error still persists. Linux 2.6.18-164.el5PAE #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 04:10:44 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux CentOS release 5.4 (Final) i know i should probably upgrade my kernel but i see people with latest kernel also facing the same issue (mostly with samsung hdd but mine is seagate)
