Ubuntu :: Boot Error: Failed To Spawn Rc-sysinit Main Process?

May 28, 2010

I have a minimal installation of Ubuntu, with lxde-core and some other apps I really use. Sometimes when I start the system, it hangs and nothing else happens. I hit Esc and then I see:Code:init: Failed to spawn rc-sysinit main porcess: Unable to open console: Input/Output error.I get stuck there, and the only thing I can do is to hold the power button, shutdown, boot again, and pray it will boot fine. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Ubuntu :: Init: Failed To Spawn Network-manager Main Process: Unable To Execute: No Such File Or Directory

May 27, 2010

I just updated from 9.04 to 9.10 (it's a long story, and I still can't go beyond 2.30).The update got rid of WICD, which is what I used and installed network-manager. Network-manager was not working at all, so I uninstalled it again and installed WICD. I could connect perfectly and had no problems. However, now the computer hangs during boot, saying that init can't start network-manager. I assume that something went wrong during the uninstalling process, since it wasn't updated.

This is the message: init: Failed to spawn network-manager main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory.

So how do I update it or manually change it so it stops requesting network-manager?

Software :: Init: Failed To Spawn Readahead-collector Main Process: Unable To Execute: No Such File Or Directory

Apr 6, 2011

My machine is dual booted with Fedora 14 and RHEL 6. (I have only installed Red Hat because I am studying for RHCE). Just now I tried to install the Banshee player on my Red Hat OS. I ran various scripts inside the directory to see what really happens and after I ran the 'Makefile.in' file my terminal froze. It displayed '/bin/ not found'Then i restarted my computer and I got the following messages:

init: Failed to spawn readahead-collector main process: unable to execute: no such file or directory
init: Failed to spawn rcS main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory
init: Failed to spawn readahead main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory

I tried run level 1 and run level 3 but I get the same error messages.

PS: My Fedora 14 installation is working fine.

Code:

init: plymouth main process (58) killed by SEGV signal and that's where it hangs. Pressing ENTER or hitting Esc does nothing. What steps can I take to recover my machine and all the files I used to have on it?

General :: Kernel Panic On Boot - Authentication Process Failed

Feb 22, 2011

I got home today to find that my KDE login screen would not let me log in. It said the authentication process failed or something and I needed to terminate the screen lock process manually. So I go over to another virtual terminal and try to log in. As soon as I enter my user name, a bunch of errors come up and I am unable to log in. "This can't be good" I think to myself, and reboot.

I am greeted by this error upon booting:
The error says that it says it cannot find /sbin/init. I loaded up a Ubuntu live CD and verified that /sbin/init is indeed present and all my other files still seem to be there. I tried booting into arch fallback on grub but that didn't work either. Midway through the day I SSHed my desktop from my phone and started it doing an upgrade. I was able to login.

Ubuntu Installation :: Xp And - Netbook Dual Boot - Error - Windows Boot Failed

Jul 8, 2010

I have a netbook running Windows XP as standard. There is also a recovery partition which came from the factory.

In the past I installed Ubuntu (I think 9.something) from USB key and all worked fine. However my XP became corrupted and I needed to do a repair on it. After this, Ubuntu became removed from the boot select menu.

Since then, Ubuntu has become updated to 10.04, which I now cannot install.

The Live CD tells me there is a "file IO error" and simply stops installation at around 70%.

I did manage to get into Ubuntu from a Live USB using Wubi. However when I chose to install Ubuntu to a Harddrive, the option to "install side by side" was missing.

After reading on the forums, I did a chkdsk /f on Windows and tried again. Now my liveUSB does not show a boot menu!

When I select to boot from USB stick, the screen goes blank with a flashing cursor. Ctrl+alt+dlt reboots.

I'm really lost here! It seems when I fix one problem, another problem arises!

Also when trying to instal Ubuntu within Windows, the process goes through to 100% and asks me to reboot. When I do so, the option for Ubuntu does show in the boot menu. However when I select it, I get an error "Windows boot failed: file wubildr.mbr and status: 0xc00000f - something is corrupt".

Then I have to shutdown the computer manually with hardware button. It's no big deal, it's just not that comfortable and I'd really like to know why this is happening.

I am trying to create a launcher in Fedora 13 which will run a simple script named proj4a. I created a launcher called Proj4a and in the command field I entered the following: '/home/enowak/proj4a >/home/enowak/proj4a_out' When I click on the launcher it comes back with the following: There was an error launching the application. Anyone know what is causing this, what problems can happen as a result, and what should be done about it? I moved from 9.10 on one machine to 10.10 on a new machine, so I don't know if it's a hardware problem or software. I am running 64-bit. I am not really seeing any problems happening besides the few scattered application and GUI glitches that are common with a new/migrated setup.
