Ubuntu :: Firefox - Cannot Interact After Loading Page?
Apr 15, 2010When I start firefox the home google page will load and all is well. When I go to any other page (ex. cnn.com, gmail, etc) the page will load graphically, but then continue to load forever. At this point I cannot click on anything in firefox including the drop-down menus.I must force quit at this point.
I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. I reinstalled firefox and went back to firefox 3.5 without any success.This makes me think that the problem is something other than firefox.I am on a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5965 running ubuntu 9.10. I'd give you more information but when I click on system and go down to "About Ubuntu" it loads forever - this is another problem I need to fix. Ugh. I should never have updated

Mar 5, 2010Why do I keep getting this error when I try to search something on google. It happens when my query has around five or more words. If a search for just one or two words I don't get the error. I know it's not google because it happens with bing, msn, and yahoo too. The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

Mar 21, 2011Problem with Jaunty (yes I know its old) on line. The thing is some web pages are fine and some just never seem to open up with Firefox.
I dont seem to have any problems when I attempt to ping for instance google.

I also can open up for example, The Guardian (newspaper) home page, but when I try to open any page within the site it will try loading to no avail.
In general it seems to be almost 50% open and 50% will never open.

Apr 29, 2011In ubuntu however, page loading is Unnaturally slow and "[url]...." (or whatever), returns result every 4 seconds. Strange is that Skype and online games (read HoN) work fine, with only problem is store loading 10seconds and during logging time. I will post all the command output.

Fedora :: Firefox Very Slow Page Loading
May 5, 2010With the last several updates to Firefox, loading pages from several different sites slows down to (slower than) a crawl - taking sometimes minutes. Most of the time, this occurs loading ads.
I don't remember what release this started with, but I didn't have problems before, and I don't have any problems loading the same web pages on IE8 (running on XP). This is the same on F12 and F11.
I have tried changing some of the securty choices, even tried blocking certain sites, but no luck.
Also, several times after a download, firefox freezes, although the rest of the desktop is okay.

Aug 3, 2010i'm using fedora 13 OS and installed web invoice application in my server. whenever i open the site, the problem on "connection to the server was reset..." is persistent. i was advised to clear the cache which i did. it work for a while but with just a few page loaded the same problem occur and i need to clear the cache. again i found a suggestion in the internet to add post_max_size = 48M file_uploads = On upload_max_filesize = 192M to the php5.ini. i also did this in my server, but the same problem occurs.

It contains PHP scripts to load, let's say, current user's data from database and the internationalized content itself, like "Welcome user" message. The problem for me is the fact, that internationalized content is not continual, and it's all over the page mixed with php scripts.
I don't want to use eval(). I've got 2 , they are, however, not good enough. 1. One file per language version, with scripts included - there will be many languages, so there would have to be many files with redundant data. Also if I wanted to change structure of script, I would have to change it in all pages. 2. Load international data from db, while scripts are on the page - not sure about good database structure I mean, how would I get the right content from database? (content would be split into rows, columns, or something?)
CentOS 5 Networking :: Slow When Connecting To The Web (e.g. Page Loading)?
Jul 6, 2009When running Firefox, page loading is very slow (e.g. taking nearly a minute for a ..... video to start; even gmail is slow). This is in contrast with my performance when using, e.g. linuxdcpp (file sharing), where I get speeds over 300kbps. Here is some relevant information:

Ubuntu :: Cannot Go Beyond Login Page
Mar 13, 2010Something happened with my Ubuntu installation - when it reaches to the "login" "password" screen it gives the message in the upper corner that the power management has not been installed properly. So, when I try to login, it throws me back to the login screen. This happens with every prevous installation available from GRUB menu: "! Install Problem.The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly. Please contact administrator."
The Recovery mode seems to work perfectly well, however it puts me in a dos prompt screen, from which I do not know how to operate.I believe one possible reason for this to happen is that my Hard Disk where Ubuntu is installed, altogether with the SWAP disc which ubuntu uses, are completely full. I tried to free some space through my installation of Vista, but the program Ext2fsd does not enable me to see the content on my ext3 drives, only shows first level directory structure (the foldrs appear "empty" under Vista.
Could someone help me with a "magical" command line that I can type in recovery mode please...so that I free some space from my /user/videos directory (I dont mind it wiped out completely) and also all "wine" installations, that I can also wipe out. If the reason of Ubuntu not continuing beyond login screen is space, I do not mind anything that can free some space somehow and enable it to start.
Software :: Can't Get Past Ubuntu Login Page
May 14, 2011I have Ubuntu 11.04, last night I installed GAdmin-Squid. This morning, I woke up and I can't get past the login page of my computer. Whenever I enter my password, it just returns me to the login page. I've tried sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop, but that didn't fix the issue.

I've been looking for a very simple document management system, where I can record the category (bank statement etc.) date, comment, etc.
I don't want to make these accessible via the internet and I really don't want to hand them all to Mr. Google, via googledocs, because he already has enough info about me without reading my bank statements.
Ubuntu :: Authentication Failed Message At Login Page
Mar 20, 2010the laptop of my friend runs ubuntu through wubi. The system suddenly freezed and she restarted it manually. After doing a check disk and automatically repaired some packages(unfortunately she doesn't remember what exactly, only just inode information appeared), she can't log in as when she types her username and password the answer is authentication failed. We tried to change the password through recovery mode but nothing happened.
1. Do you have something to propose to solve the login problem?
2. If not how can i access and back up her ubuntu documents through windows?
Ubuntu :: Restore Login Page Icon In Lucid?
May 4, 2010I have just upgraded from Karmic to Lucid and have an issue with the login screen. It defaulted to show the edubuntu logo. this is probably because I tested the edubuntu packages on my system and it thought it was a edubuntu system.
I went into /usr/share/pixmaps/splash and replaced the edubuntu-splash.png file with the Ubuntu logo png (i renamed the file).
Unfortunately this did not work and now I have a login screen with a "no image" icon.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Make Timidity Recognize Bank Variations?
Mar 5, 2011I have Timidity++ 2.12.0 in Windows and a Soundfont customized by myself named Collection.sf2. everything I had to write in Timidity.cfg file was:

And just with that Timidity recognizes all presets in all banks of my soundfont. (This soundfont has more than 600 presets in more than 30 different banks.) I tried Timidity++ 2.13 for Windows with the same soudnfont and cfg file and it didn't work. 2.13 version recognized only the 127 presets of the first bank. so I went back to 2.12.0 version. The same now happens when I installed Timidity in Opensuse. etc/timidity.cfg file points to /usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg file. In this last file I wrote the following:
dir /home/fernando/Soundfonts
soundfont Collection.sf2
I connected Rosegarden to Timidity and tried presets from several banks that use to be recognized automatically when I connect Rosegarden to Qsynth. But in Timidity no matter what bank I choose the sound comes only from the presets of the first bank. I tried the same connecting vkybd (a virtual midi keyboard found in multimedia repo) to timidity and even if i choose bank 2, 8, 16... the sound is always from instrumens of bank 0. it seems that Timidity 2.12 was the only version that recognized bank variations automatically just like Qsynth does. I could not succeed in this in any later version, neither in Windows nor in Linux.

Jun 7, 2010I use firefox3.6.x, and i play online video (sockwave flash) often, but while opening the page (often has swf), the whole X restart, and back to login window of gdm. The problem not accured everytime i open the page, but very often. I met this problem both in ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04, and also lubuntu 10.04. So, i fall back to use firefox 3.5.9, and evrything seems fine.

I have also tried to d/load KMymoney and I get to the part where it says (extracting files from archive) then I get a box saying Extraction completed successfully then:- open the destination or close
If i close nothing happens when I go to open destination I am taken to a list of files and after that I don't know what to do.
Ubuntu :: Loading Login Screen ?
Jun 13, 2010My computer shut off randomly when battery died now my computers log in screen won't show.
The area where I put user and pass is completely black but I have mouse control its all I see a loading mouse pointer.
When ever I try to do sudo Apt get update I get things like " w: failed to fetch [url] There's a lot of them similar to that one failed to fetch
I've also tried to do compiz thing also I had no luck doing so anyone know how to resolve?
Ubuntu :: 11.04 Desktop Not Loading After Login?
May 15, 2011Recently, updated to 11.04. Yesterday I booted the system and found that after I login my Desktop does not come up.. The mouse indicator just continues to spins. I have observed if I wait about 5 minutes my screen saver will kick in. My setting is for 5 minutes. Once I cancel the screen saver Iḿ back to the mouse indicator circling continuously. At that point all I am able to do is restart and try again. None of the keyboard shortcuts seem to work when that situation exist.I am running a Compaq Presario Dual boot2 GiB of RamAMD Athlon XP 2000+

Aug 4, 2015I am trying to connect to a paid for hotspot service. There is no encryption for the wifi.
In Windows you connect to the hotspot, and then any webpage that you attempt to connect to results in you being redirected to their login page.
Once you have put a username and password into their page, the internet works. I know the hostname and IP address of the login page so actually I can go straight there if necessary.
With Debian I have tried Network Manager, WICD and command line iwconfig and dhclient.
With Network Manager or WICD the connection just will not start. It seems to connect to the hotspot then immediately fall off before you can go to the login page.
With iwconfig and dhclient I get mode Managed not-associated. Sometime dhclient seems to return an IP address sometimes not. I'm not sure if it's because it already has an address in it's lease lifetime.
I think that dhclients sends a ping once the connection is up to verify the link? But this will not work until the page is logged into.
Windows "just works" even warning you that you need a login page and then loading it. How I can use this wifi service with Linux?
Fedora Installation :: GUI And F14 Won't Boot - Goes Into A Loop Between The Login Page
Feb 19, 2011I removed the LXDE and XFCE packages and now when I try to boot into F14 it goes into a loop between the login page and the fedora icon with blue background showing a X over the icon. In other words, it is looping between the login screen and the previous screen. I think I broke it good. Is there anyway to recover from this?

Apr 29, 2011I just updated from 10.10 to 11.04 about an hour ago and I've already managed to crash it. (currently running from my old 10.04 Live CD)
the first restart from the update worked fine. i had a look around and tried to orientate myself to the new dash etc.
this is where the problem comes in.
All i did was open the control center and have a look at the new Unity and Gnome 3 settings etc.
My computer froze and so i had to force shutdown and restart.
I then discover my two main problems.
- the new grub menu/splash screen is displaying at too high a frequency for my monitor to display (if i wait long enough it loads 11.04's login screen by default.)
- upon login, all i can see is my desktop background and my cairo dock from 10.10 but nothing else. (no panel or app launcher side bar)
