Ubuntu :: Document Management App - Record The Category - Bank Statement - Date - Comment
Dec 29, 2010
I'm trying to clear a bit of space in my overstuffed filing cabinet by scanning all my bank statements, credit card statements, insurance, important post etc. into my computer.
I've been looking for a very simple document management system, where I can record the category (bank statement etc.) date, comment, etc.
I don't want to make these accessible via the internet and I really don't want to hand them all to Mr. Google, via googledocs, because he already has enough info about me without reading my bank statements.
My bank statement s get delivered via email but they require a special decoder to be read. I got the decoder here [URL].. (the gui version), extracted it and tried to install it but the terminal gives me the following message:
bigseb@bigseb-laptop:~/Documents/reader$ sudo rpm -i /striata-reader-1.0-27-linux-2.4-intel rpm: please use alien to install rpm packages on Debian, if you are really sure use --force-debian switch. See README.Debian for more details. bigseb@bigseb-laptop:~/Documents/reader$

The following are the two tex input files written in vi and compiled with pdflatex. In the first case the document details (author, date etc) are displayed as desired but are omitted in the second case. The only difference is the use of maketitle.
Case 1: documentclass{article} author{Name} date{} itle{Title} Begin{document} maketitle Text to be inputted end{document}
Case 2: documentclass{article} author{Name} date{} itle{Title} Begin{document} Text to be inputted end{document}
We are building our C++ project in Kdevelop IDE. Every time we run "Run Configure" from the "Build" menu, a file named "libtool" gets automatically generated. This file contains a statement as "ECHO="echo"".f we run "Automake", without modifying the "libtool" the system hangs and theputer needs to be restarted.Therefore every time we run "Run Configure" we need to include the line "echo="echo"" below the statement "ECHO="echo"" manually.I think a script can be written which does the above on its own.I am not a shell script programmer, I know the good tutorials for shell scripts are available on the net, but learning scripting only for this task would be time-consuming and painful.
how to get xsane to scan a document and have it display as a full 8.5x11 sized document instead of something half that size? I've been trying and trying and can't seem to figure it out.
I am having troubles getting used to the new Ubuntu UI - Unity. One thing that bugs me is that I don't know how to find a program if I don't know the program's name. For example I remember I have an IRC client but I don't remember its name and its name does not contain IRC. Before I had Unity, programs were organised in categories, so to find the irc I just looked in the Internet category. The same happened to me with the writer program and others..Can anyone tell me how I can find a program by its category? I was surprised that I could not many complaints like mine on the web. I don't want to give up and go back to the old gnome cause I figure that there is just a learning curve to pass and beside there are some feature in it that I like.
I've installed Wine and Spotify in UNE 10.04 and everything's fine, but how can I get an icon into one of the app category tabs? Also, when this page references a script for 'Opening spotify URIs from browsers' can I alternatively just enter those lines into Terminal?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with Chromium (5.0.375) as my main browser. I've installed totem-pps as described in the instruction I found. There are number of problems: I cannot see the category list of video (on the sidebar) When using Chrome to open pps:// based uri in PPS movie index site, it failed without an error message.
Anyone have better documentation or an update to the this version of the file Tomcat HOWTO openSUSE as that document is referencing 10.2. Or a document for use with SLED.
I have Timidity++ 2.12.0 in Windows and a Soundfont customized by myself named Collection.sf2. everything I had to write in Timidity.cfg file was:
dir ctimidity dir ctimiditysndfont soundfont Collection.sf2
And just with that Timidity recognizes all presets in all banks of my soundfont. (This soundfont has more than 600 presets in more than 30 different banks.) I tried Timidity++ 2.13 for Windows with the same soudnfont and cfg file and it didn't work. 2.13 version recognized only the 127 presets of the first bank. so I went back to 2.12.0 version. The same now happens when I installed Timidity in Opensuse. etc/timidity.cfg file points to /usr/share/timidity/timidity.cfg file. In this last file I wrote the following:
dir /home/fernando/Soundfonts soundfont Collection.sf2
I connected Rosegarden to Timidity and tried presets from several banks that use to be recognized automatically when I connect Rosegarden to Qsynth. But in Timidity no matter what bank I choose the sound comes only from the presets of the first bank. I tried the same connecting vkybd (a virtual midi keyboard found in multimedia repo) to timidity and even if i choose bank 2, 8, 16... the sound is always from instrumens of bank 0. it seems that Timidity 2.12 was the only version that recognized bank variations automatically just like Qsynth does. I could not succeed in this in any later version, neither in Windows nor in Linux.
I was trying to download 'grisbi' the bank program and I had to stop the download, not I get a message saying E: dpkg was interrupted, you must run 'sudo dpkg--configure-a' to correct the problem E;_cache->open() failed, please report.
I have also tried to d/load KMymoney and I get to the part where it says (extracting files from archive) then I get a box saying Extraction completed successfully then:- open the destination or close
If i close nothing happens when I go to open destination I am taken to a list of files and after that I don't know what to do.
I wanted to see what games there were, but can't seem to find any. So i opened software manager, went to games and so-called install a couple of card games. But I still have no category for games in list of applications.
I'm looking for a method for modifying some jpg photo files last modification date with the corresponding timestamp creation date of each file.The reason is that shotwell import pictures in folders according to last modification date which is stupid on my opinion.
As a photographer I'm constantly taking photos and storing them in folders. Now occasionally I'm using two cameras (either for different settings or an assistant is also taking photos) which means that for one event I can have differently named images.Both cameras have the same time set (which always helps in Windows) but in Ubuntu when trying to sort my folder by date taken I can't.The options I'm given are to sort them: Manually, by Name, by Size, by Type, by Modification date and by Emblem.Now none of those are helpful to me once I've done a few edits to the images.So please if anyone knows, how do you organise a folder with images taken on different cameras by Date Taken rather than Date Edited?
I am using CRON to create a new, blank file, every minute, in a specific location on my web server. After web searching, and reading man pages, I get the impression that the following command is supposed to work:touch /home/mydomain/var/folder/attachments/`date +%H%M`.txtThis should give me a new file with a file name that is the current hour and minute.However, when executed, the CRON mailer reports:touch /home/mydomain/var/folder/attachments/`date +/bin/sh: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching /bin/sh: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of fileSo, it looks like shell is seeing the plus (+) sign as an EOFObviously, nothing get created.What would be the easiest, single line command to create an empty file, at a given location, with a time based file name
Just upgraded from Lenny to squeeze, and noticed that the comment in /etc/fstab, and it says that I should use vol_id to find my UUID, but shouldn't it be blkid? My system can't find vol_id?
WD Caviar Green SATA Hard Drives 1 TB, SATA 3 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache WD Caviar Green 1 TB SATA Hard Drives ( WD10EARS )What will be your comment. I never used WD HD before only Seagate HD. I like this WD HD because it has 64MB cache. Its price is more or less the same as Seagate and other brand HDs of same storage capacity.
Have spend I while searching the net for at PDF annotator for Linux, but can't seem to find any. Most of the forum and blog post I found on the subject suggested different programs, Common for these though, is that they don't do annotations in the pdf, but rather import the pdf as a background for writing on top and then saving your notes separately. This have to problems:
1. You can't comment a pdf and mail it to your co worker. 2. You can't switch between programs freely...
As far as I know the pdf format has capabilities for annotations/comments. So anybody know how to take advantage of this, for note taking? My use for this would mostly be notes on slides during lectures etc.
For some reason, my computer won't read the icon for my "accessories" category. It's in the categories folder and I have icons named "applications-accessories" and "applications-utilities" but it keeps on defaulting to the inherits icon instead. This has happened for a couple of themes I've tried to install, and I can't figure out why.
Well I use Shotwell Photo manager for all my photos and I love the app but I can't comment on the photo for a slideshow. So I want to put around 300 or so photos in a slideshow and put comments on them but I dont want to import each photo individualo to OO presenter.
I've been using openSUSE for some time now 10.x to 11.3, there is always badly translated things. In this case the timezone shows "Ciudad de Mexico" as "Ciduad de Mjico"Just for the comment, other users could find more stuff in the subject
I'm planning to partition a new hard drive to dual-boot Mint+Mepis. I've read partitioning tutorials and posts, and want to check my understanding--I'd appreciate input from an experienced person.For 500GB hard drive, dual-boot Mint+Mepis:
--Mint: / root partition for OS; /home partition for ease of upgrading --Mepis: same as Mint = four partitions
And: /swap partition to be shared between Mint+Mepis /shared partition for shared data = two partitions
Total = six partitions
Since four primary partitions are allowed, I should use three primary partitions and one extended partition containing three logical partitions.Is that correct?If so, what should go where? I assume there's an optimal strategy--Should each /root of Mint+Mepis go in a primary? What should go in the other primary, and in the three logicals? Or maybe I don't need three primaries?--use two primaries and four logicals?
