I am on 10.04 and since yesterday I could manage to apt-get update without any problems.
Here is my sources.lst

# deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100429)]/ lucid main restricted
# See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes for how to upgrade to
# newer versions of the distribution.
After I have installed the 10.04, I found the upgrade manager were not able to connect to the sources. It report an error and said:http://mirrors.163.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid/Release.gpg can't connect to 127.0.0.1:8080 (127.0.0.1)‚ - connect (111: Connection refused)however, my firefox and other applications are able to get access to the internet. (the network interface eth0 is active and works well)
Well I updated from 9.04 to 10.04 and Vuze does not open for me anymore when I click it. Is there anything that got thrown out that I need to install to get it back going for me?
I am using lucid 64bit ubuntu and it seems my auto update function does not work. Since install (on day of release, a clean fresh install) I did not have 1 update, when I check updates manually there are updates.
If I look in /var/lib/apt/periodic there are 2 files on root and 0kb in size: totaal 8,0K drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4,0K 2010-05-01 11:26 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4,0K 2010-06-01 13:40 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-06-01 11:55 update-stamp -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2010-06-01 13:41 update-success-stamp
Is this normal? Is there a fix to get auto update to work?
I have my system set to auto update without asking me: So why does it never do this? All I ever see is that icon pop up in my tray. I still have to manually update ALL THE TIME
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my EEEPC 1000-HA. I don't have a CDROM because it's a netbook. Everytime I try to do an update, Update Manager says that I must insert the Ubuntu CDROM. It gives me no option to change location so that I can use my USB drive. I can't get updates due to this issue. How do I install the needed files so Update Manager can get updates?
when i tried to update Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04, somehow the installation stopped. Thinking that the installation was completed i restarted my desktop, only to find out that i have over 600 broken packages. Fixing the packages don't seem to work because he is unable to correct the dependencies. My guess is that i now have half Ubuntu 10.10 and half Ubuntu 11.04
I just applied the latest updates via update manager, and now Synergy doesn't work right... (was working before the update was applied). Connects, but once the mouse gets to the computer running 10.04 it acts all crazy like and I have no mouse control and a hard time releasing the mouse going back to the server.
I can't seem to get apt-get or the update manager to work consistently since I upgraded to 10.04. First, I get a regular segmentation fault on about a daily basis, I run sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin as I saw in other threads, and then it usually works.
However now anytime I try to update, upgrade or install, I get the following error:
Reading package lists... Error! E: Problem parsing dependency Depends E: Error occurred while processing git-cola (NewVersion1) E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_universe_ binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
I've installed a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 in a new dev machine and have been trying to update the package list only to be frustrated. After the install, I went to terminal and did:
Code: sudo apt-get update with this result:
Code: rbsadmin@daredevil:/var/log$ sudo apt-get update [sudo] password for rbsadmin: Err [URL] Unknown date format [IP: 91.189.88.40 80] ....
I've been using 10.04 for some time, but now Update Manager won't open, nor will Ubuntu Software. With all the apparent problems, I don't plan to upgrade to 10.10, but I do like to keep my OS updated and current.
I have a kind of weird problem on one of our servers. The server software was upgrade a couple times now and it went from 8.04 to 8.10 to 9.04 to 9.10 to eventually 10.04Now I'm 100% sure the current version should be 10.04 but all of the sudden an 'apt-get update' does not work anymore, so I dig some further why that could be...A simple 'cat /etc/lsb-release' gives me this answer
I believe my Update Manager is broken. When I try to launch it through System > Administration > Update Manager, it quickly appears and then disappears. When I try launching it through the terminal, I receive the following message code...
I run an update of ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop and now my mpi programs do not work anymore... The error is [florian-laptop:02935] [[INVALID],INVALID] ORTE_ERROR_LOG: A system-required executable either could not be found or was not executable by this user in file ../../../../../../orte/mca/ess/singleton/ess_singleton_module.c at line 269 [florian-laptop:02935] [[INVALID],INVALID] ORTE_ERROR_LOG: A system-required executable either could not be found or was not executable by this user in file ../../../../../
I got this error message today when i ran sudo update
E: Type 'See' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list E: Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-karmic.list
and i cant burn dvd with brasero also my sis760 doesnt work on this
im trying to switch back to windows but i need to copy the image to a dvd but brasero doesnt work and when ever i use the software center i see nothing under the categories
I've got a double boot system (Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu Maverick). Since I updated Grub2, Grub doesn't work anymore! I'd tried this (because I HAD that error). But since than, I'd a black screen (harddisk didn't anything, and Grub too...) And now, after using a couple of these commands via the Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Live CD I get a mini bash in Grub, but no entry's to one of the two systems! What's wrong, and what do I have to do? (and what did I wrong?
I have some very deep-rooted problems in my system as a result of trying to get pSX, pulseaudio, and flash to all work in harmony after my update from 10.04 to 10.10. I've written about it in other threads, but they never seem to come to conclusion, and the solutions suggested only make things worse.
I'd like to keep my current data while setting sound, flash, and boot options back to the system default for 10.10. In other words, a reinstall without a format.
Is there a way to accomplish this? I have a lot of stuff I really don't want to lose and no way to back it all up.
After upgrading Jaunty to Karmic internet sharing (iptables) stoped working. Nothing in iptables configuration was changed. Computers behind my ubuntu router can ping it, have access to it (apache, samba, etc.). Only internet isnt forwarding. Clients configuration is the same as before upgrade.
Ive just done the latest update ( AFAICT principally an upgraded kernel and firefox stuff)
I reboot the computer and then the perl script that was working whilst the upgrade was going on , now doesn't work , and i get prompted to save the *.pl file
WTF
mea culpa - on rebooting the browser , id left a stray 'print ' before writing the HTML header
I am using Ubuntu 8.04. Most of my Administration functions have stopped working. If I click on Hardware Drivers, Hardware Testing, Log In Window, Software Sources, Synaptic Package Manager, and Windows Wireless Drivers my pointer turns into the timer wheel, so I know it is working, but then it just disappears and nothing happens. When I click on Update Manager my computer freezes. If I try to update through the red Updates Available arrow at the top of my screen my computer freezes. I can update through terminal but the red arrow never goes away. I also have 17 updates that won't update. I have tried them one at a time through terminal but they just freeze the computer. The only way to unfreeze it is to shut the computer down.
When I try to open Synaptic Package Manager and update-manager it gives me the following error message: 'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/banshee-team-ppa-maverick.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.' How to solve this error because my system cannot update or install any new application.
