Ubuntu Installation :: Failure To Update Repository?

Aug 3, 2011

having somewhat of an issue when it comes to updating through Update Manager.

I get "Failed to download repository information Check your Internet connection."

details :W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonoomph/op...source/Sources 404 Not Found, W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/jonoomph/op...-i386/Packages 404 Not Found, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Running 11.04, no major modifications.

I will try to be as helpful as possible.

also, I believe I have a few hard drive faults- I have reformatted several times, but I still have issues in the boot process.

Ubuntu :: VLC Repository Is Way Out Of Date / How To Update Repository

Jan 8, 2011

I've noticed that Synaptic shows VLC 1.0.6 as the latest version of VLC. Except this is not true and 1.0.6 is way out of date. Version 1.0.6 does not even have a REPEAT icon button for the control panel. But newer versions do. Running Windows I can download VLC version 1.1.5 and make use of a REPEAT icon.Is there a way to update the repository? Or a way to tell Ubuntu developers that the VLC repository is way out of date and needs updating? I'm running 10.04 LTS--I thought this was supposed to deliver longterm updates?

Ubuntu Installation :: Repository Of Older Versions Of Server Do Not Work?

Jun 3, 2011

Then the repositories of previous versions are not available? When I install the current version on all packages that I need to back packs and save it for if I need it later.

How do I get the packages and put together a repository itself if others were dashed this is still operating, and maintenance would be needed?

Fedora Installation :: Update 15 - Transaction Error - Check That The Correct Key Urls Are Configured For This Repository

The error reads: GPG keys listed for RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide-free repository are installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key urls are configured for this repository.
This is far too involved for a linux newbie, I think my only option is to reformat and reinstall. This is so frustrating, there are 250 MB of updates available that I can't access.

Fedora Installation :: Error Getting Repository Data For Installed, Repository Not Found

Feb 14, 2010

Today I installed Fedora12 from the DVD, so this is my first contact with all of you. The last years I ran very well with gentoo, but the time for system maintenance got to big the last few times I updated the system, so I decided to change and here am I. The Problem: My system is newly installed from the DVD and I was trying to run the first update, but got the following errormassage by KPackageKit:

Code:
Error Type:
Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found
File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in
main()
File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main
backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:])
File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher
self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:])

[Code]...

It occured after informing me about the amount of packages that need to be updated and a message about some dependencies that have to be newly installed. At the moment I'm a bit lost about what to do. Also I realy don't know which system-information would be useful - let me know and I will answer.

Ubuntu Installation :: Update Manager - Software Center Do Not Work

Jan 13, 2011

Update manager and software center both run, but when I click on "install," they both just sit there and don't respond. If I run software center from a command line, I get the error "WARNING - _on_trans_error: org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.Failed." (There are no updates right now, so I can't get an error from the update manager.) Apparently they aren't invoking gksudo or whatever it is they need to elevate privileges. I can get around this by running them as root, but it is kind of annoying. I'm really surprised that no one else has had this problem, but I've searched it a number of times and I can't find any indication of someone having the same symptoms.

Ubuntu Installation :: Proxy Configuration - Running Apt-get Update Due To A Firewall At Work

Jun 24, 2010

I think I have encountered a problem in the way that lucid handles proxy servers. I was having problems running apt-get update due to a firewall at my work. I also noted that I was getting 403 Forbidden for wget. So I went to System -> Preferences -> Network Proxy from my account (which has administrator privileges) and input the http address for the proxy server, and then clicked the button to "Apply Systemwide...".

Following that change, wget worked from my account, but whenever I tried to sudo apt-get update, I got the 403 forbidden response again, even though I could wget the same files that apt-get reported as forbidden. I figured that this was a problem with the root account, and so I typed

Code:

However, upon exiting from the root account, and trying to run sudo apt-get update again, I got the 403 forbidden code again!

So, it seems that the proxy settings are not being applied systemwide.
