There is running gOS on my computer (Ubuntu baset OS) and I want to install the Video Card driver for ATI RADEON 9250.

Hardware :: Doesn't Support The Video Card ATI Radeon HD4670 Driver

I'm a new Mandriva user, and have no clue about Linux system, but to be honest I don't want to use Windows product anymore. So I got the Mandriva 1 Spring Gnome, and installed it on my DELL Optiplex Desktop, works fine and very fast, therefore I decided to do the same with my Studio XPS 1640,but after I got a dark screen,so I used an external display(My TV) then realized that it doesn't support the video card on it ( ATI Radeon HD4670 ),and I don't know what to do.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Install Server 10.04 On A PPC G4 PowerMac

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a PPC G4 PowerMac.

It took a while, but finally I managed to get through the installation.

Unfortunately, after choosing Ubuntu from the yaboot menu at startup, it takes a moment and then displays a kernel panic about not founding /sbin/init .

Well, /sbin/init is there for sure (I've checked again, using the CD).

I have a fresh install of Lucid on my PowerMac G4 Desktop (PowerMac3,6) / 867MHz. Right now I'm stuck with a resolution of 800x600. From what I have read, I know I need an xorg.conf file (install doesn't create one). I've looked around for a working one - and tried creating my own with no luck. I gather the following information is needed:

Hardware :: Driver For ATI Radeon Integrated Video?

May 17, 2010

Fedora 12, latest kernel, x86_64.

I have an Asus M4A78L-M motherboard that has integrated ATI Radeon HD3000 video. Should I be looking for a driver specific to the integrated video, or should I be looking for a driver specific to the motherboard? I'm not sure if I should look for something different if the video is integrated onto the motherboard, as opposed to a separate video card. This is what I found: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...5&lang=English

Are there best practices for updating video drivers before I make any changes? I don't want to hose my video.

Hardware :: Configure Radeon Video Card ?

Dec 15, 2010

I have installed a 9200 Radeon (the card says 9250 on it, but computer reads as 9200) on a AMD Sempron 2500+ 64 bit,Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome 2.30.2, Kernel Linux 2.6.32-26; Samsung VGA 941BW monitor.

A friend told me if I added more RAM (512mb), the card would run properly & the graphics would be stellar.

He also told me the drivers were installed.

When I did this & started the computer, before I got to my login, a box appeared, telling me my graphics were running in "Low Mode", & do I want to configure them. When I said "Yes", it told me to restart. When I did, nothing happened & the video card is still running on "low". I checked the fglrx info, and was told "command not found".

Slackware :: ATI Radeon X700 DRI / ATI Card Configuration/driver?

May 11, 2010

I am setting up a system that I was recently given and am having some problems with the ATI card configuration/driver (I think).

THE SYSTEM

System is P4 3.0Ghz, 1GB RAM, 200GB SATA with new full install of Slackware 13, Fluxbox WM/DE.

Code:
lspci lines:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV410 [Radeon X700 Pro (PCIE)]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV410 [Radeon X700 Pro (PCIE)] (Secondary)
I have read a lot of things that seem confusing to me, but I have set it up mostly with info from slackwiki.org, and after reading various threads here at LQ.

I am using an xorg.conf created with Xorg -configure, with the radeon driver and have added the DRI section and enabled options per the above URL.

THE SYMPTOMS

First, X starts and I can run glxgears and get a frame rate of 3100+.

But glxinfo seems incorrect:

Code:
glxinfo |grep -i render
GL_RENDERER: Mesa DRI R300 20060815 x86/MMX/SSE2 TCL
I see no "direct rendering: yes" as seems to be required (am I missing something?).

Most things seem to work such as video playback from DVD and Flash.

At boot the vesa modes do not work and I have to use vga=normal, which is no big problem, although a better framebuffer mode would be nice if possible.

But the first big problem I hit is running Blender. When it starts my screen goes blank with just the mouse cursor visible and moving. To get out of this I can kill X or ctl-alt-Fx to get a new login and kill the blender process. Oddly, I found I can also alt-F2 (Open a Run dialog in Fluxbox) which opens with a running Blender behind it - but any attempt to interact with the blender window reverts to the blank screen with mouse cursor.

I believe this to be due to the lack of DRI mostly because of a similar problem once encountered on another system - but am open to other suggestions.

But I think I need to better understand and configure the drivers for this video card before troubleshooting any applications.

So, I guess my questions would be:

1. Is the radeon driver the best choice for this card?
2. Are there advantages/disadvantages to using the ATI driver instead? (Is there a slackbuild for the proprietary driver?)
3. Can someone point me to any better sources of info for ATI cards/drivers used under Slackware?

Ubuntu :: Video Card Swap - Screen Using A Default Video Driver

Jan 25, 2011

If I take out the existing video card and put in another one of a different type (but not a different brand), how does Ubuntu behave? I know what Windows typically does. Windows starts up the screen using a default video driver which is at least 1024 by 768 and then asks you what this new bit of hardware is and asks where the drivers are. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu has default drivers of its own, but I don't know what their resolution is.

Debian Hardware :: Power Mac G5 And Radeon X1900 Video Card

Aug 27, 2011

I'm attempting to get Debian (Squeeze, latest net-install CD) working on a Power Mac G5 Quad with a Radeon X1900 Mac edition video card (PCI-Express.) The installer acted a bit weird right from the start, telling me that the step "Install the system" failed (with nothing in the way of useful error information,) but I got the base system installed at least. It booted fine to framebuffer console, so I set about installing GNOME on it. apt finished with nary a complaint, but when I rebooted, I found that when it's ready to launch into X, it chokes up and just sits there with a blank screen and a cursor. (Weirdly, though, the screen itself flickers on and off at a high rate, faster than the actual cursor blink.)

Framebuffer console still works, at least, so I was able to boot into single-user mode and do some investigating in my own limited capacity for this stuff (by which I mean "Google error messages and see what specifics are requested.") lspci -k shows the video card properly with the manufacturer and product name, so it is recognizing it, at least. When I try Xorg -configure, though (Xorg 1.7.7, it says,) it aborts with a "No DRICreatePCIBusID symbol" message. Checking dmesg gives me a "process Xorg mapped non-existing PCI legacy memory" message, followed by an "invalid ROM contents" message underneath.

I'm not sure what all to make of this. I've found a thread about problems getting the same basic setup (G5 Quad, X1900, Debian) to work, but it's a couple years old and the symptoms are different. There's some discussion there about the radeon/radeonhd driver looking for Atom BIOS information on non-Atom BIOS cards, which would explain the "invalid ROM contents" message, but on the other hand, if lspci recognizes the card properly, would that be the problem? I don't know. Obviously it's playing nicely enough to run framebuffer console output properly, but beyond that I have no idea. I'd really like to get this working - it'd really improve things over the GeForce 6600 it came with...

Ubuntu / Apple :: Manual Installation On Already Created Partition To Create Dual Booting PowerMac?

Jul 15, 2010

I have booted from the .iso cd I made on my Mac last night and was tempted to install it on a 6gb partition that I have on my main HDD but was a bit scared to go past the fourth (or so) step in manual installing where I pick that partition and *do what?* Is it going to install the OS on that partition and leave everything else alone to give me a dual booting PowerMac? It doesn't quite say. I am fearful of screwing up my little ol' machine. Can anyone direct me to something that gives a step by step in manual installation on an already created (HFC+) partition to create a dual booting PowerMac?

The video is very garbled and hard to read. can't seem to find a way to correct what would appear to be a driver issue. Here are a list of things tried:

- display works fine with Ubuntu

- display is clear but is chopped off when using an external monitor from onboard vga slot

The video card is an ATI radeon and the linux drivers from the ATI site don't work with the new images that are out yet.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Radeon 4670 Ati Driver - Graphics Card Recommendation?

Mar 13, 2010

I recently bought a HIS HD 4670 IceQ card but can't get it to work in openSUSE 11.2 Under Windows the card works fine, so I assume there is no hardware problem. I tried this card in two computers with different mainboards, but it does not work. Several times I reinstalled openSUSE completely from scratch (tried both 32bit and 64bit versions) but no luck. The problem: Right after the installation it uses the radeonhd driver. This basically works, but without 3D (no Tuxracer...) and even 2D is slow (dragging around windows on the desktop is slow, page scrolling in firefox also).

Then I tried to install the ati proprietary driver, both from rpm (the rpm's from the "official" ati repository have a checksum error, as already mentioned in another thread!), and by downloading the driver from AMD and running the install script. The install script seems to work successfully. The kernel module is compiled and loaded. "aticonfig --initial" makes a rudimentary xorg.conf. But then, when starting X, it does not work:

- on one of the 2 tested systems, even kdm does not start, the screen simply stays black with a frozen cursor top left, even CTRL+ALT+backspace doesn't do anything - on the other system, kdm starts and shows the login screen, but when trying to start KDE kwin crashes, and the windows have no title bar (when I googled for this symptome I found lots of people also having this problem...) - trying to configure the system using sax2 didn't help, even sax2 doesn't display properly I have now spent 4 days trying to get this to work and now I'm really tired of those buggy graphics drivers, be it proprietary or open source...

Can anyone recommend me a graphics card that is approximately as powerful as the radeon 4670 (I bought this card because it is said to be the most economical card (both in price and energy consumption) that allows to play Anno 1404 reasonably well on windows), but is known to work in openSUSE 11.2, even in 3D mode (tuxracer...)?

Debian Hardware :: X Not Working On PowerMac G5 With NVidia Card

Sep 8, 2011

I have recently tried to install Debian 6 on a PowerMac G5 that we had lying around. The system installs fine and will boot to a command line, but when the installation was complete and X tried to start (using the default configuration--which I believe specified the 'nouveau' driver) the screen went completely blank and no amount of button-pushing could get me back to even a tty. I did here the standard noise that gdm3 makes when the login window is ready, so this is solely a display issue. Plus, [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[F1] followed by [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Delete] did reboot cleanly so the system didn't hang. I booted from the CD into recovery mode and switched the default X driver to vesa (I had to install it), which, I understand, is supposed to work for everyone. However, nothing worked! I did get one step better: the vesa driver brought me back to the terminal when it crashed, instead of the nouveau's bad habit of stopping the display from working completely. I haven't got the full log files because it would be a pain to mail them to a computer with a working web browser (although I will if needed), but I did see the following messages in the output:

(II) VESA(0): initializing int10

( followed by a backtrace )

Bus error at address 0xf79fd000
