Ubuntu / Apple :: Trackpad Not Working After Waking Up From Sleep On Natty?

May 15, 2011

I have had a issue with the trackpad not working (cursor does not move, does not click) after I wake up my MacBook Pro 4,1 from sleep. I am pretty sure this is an X issue and not a driver issue because if I log out the trackpad works again. This is also sporadic. Sometimes it occurs, sometimes it does not. Is there some configuration I need to set to fix this?

I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my MBP4,1. Whenever I wake the laptop from sleep the trackpad seems to freeze up. Everything else works - I can use the keyboard to switch through programs and interact with them, but I can't move the trackpad at all.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Trackpad Not Working On Macbook Pro 5,3 After Update To 11?

May 25, 2011

I have a dual-booting MacBook 5,3 which I was running 10 on with no trouble. I just upgraded to 11, and the trackpad doesn't work at all - no clicks, no movement. I've restarted several times - no change. Any ideas as to what I can do?I did play with my drivers a bit in 10 to get the trackpad to behave a bit more smoothly - but that was a while ago, and I'm not sure exactly what I can do.

Ubuntu / Apple :: No Wireless Networks Shown - Trackpad Not Working

Jan 10, 2010

I recently used BootCamp on my MacBook (2.1) to partition my hdd and install Ubuntu (karmic), and I am having trouble with the wireless connection. On the mac partition it works fine, but on Ubuntu there are no wireless networks shown in the network-dialog. Previously I had only a Linux-partition on the same machine, and this was not a problem. Also the trackpad does not work at all. Does anyone know what to do about the network connection? Also I should mention that I first installed the AMD64-version of Ubuntu, which worked fine even though my macbook uses intel. Im tempted to just go back to the amd-version, any views on that?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Keyboard And Trackpad Not Working Properly After Upgrade

May 6, 2010

My keboard was working perfectly (backlight, inverse FN) until upgrade from karmic to lucid. Now neither backlight neither inverting FN (in pommed.conf) works- backlight is always off, FN is default OSX-like.
Trackpad worked "almost superb" (missing click with one finger and drag with another!!) but after upgrade (=no mode udev) event number changes with every reboot so I cannot put configuration based on /dev/input/eventX to Xorg.conf. How can I make it have the same number after reboot now?

Ubuntu Networking :: WPA Authentication Fails After Waking From Sleep Vs. DLink?

Jan 14, 2011

At home in Guangzhou, I have no problem connecting to a WPA-secured wireless router. Now I'm on vacation in another city trying to use a dLink DI-624 router. If I connect immediately after reboot, no problem. If I suspend the session and then wake the machine up again, it will try to connect and then tell me WPA authentication failed. This happens both with network manager and wicd.sysinfo says the network controller is an Atheros AR9285 (ethernet is Realtek RTL8101E/8102E, probably not relevant).Since everything works correctly with routers other than the dLink, I'd have to guess it's not a general wireless configuration problem, nor a wireless card malfunction. Maybe some bad handshaking that manifests only after waking from sleep?More out of curiosity -- I'll only be here for a few weeks and a wired connection is readily available. But, say I end up in a hotel somewhere that uses dLink for WiFi

Ubuntu / Apple :: 10.10 Trackpad On MacBook7,1?

Jan 20, 2011

I tried Ubuntu 10.10 on my MacBook, but I had a few problems. They, surprisingly, were not the problems most people have.

1) The trackpad had the "Tap to Click" setting on, but I couldn't find out how to change it.

2) The clicking was only right click.

I also had a few other problems that I will mention, but you aren't obligated to answer them:

1) I couldn't find my wireless network.

2) BootCamp isn't partitioning, so I can't really install Ubuntu.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Magic Trackpad Not Auto Connecting?

May 23, 2011

I have an HP 6735s laptop that I have connected an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic Trackpad to via bluetooth on 11.04.

When I login the keyboard automatically connects via bluetooth (once the gnome-bluetooth applet boots), however, I need to manually go into the applet and click connect for the trackpad. I can then run a script to start touchegg.

How I do set up the trackpad to auto-connect? I am guessing the built-in trackpad on the laptop is overriding it?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Trackpad Disabled On Macbook Pro 7 , 1 / Resolve This?

Sep 1, 2011

I am using a 64-bit version of Ubuntu 10.10 on my Intel Macbook Pro 7,1, and I am having trouble with the trackpad. At first, it was working fine. But for some reason now, it only works about a minute after I start into Ubuntu, and then the cursor movement with the trackpad is disabled. However, I can still do mouse clicks with the trackpad, but to move the cursor I have to use a USB mouse. I am not sure what's causing this. I followed the instructions for installing Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro, so all the correct drives should be installed.

Ubuntu / Apple :: How To Natty On A MacBook Pro 5,2

Dec 29, 2010

Introduction: I wrote a very extensive and quantified tutorial and informational guide aiming to upgrade the latent information from the wiki's on MacBook Pro 5,2. An accidental toe tap ended with me bumping my head and pressing the X button on firefox. What happen had to be 1 out of a billionth of a chance. So this version will be simple and to the point, until I can muster enough patience to detail it all out again. Please correct any errors.

sudo apt-get install pommed - To get backlight keyboard working.
sudo apt-get install cheese - To get iSight working.
sudo apt-get install lirc - to get remote working (tested in XBMC)
sudo apt-get install bluemon - Pairs Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keyboard (optional)

Ubuntu / Apple :: Macbook Pro 7-1 Freezing On Natty?

Jun 15, 2011

As of recently, both Natty and Maverick have been freezing on my Macbook Pro 7,1 (mid 2010), to the point that I have to force shutdown (which I can't stand doing). It happens every <10 minutes, sometimes less than 2 minutes from booting. It's frustrating beyond belief, usually because I'm in the middle of something when it happens.

I think it might be related to my wireless card, as I've had problems with it before on this machine. I'd attach kernel logs, but I don't want to boot into Ubuntu again on that machine.

I can usually predict when it will happen, because I'm using browsing the web on Chromium and all of a sudden it will get stuck on "Sending request...." when trying to load something. After that point, I'm screwed. If I try turning off the wireless, it freezes. If I try restarting, it'll hang on shutdown.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Installing Natty Powerpc Through Usb With Openfirmware?

Apr 17, 2011

I have a first gen mac mini g4 with a non-functioning cdrom drive and no mac os installation in place. I'm attempting to install natty (really any ubuntu OS that will work) through an external usb drive. The only functional machine at my disposal for preparing and partitioning the external usb drive is a seperate intel ubuntu box. I understand that I need to create an Apple_Bootstrap partition with yaboot installed inside so openfirmware can recognize the usb drive as bootable.

how do I create an Apple_Bootstrap partition on my external usb drive through a regular x86 ubuntu box? is "mac-disk" or pdisk commands available for x86 machines if not how or where could I find software to do the job?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Macbook 8,1 - Natty / Grub 2 Does Not Install?

Jun 20, 2011

I am able to install 11.04 (64bit) on my MBP, but after installation I cannot boot into it.[URL]...

Quote:

This information will not work for iMac (11,1) users installing recent versions of Ubuntu (e.g., Maverick). The presence of the bios-grub partition that the Ubuntu installer creates by default (e.g., sda3) causes a conflict that prevents syncing the GPT and MBR partition tables. Deleting sda3 does not help since grub2 requires that bios-grub partition, nor will it use either sda or sda4 aborting with the error: "This GPT partition table has no BIOS boot partition; embedding won't be possible!". So installing Ubuntu with the bios-grub partition fails and installing without it fails. See "Single-Boot". And this seems to be the problem, as trying to re-install grub from the live-cd results in that error message. Looking at this forum there are a lot of people running ubuntu on the same laptop, so my question is: How??

Ubuntu / Apple :: Natty Install Changed Partition Scheme (MacbookPro 8,1)?

May 5, 2011

i was experiencing slow start ups since i installed ubuntu 11.04. it took about 20-30sec for the apple logo to come up (or rEFIt). today apple released EFI firmware updates which doesn't seem to install. reason is that the partition scheme is not compatible. EFI Firmware updates only install from GUID partition schemes.
DiskUtility tells me i have MBR. So it seems like Ubuntu changed the Partition Scheme.

Can any body confirm that? how can i make sure ubuntu installs into existing GUID? i will re-partition later today and give you an update if the EFI firmware update installs and boot time is faster.

Ubuntu :: 10.04.1 Screensaver, DPMS, And Sleep Not Working?

Mar 10, 2011

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 32-bit on a Dell Optiplex GX280 with Intel P4 3.4GHz, 1GB ram, 40GB hard drive, it's connected to a 17" CRT monitor which was detected automatically. Anyways, I set screensaver to come on after 15 minutes, monitor to shut off after 30 minutes and computer to go to sleep after an hour idle. The screensaver came on and monitor shut off as desired but the computer wouldn't go to sleep. So I manually put it to sleep (clicked "Suspend") and it went down and came back up just fine.I then did a few other things like installed java, flash, vlc player and I noticed that the screensaver won't even come on now. What is going on???Running:

Code:sudo lshwshows under display: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller. Again the screensaver and DPMS WERE working, but they aren't now. I don't understand why Ubuntu isn't doing what I asked it to do in Preferences. it's very frustrating
