Debian Installation :: Acer C720 Trackpad Not Working?
Aug 29, 2015
I just installed version 8.1 on my c720 and everything works out of the box except the track pad. I am new to Linux so I am lost on how to check for the correct drivers or any other solution.
I have heard that the newer kernel versions added built in support but I am not sure if changing that will cause compatibility problems with any other program that I install later.

Parted Magic doesn't detect the SSD for some reason. I've been trying to install ANY form of Linux onto my chromebook, wiping the SSD first and then installing Linux to it. For the last few months actively trying to do so, all has failed. I decided to get an m.2 connector that plugins into a gpu slot to connect it to my desktop (the SSD is micro-sized...) and it fits perfectly, but when opening Parted Magic from a simple USB drive, all my devices show up except my SSD.
Previously, the installations of Linux onto my Chromebook have always failed with a "not enough memory" message, trying all solutions found online and responding to other's posts, they suggested me to do this since they can't see the problem either. I never knew a basic wipe on an SSD, and installation of Linux would be so difficult. Everyone online says "it's so easy even without crouton" and is plug-in-play essentially. No, it is not.

I'm using Ubuntu on my Lenovo laptop which has a pointer mouse and trackpadt looks exactly like this:How do I disable just the trackpad, but not the red pointer mouse or the buttons above/below the trackpad.I did do a search and found a file I can download, but isn't there a keystroke or something built into Ubuntu that would avoid me having to download a third party solution.

I tried to create an xorg.conf because I didn't have one already. I put the configuration for the synaptics touchpad in it and in the gnome preferences/mouse my touchpad actually was recognized by its name. But still it didn't work :/ I tried deleting my xorg.conf and making a xorg.conf.d directory with synaptics.conf because I saw someone recommend it in another thread. But now the gnome/mouse settings doesn't see it and it still doesn't work. I've read several threads from Arch Linux's forums saying it may be that the module is loaded twice, but I really have no idea.
Here's the /proc/bus/input/devices:
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Packard Bell laptop and I'm having some trouble with the trackpad and keyboard. At the login screen they both work fine, I can move the cursor and type in my password. But after I login they both immediately stop working and I have to use a USB mouse and keyboard.

I have a dual-booting MacBook 5,3 which I was running 10 on with no trouble. I just upgraded to 11, and the trackpad doesn't work at all - no clicks, no movement. I've restarted several times - no change. Any ideas as to what I can do?I did play with my drivers a bit in 10 to get the trackpad to behave a bit more smoothly - but that was a while ago, and I'm not sure exactly what I can do.

I recently used BootCamp on my MacBook (2.1) to partition my hdd and install Ubuntu (karmic), and I am having trouble with the wireless connection. On the mac partition it works fine, but on Ubuntu there are no wireless networks shown in the network-dialog. Previously I had only a Linux-partition on the same machine, and this was not a problem. Also the trackpad does not work at all. Does anyone know what to do about the network connection? Also I should mention that I first installed the AMD64-version of Ubuntu, which worked fine even though my macbook uses intel. Im tempted to just go back to the amd-version, any views on that?

My keboard was working perfectly (backlight, inverse FN) until upgrade from karmic to lucid. Now neither backlight neither inverting FN (in pommed.conf) works- backlight is always off, FN is default OSX-like.
Trackpad worked "almost superb" (missing click with one finger and drag with another!!) but after upgrade (=no mode udev) event number changes with every reboot so I cannot put configuration based on /dev/input/eventX to Xorg.conf. How can I make it have the same number after reboot now?

I have had a issue with the trackpad not working (cursor does not move, does not click) after I wake up my MacBook Pro 4,1 from sleep. I am pretty sure this is an X issue and not a driver issue because if I log out the trackpad works again. This is also sporadic. Sometimes it occurs, sometimes it does not. Is there some configuration I need to set to fix this?

I switch over from old laptop to a new one. This one has now a multitouch touchpad wich annoys me. With my old laptop i could select a text and paste it with middle mouse button or with 2 buttons enabled from the touchpad.
Now i moved my existing ssd drive from my old laptop to my new one, so the software and configuration is the same.
I can pasting nothing anymore by pushing in left&right on the touchpad. Due the multitouch i presume? Copy/Paste aint working anymore with urxvt. I would like to get this behaviour back because it's plain simple, fast and works almost everywhere.
C/P Still works with the middle mouse buttons but i don't use a mouse all the time.
How to get pasting work with multitouch?

trying to get debian working on an apple 12" aluminium powerbook from summer 2005. Right now, I am specifically trying to get the touchpad to work. Googling and searching the forums suggests that I need the appletouch module. I believe I already have this as it is now compiled into the kernel. I believe that I'm also supposed to get this to work properly with the synaptics driver. I've installed the synaptics input for X. I've also got pbbuttonsd though this doesn't seem to affect the trackpad even though there is a setting for it.
Right now, I can move with the touchpad but I cannot do anything else. I cannot tap to click and I cannot use, for example, two finger scroll. This is very frustrating because I'm so used to doing these things that I keep doing them expecting them to work any time I'm in a GUI environment! If I kill the display manager and x server and run Xorg -configure as root, Xorg always crashes so I've had no luck producing a base xorg configure file which I believe I probably need to edit.
I'm not currently using gnome. I've installed both lxde and xfce to see which I like best although I'm not sure this was wise because I'm confused about how to switch between them. When I tried ubuntu 10.04, the trackpad also partially worked. In that case, it was almost impossible to move with it, difficult but not impossible to tap and very easy to scroll. The trackpad works perfectly in os x so it isn't a hardware issue. (Ubuntu 10.04 ran like treacle even with no applications beyond gnome running - hence my not installing gnome.)
Debian's wiki has a (very, very brief) section on installing on a 12" powerbook which points to [URL] for powerbooks after february 2005 such as mine. But this page seems very out of date and to discuss an older version of the driver before it was included in the kernel. It also pre-dates support for airport extreme wifi etc. So it isn't helping much because I'm not sure what, if anything, might still be applicable.
Right now, pbbuttonsd tells me that it has no clients when I pass -listclients to the command-line interface. trackpad show says there is no trackpad. xfce's settings pane for mice shows a total of no fewer than four devices: my logitech mouse; the trackpad which it believes is another mouse; an xtest device of some sort; and mac mouse emulation. I'm not sure what the last two of these refer to.I realise as I write this that I'm not really sure what information might be relevant so if it is not included, perhaps somebody could let me know what I should add. Version of debian is stable (squeeze). PPC is a 7450 (G4 PowerMac 6,8) 1.5 GHz 512kB L2 cache 167 MHz bus with 1.25GB RAM.

Didn't see a guide on this on the wiki. Correct me if I'm wrong and feel free to add some tips. (Keep in mind that I am a total beginner with Linux)This computer comes with Windows 7, which I seek to wholly replace, not partition. More info on the computer can be found here-Download Squeeze Installer (don't know which source to use or if I'll pay for a Live CD or Live DVD)-Install Debian Squeeze-Restart computer-Set up Squeeze/KDE-Use Squeeze-Compute happily ever afterJust have to ask, what do I do about about wifi connectivity? It seems that certain Aspires have trouble connecting to wifi when Debian has been installed and I really need to be able to use the 'Net with my lappy. Where would those drivers/firmware be found?

I've tried the script at [URL] .... modules.sh (via: [URL] .... , step 5) which works for some chromebook owners, but not for me.
Are there any other things I can try to get my trackpad working, or is it simply unsupported at this time? It works with chromeos + crouton, but I'd prefer to just have Debian.

in compliance with bonekracker's advice, i have reposted my SOS. i have the result of the outputs of the commands for ifconfig, iwconfig, and etc i have uploaded it in the file output.doc. i hope this would be helpful in debugging my problem.but before that, i do notice that if i click on the icon for the Network Manager, the Wireless networks is set to 'wireless disabled'. maybe if i can make it turn on, my wireless problem will be solved.. its just that i even if i move the switch for the wifi, it still wouldn't turn on.

While installing the openSuSE on my Netbook (Acer AspireOne D250) with a bootable thumbdrive Live image, the installation seemed to go fine, but after the installation was completed, there was no "network"! I checked and the system auto-sensed the drivers, but when I go into the network, even trying to manually set up the IP info, Yast reports NO NETWORK running!!
I then went out and bought a USB CD-ROM drive and installed using the boot CD (Network install) on the external USB CD-ROM drive. It booted up fine, and installed "RIGHT OFF OF THE NETWORK", but when the install was through, I could not access the network. Same error: NO NETWORK RUNNING!! Now I've installed openSuSE on this unit before (v11.4) and it worked fine (after I changed the wireless driver to the legacy driver) but this time it's NOT working!! My 13yr old son uses the Netbook, and was so excited to get to use LINUX instead of Windows ... until now.

I just got new netbook for christmas and so I promptly set it up with a dual boot system cause Windows 7 starter is garbage.Anyways after ditching the Netbook Remix because quite frankly I found the Unity setup to be quite garbage. Nothing worked the way I wanted it to and I found it quite annoying. So I ditched it for the regular desktop version. I quickly found that the battery indicator didn't work.
I removed and re added the indicator panel. Nothing. killed the gnome panel and restarted it multiple times. still nothing. Restarted multiple times. nothing. I even reinstalled gnome-power-management to no avail. I also installed laptop-mode-tools and nothing has worked. I went into the power settings and set it to always display the icon and it simply showed a lightning bolt as if there was no battery and it was a tower computer.

This bug has been around for years now?!? Surely this can be fixed by now, would somebody please feel this very common issue. I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Acer Aspire One 110AB netbook and everything seems to work fine except the wireless - I can connect via ethernet no problem.
While the wireless can scan for networks - it seems them but they seem to be rather weak signals and also no matter never connect UNLESS I turn off ALL WEP/WPA security clearly not an option.

I had UBR installed and working fine for a month or so, wireless and everything. Then I did a clean re-install while trying to add WinXP to half of my drive.Anyway, with the new install, my wireless chip (BCM4312 802.11b/g) isn't switching on at all. I've tried installing the Broadcom driver that appears when I run Hardware Drivers, but that doesn't help. With the old install, the wireless switch and indicator light on the front of the netbook worked, now nothing.

i recently installed ubuntu on my netbook, an acer aspireone. got everything running properly. at first i had a problem with using webcam online for sites using flash 10 (facebook, videos, tinychat), but someone directed me to the adobe control panel and after setting some permissions, everything was working fine. yesterday, i installed a bunch of updates, and since then the built-in microphone stopped working in chat.
the microphone still works if i record audio or use it in other applications. but for all of the sites using flash for video chat (listed above) i can only get the camera working, not the mic. i don't get any error messages or anything different from before. the only difference is that no sound is coming through. i wish i knew which updates i've installed yesterday. one of them must have caused the problem, since it was working fine before then.

My sd slot is not working at all, doesn't recognize it. I think it may have something to do with having the desktop version installed but I could be wrong. I have tried three different sd cards and they all work in my other laptop with Windows 7.

My Acer's Wireless randomly stops working until you fully shut down and start the computer.(Not Restart but Shutdown->Powebutton) I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.
I am wondering if anyone knows why it would stop working properly, and/or how to fix it?
And since this is a off and on problem I might not be able to provide details immediately from time of crash, since I need my computer on the wireless.
One symptom that really stands out is that the cooling fan is spinning as fast as it possibly can and processor usage is spiking around 80/200 on a process called phy0.(relevancy unknown)
As I was typing this post on my other computer, my laptop crashed and I lost the lshw -C Network output I had. If asked to, I will post the one from when it is working. Also I will post any other info you need from when I can.

My problem with UBUNTU is that I can not use acer-wmi because I get this ERROR :
Code:
... so I can not use the acer_wmi . But this is not my only Problem :
It is most likely caused of the missing " Firmware " / Driver for my WLAN Card ( Internal ) . Currently I use Ubuntu 10.10 but I tested 10.04 too before 10.10 and it found my Card but not the Button .
So I want to know if there is any solution for my problem .
If it is important :
I use an Acer eMachines e525 with Windows Vista Home Basic ( Pimped up ) and Wubi . I saw a lot of people with simmilar problems they have it as only boot option .
