Ubuntu / Apple :: No Wireless Networks Shown - Trackpad Not Working

Jan 10, 2010

I recently used BootCamp on my MacBook (2.1) to partition my hdd and install Ubuntu (karmic), and I am having trouble with the wireless connection. On the mac partition it works fine, but on Ubuntu there are no wireless networks shown in the network-dialog. Previously I had only a Linux-partition on the same machine, and this was not a problem. Also the trackpad does not work at all. Does anyone know what to do about the network connection? Also I should mention that I first installed the AMD64-version of Ubuntu, which worked fine even though my macbook uses intel. Im tempted to just go back to the amd-version, any views on that?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Trackpad Not Working On Macbook Pro 5,3 After Update To 11?

May 25, 2011

I have a dual-booting MacBook 5,3 which I was running 10 on with no trouble. I just upgraded to 11, and the trackpad doesn't work at all - no clicks, no movement. I've restarted several times - no change. Any ideas as to what I can do?I did play with my drivers a bit in 10 to get the trackpad to behave a bit more smoothly - but that was a while ago, and I'm not sure exactly what I can do.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Keyboard And Trackpad Not Working Properly After Upgrade

May 6, 2010

My keboard was working perfectly (backlight, inverse FN) until upgrade from karmic to lucid. Now neither backlight neither inverting FN (in pommed.conf) works- backlight is always off, FN is default OSX-like.
Trackpad worked "almost superb" (missing click with one finger and drag with another!!) but after upgrade (=no mode udev) event number changes with every reboot so I cannot put configuration based on /dev/input/eventX to Xorg.conf. How can I make it have the same number after reboot now?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Trackpad Not Working After Waking Up From Sleep On Natty?

May 15, 2011

I have had a issue with the trackpad not working (cursor does not move, does not click) after I wake up my MacBook Pro 4,1 from sleep. I am pretty sure this is an X issue and not a driver issue because if I log out the trackpad works again. This is also sporadic. Sometimes it occurs, sometimes it does not. Is there some configuration I need to set to fix this?

Ubuntu / Apple :: 10.10 Trackpad On MacBook7,1?

Jan 20, 2011

I tried Ubuntu 10.10 on my MacBook, but I had a few problems. They, surprisingly, were not the problems most people have.

1) The trackpad had the "Tap to Click" setting on, but I couldn't find out how to change it.

2) The clicking was only right click.

I also had a few other problems that I will mention, but you aren't obligated to answer them:

1) I couldn't find my wireless network.

2) BootCamp isn't partitioning, so I can't really install Ubuntu.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Magic Trackpad Not Auto Connecting?

May 23, 2011

I have an HP 6735s laptop that I have connected an Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Magic Trackpad to via bluetooth on 11.04.

When I login the keyboard automatically connects via bluetooth (once the gnome-bluetooth applet boots), however, I need to manually go into the applet and click connect for the trackpad. I can then run a script to start touchegg.

How I do set up the trackpad to auto-connect? I am guessing the built-in trackpad on the laptop is overriding it?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Trackpad Disabled On Macbook Pro 7 , 1 / Resolve This?

Sep 1, 2011

I am using a 64-bit version of Ubuntu 10.10 on my Intel Macbook Pro 7,1, and I am having trouble with the trackpad. At first, it was working fine. But for some reason now, it only works about a minute after I start into Ubuntu, and then the cursor movement with the trackpad is disabled. However, I can still do mouse clicks with the trackpad, but to move the cursor I have to use a USB mouse. I am not sure what's causing this. I followed the instructions for installing Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro, so all the correct drives should be installed.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Broadcom 4312 IMac 4,1 Wireless Not Working.

Jun 23, 2010

When I first had partitioned, and formatted appropriately, I installed the newest version of Ubuntu available (Time of posting 10.4), on the partition made with bootcamp, rebooted into Linux with rEFIt Now once I booted into 10.4 I got to the desktop, it started asking me about restricted hardware drivers, so I went into System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, It then searched for the drivers, it found the STA driver, and the B43 driver, I am unable to allow both. So I went on to try ndiswrapper, I downloaded it off another pc, compiled and installed on the iMac. then I got the driver off the Leopard install disk, put that on my flash drive, extracted the files from the installer, put that on the flash drive, then I went back over to the machine in question, copied the file to the desktop, I used the cd command to navigate to the folder, then ran ndiswrapper -i bmcwl6.inf, I made sure that the inf and sys files were in there, so I didn't know what was going on exactly.

So then I went into the software sources, and enabled the cd as a software source, then went into Synaptic, and installed the drivers, it said the install was successful, however when I go back to enable it, will still refuse to activate, I have looked all around for solutions, I have even checked out other threads on this matter. The funny thing seems to be, is that everyone, or almost everyone who has this card on their computer, are upgrading to 10.04, when it worked on a previous version.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Sound Not Working Properly Or The Wireless Card Not Being Supported

I was curious if anyone has dual booted Ubuntu on this model iMac, (Mid 2011 with 4gb ram, 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor, the current model in the apple store).

When I dual booted on my MacBook I came across a plethora of problems, such as the sound not working properly or the wireless card not being supported.

Does anyone know if these same problems exist for the iMac or is everything business as usual?

Ubuntu Networking :: No Longer See Any Networks Under "Wireless Networks"?

Jan 7, 2010

I could use Wireless network. I could see several different networks in my range. Then suddenly the network stoppedworking, and I can no longer see any networks under "Wireless networks".The Wired networks works fine.I tried upgrading ubuntu, but nothing changed. Just to confirm, I rebooted the computer in Windows Vista (Dual boot) andconfirmed that Wireless worked fine there. No hardware problem then. The suggestions I have found on this and other forums suggest looking at the output from iwconfig and ifconfig. But since I'm a n00b at Ubuntu I don't know what to make of it.

This is the output:

Ubuntu / Apple :: Auto-load Apple Wireless Keyboard?

Apr 22, 2010

This morning I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and I got it connected through Blueman. It works like a charm, but I have on problem;

When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.

Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Wireless No Longer Recognizes Wireless Networks?

Jan 11, 2010

I've been running Karmic since it was officially released on my Dell Studio 17 (specs are in my signature) with a Broadcom wireless half mini wireless card.hen I installed Karmic, it gave me the option to install proprietary drivers for my video card as well as 2 Broadcom drivers, STA and one of the BC43 drivers. I installed all of these, and the only problems I had were with the audio. I spent a few days troubleshooting the audio and finally got PulseAudio set up for my card.

Almost 3 months later, I was making use of my wireless network at home, as I had done plenty of times over the previous 3 months, when I closed the lid (thus putting the computer into sleep mode) and took it to the hospital to stay with my fianc饠after her surgery. When I got to the hospital, I couldn't get their network to show up. Network Manager didn't even recognize the network. We had also brought my fianc饧s laptop (same machine with a slightly less powerful CPU and only 4 GB of RAM). She is running Windows 7, which detected the hospital's network with no problems. After trying to ad-hoc the hospital network with no success, I finally just gave up and played Sudoku and toyed with some graphics stuff in GIMP until we came home. Upon returning home, however, I was shocked that my card didn't even detect our home network.

I have been unsuccessful for the past 3 days in getting Network Manager to identify our wireless network. The wired network connects without issue and I am able to make use of a USB Belkin adapter, which identifies all 7 of the various wireless networks in my neighborhood, including our home network. While I would be able to simply carry my Belkin adapter with me in order to make use of wireless networks, I would really like to solve this problem with my Broadcom adapter. I've gone through the Ubuntu Wireless Network Troubleshooting guide, but I still can't get it to workOutput of lshw -C network:

Code:
*-network
description: Wireless interface

Ubuntu Networking :: Pavilion Dv6 Wireless - Can't Find Local Wireless Networks

Jun 11, 2011

For some reason, ubuntu cannot find local wireless networks. In fact, the Broadcom wireless card Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n seems to be incompatible with ubuntu. I've tried numerous 'solutions' on the Internet, but none of them seem to work on my computer. Tutorials I've visited have recommended downloading the b43 drivers from the Synaptic package manager and also the bcmwl-kernal-source package. Nevertheless, the wireless never turns on and Additional Drivers never shows anything at all. After several exasperating hours of trying to get my wireless running I've decided to turn to the forum for help. I'm sure there's probably more information I should supply, but I'm honestly not sure what that would be.

Ubuntu :: No Wireless Connection Has Shown

Apr 5, 2010

I have had Ubuntu on my own laptop for a few weeks, and I really like it. I bought my daughter a new mini laptop (Samsung N130) a few days ago, which came with XP. It has no CD/DVD drive, so I downloaded Ubuntu onto a 2GB memory stick, and installed it from there. The installation went fine, but I can't go online. When I click on the network manager icon there is no wireless network shown. It only shows wired network and VPN connections. If I right-click, it doesn't show 'enable wireless', just 'enable networking'. I think I have switched on the wireless network card, which seems to be F9 on her laptop, with an antenna icon. There is an LED showing with that same icon.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Only Works On Certain Networks

I have a wireless network at home. My home laptop connects without any issue.I have a wireless network at work. My work laptop connects without any issue. If I take my work laptop home, it can see the network but cannot connect to it. I've checked the passphrase and that's fine, I've deleted the network from the Network Manager profile and re-created it - no luck.

The only thing I can think of is that I had to change the wireless router network channel at one point. I think that the work PC could access the network before that (but it was a while ago). I've tried changing the channel back, but to no avail. I have to keep the channel at its new setting anyway to avoid a loss of signal. What sort of things should I be checking/changing to get home connectivity on my work PC? The wired network is fine, but my wife draws the line at me looming over her desk with a red cable plugged into the back of my laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Rt73usb In 10.04 - No Wireless Adapter Shown In The Network Manager

Jun 25, 2010

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (both 64-bit) and my USB WiFi adapter which previously worked fine stopped working. The adapter is a Hama USB stick based on the Ralink rt73 chipset. I've tried using the Ralink drivers that come with 10.04 (both rt2800usb and rt73usb) but neither work. When I use rt2800usb, the adapter is recognized as interface wlan0, however I can't see any wireless networks. When I use rt73usb (and blacklist rt2800usb to avoid conflicts) I no longer have a wlan0 interface and there is no wireless adapter shown in the network manager. I've pasted in the results of lsmod, lsusb, and ifconfig -a (with MAC addresses removed) below.
