Ubuntu :: Adding Entry In Nautilus Toolbar To Arrange Files
Mar 11, 2011
I want to add an entry in nautilus toolbar to sort files. Same kind of entry presented in the right click "Arrange items". I have checked nautilus-actions, but don't know what are the commands, and i want the entry look like view options already available in nautilus toolbar.
Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic: http://i39.tinypic.com/2qdsyll.jpg
I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.
By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.
I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.
I just recently installed Nautilus, or upgraded, from whatever was pre-installed with Ubuntu 9.10. I accidentally clicked Hide Menu toolbar, which apparently in this, there's no way to unhide it. The only thing showing now is the Sidebar, and I don't know how to get any of the toolbars back. [URL]
i have a question about customising the toolbar in the file explorer, which i think is called nautilus. i was able to add a few buttons by hacking about in /usr/share/nautilus/ui/nautilus-navigation-window-ui.xml ..but they were already defined actions. what i would really like to add is custom launchers. i have whipped up a python script that will foo and bar a glob of files in a directory, which i can pass as an argument to the script, and i would like this to be a toolbar button so i can just click an icon up there. so the launcher would need to know what directory is open in the tab which is in focus, or alternatively be able to launch from that directory as current working directory and then i can dig out the path in python. a keyboard shortcut for the launcher would be nice too
Not sure if this is just GNOME 2.30 removing customization ability, but I can't find how to add icons to the menu dropdowns and customize the nautilus toolbar (put text below buttons, etc) in Lucid. Is this function still there?
I have 100 sets of EPS files. Each set contains 3 files. I was wondering if it possible to arrange each set in such a way that 3 EPS files will be on one page?
I know how to write a bash script with "for" or "do" loop. how to arrange the EPS files, which are produced by gnuplot.
I have a working Ubuntu install with the Grub2 bootloader. I need to manually add an entry to boot Fedora 13 off of sda. Sda1 is the boot partition, sda2 is LVM. None of the examples I've tried work. I do also have F13 grub installed on sda, but chainloading to it didn't do anything other than a blinking cursor.
I want to know, how to make a shortcut of "open terminal" in the nautilus toolbar. I have installed "nautilus open terminal", there is option for opening terminal in right click menu and file tab in menu bar. But i want the shortcut to be in toolbar. I tried to edit "/usr/share/nautilus/ui/nautilus-navigation-window-ui.xml" file, but i don't know the action name, i could not add that shortcut.
I have been working for the last three months with Ubuntu 10 on a destop. Doing just fine and loving it. I decided to try a new position for the toolbar that sits at the top of the screen. I did a right click and moved it to the right side of the scree, didn't like the look of that. Right click on the bar and moved it to the left, didn't like that either, so moved it to the bottom. having done all that I thought I could put it back at the top but alas, I can not right click on the Toolbar.
It seems as though the two bars are fighting each other at the bottom of the screen.I would like to go back to the default position at the top of the screen. I do have a terminal window available to me on the desktop so if I could find out the command line to type in, I should be able to reset my tool bar. Being new I have no idea what this command would be.
I want to install ubuntu 9.10 into other partition, but I want the win xp boot.ini file to configure my boot settings, not the GRUB. First I want to ask is it possible to install ubuntu, but add a boot entry in boot.ini? If not, then I know how to remove it, i found a file called ms-sys, with it I can remove GRUB. So let's say grub is no more, what should be an entry to ubuntu. When it was installed into Windows it was
Code: c:wubildr now what should I enter, my guess would be Code: m:ootgrubmenu.lst
how to remove an "Open With" Entry in the right click menu in Nautilus? I accidentally created an entry for all "folder" type of files for "Code::Blocks", so every time I right click a folder, I get an "Open With Code::Blocks IDE" option.
In windows when I install gvim/vim, it automatically installs a context menu in explorer that lets me edit a file in gvim by simply right clicking and pressing v. For someone who edits a lot of files and is really used to vim, it is super-convenient. I want to do the same thing in nautilus. So I installed nautilus-actions and added to the context menu of editing with gvim. That wasn't hard. The hard part is getting that keyboard key to bind to that context menu item. Currently when I right click and press v, it sends the item to trash. I want it such that when I right click a file and press v, it edits the file in gvim. How can I do that? I want a good solution, and am willing to switch file managers/window managers if need be. This particular shortcut key is very important to my user experience.
I have a shared folder that has it's access restricted to certain users on a file server at work. Currently when I try to add a user I follow this process: Right click the Folder, go to Properties Click the "Access Control List" tab Select a user from the "Participants List" Click Add
For most users this process works fine but with one of them I get the following error: "Could not add ACL entry: Invalid Argument" I also tried a script that a former employee created which seems to employ this command: setfacl -m u:<USER>:rw- <PATH> Running the command with the correct user and path returns a similar "Invalid Argument" error. We're using OpenSuse 10.2.
I'm a member of ubuntuone-android-hackers team on Launchpad, I work on Ubuntu One Files app. If you would like to see new features in the app, you can post your ideas here. I think the forums is a good and comfortable place to share ideas. We have already received quite a lot of requests via e-mail. Most notably, these have been already requested:
- secure app launch with PIN entry - preserve folder structure when auto-uploading files - real sync (i.e. reupload a file, that has been modified; sync down favorite folders; etc)
We continue to fix bugs and improve on what we already have, this is just to give you a place to share ideas on new features. We will select the best we can take on given available time and resources. I can't guarantee we'll implement them, I can guarantee however that we're doing our best and I'll be keeping track of this official thread.
I was hoping to get some pointers on how to rename files based on database entry. I got hundreds of thousands of files that has GUID name assigned to it. only way to find out the file name is to look up the database table. Its obvious that this is not efficient. I couldn't find any tutorials on how to do this. Please point me to right direction. A starting point would be very helpful.
Is there a way to arrange icons from terminal? Was thinking to make a bash scripts as sometimes(quite seldom) my icons just rearrange on their own and it's damn annoying having to drag them to the place they were.
I'm on 10.10. way to align the icons on the desktop to the right side instead of the left? When I click "Organize Desktop By Name" everything ends up on the left by default, I want to have it default to the right instead. Doesn't matter how complicated the solution is, I can do it as long as someone can give me the basic instruction. it's really only because I have an awesome desktop background, and the best part is covered with icons.
i need to arrange alot of file on up to 25 foloders i want to open about 15 foloders at the same time but i want to see all at the same time can ubuntu arrange 10 foloders in way that i can seen all the files ?
Since a couple of days back mostly all the folders and files I had on my download directory are not visible in Nautilus. Some of them are still there, but the majority it's like vanished. The folder is where everything I download with Transmission goes into. The tricky thing is that all those files are visible through the terminal, pcman file manager or konqueror, but not Nautilus, which is very annoying. I've tried reinstalling Nautilus from Synaptic, checking the 'show hidden files' option, checking and changing files and folder permissions and I also checked that there's no hidden instance of Nautilus running. I have Ubuntu 10.04 (upgraded from a 9.10) and the files are on a ext4 drive. Nautilus version is 2.30.1
so i am in the stages of experiementing and right now, on Linux Mint KDE, there doesnt seem to be a way to arrange my desktop icons in the way i want the icons always want to be aligned/sorted on there own even if i click lock off and snap to grid off as well ive tried folder view, default desktop and newspaper but it hasnt worked so far is there a way to be able to arrange my icons anyway i want?
I am new to linux. I want to use a header file asm/msr.h. But the /usr/include does not contain the header file that I want. Can I just copy the whole asm directory into the directory /usr/include, and overwrite the old one?
