After installing Maverick 64 bit (clean install, used to be 32 bit Lucid) any applications I run in WINE disappear when I minimize them. They don't crash, they're just impossible to reach as they're no longer in task manager, they don't show up through alt-tab but I can see them if I run ps -x from a terminal. I tried with mIRC and the client is still responding, it'll still accept files with auto-get on so it's working fine, but the UI is gone

When I minimize windows they completely disappear. Doesn't matter if its a program or my home folder, anything I open disappears when its minimized.I can run the system monitor and check running processes and they are still running. I just cant see them. All I can do is kill them with the system monitor.I can log on as another user and they work fine. It's just in one account. Is there a way to fix this, or to completely reset my desktop to the default settings? I know it's something I did but I can't find out where to fix it.

I am using Ubuntu Incredible Ibex on a Lenovo T400 with a Hawking HWUG1 USB adapter. I was successfully capturing WPA handshakes good enough for Aircrack-ng. However they didnt satisfy Cowpatty.
The built-in wireless adapter on my Lenovo T400 appeared as wlan0. The HWUG1 USB adapter appeared as wlan1. The airmon-ng start wlan1 command configured the HWUG USB adapter as mon0. Things were okay but not great. I wanted to use Cowpatty and the Rainbow tables but my captures werent satisfactory, except for the ones on my own router five feet away. I even tried using a 3 foot omni 12 dB antenna
I started to suspect my drivers.I was using the drivers that came with Ubuntu Incredible Ibex. I saw the website [URl].. and followed the instructions carefully to install the rt73-k2wrlz-3.0.3 driver. When I ran Airmon-ng start wlan1, I saw that the Hawking was indeed now rausb0 and using the rt73 driver.
When I ran Aireplay on my WIFI router to de authenticate myself I got 0/0 acks. Previously I was getting something like (63/66 acks). It also happened on other test routers. So I did some more reading and I was thinking the rt73-k2wrlz-3.0.3.driver was incompatible with the Incredible Ibex kernel and Ubuntu. I found the site [URL].. and followed the instructions to install the rt73-cvs-daily driver. However I didnt install WICD.
After that, my HWUG1 USB disappeared completely as well as wlan1. It doesnt show up when I run the ifconfig command. However my built-in onboard wireless adapter shows up as wlan0. How can I bring back the wlan1 and my Hawking HWUG1 USB adapter? Furthermore how can I reinstate the original driver that I was using?

I have two monitors set up on my Asus N61J laptop, but have a weird problem:When I move the mouse to right-hand edge of the Left (Primary) screen, it disappears. To get it back, I have to either keep moving it to the next screen, or move it over something that will cause it to change shape. It also happens if I move it to the left-hand edge the Right (Secondary) screen. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It's a little annoying, as it makes it hard to select the Logout/Shutdown/Status menu

After installing ubuntu 64 bit, I installed all my updates and installed the current nvidia driver for my 9800 GTX+ from the additional drivers page. After restarting my computer, ubuntu boots into text mode. I used google and found out a couple of commands like:
After i hit control+alt+f7 it hangs on checking battery state with NO ok to the right of it. after running sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia -current and restarting the computer, the boot hangs on the ubuntu screen everytime.
My specs are:
Core i7 860
4 GB of ram
Nvidia 9800 GTX+

I've been using Kubuntu 9.10 for several months now. For most of that time, I configured and used with no problem several network printers.. a HP LaserJet 3015 at home connected to a Windows machine, and a Xerox Phaser 8560 at my coworking space connected directly to a router.
However, several weeks ago I was at the coworking space, requested a print from my web browser, and in the printer selection dialog, observed the list of printers expanding... some sort of autodetection of network printers was occuring, and multiple instances of the same printer were being offered, with slightly different names. Printing to these devices did not work.
Now, after a reboot, there are NO network printers available no matter what network I'm connected to. When I use the Kubuntu printer configuration tool and try to set up a new printer, it asks me to "Select a connection" to which the only option it gives me is "Other". When I put in an address for the printer it just cycles endlessly, never finding anything.

After the last screen the "normal" login screen is shown. If i dont use the drivers everything looks fine, but then my gpu fan (radeon 4890hd) runs at 100% which is a bit noisy.

I've been using ubuntu fine for a while when I decide to activate my nvidia graphics card. After rebooting, however, I hit nothing but a black screen. I've searched the nets and others have seemed to solve the problem after hitting alt+ctrl+f1/f2 and editing some files after that, but that doesn't work for me. Booting into recover console gives me nothing but a long stream of white words before it runs to --> done. and then it goes back to a black screen. Running from Live CD I can't access my ubuntu files.

I was having slowdown freezes with the NVIDIA proprietary drivers for Ubuntu 11.04 (additional drivers), so I decided to try the latest binary from nvidia that I had to install manually. I purged the system of the nvidia drivers and then installed the manual nvidia driver (sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-*). But I got the same slowdown freeze (just took a lot longer to happen now) and when I uninstalled the manual nvidia driver, X would fail to initialize (no nvidia modules). Is there a package or configuration utility I could use to install the nouveau driver after removing the manual nvidia drivers or am I screwed? Cause the Nouveau driver works fine, I just wanted to see if I could switch to Linux since all the games I play work fine through Wine.

i m trying to fix the nvidia drivers and stuff to let Desktop Effects work. I reboot after some changes, and at first I got a kernal error message, and the Fedora froze. So I restart,, and it freezes before I even get the error message. Pop in the live cd, booted up from it so I can talk to my fedora friend, and the reboot to try again. Works, still hasn't froze, and I could get the actual error info.

I am using an Nvidia GeForce FX5200 card and nvidia hasn't released a driver that seems to work with it in Fedora 13 yet.. However, I decided to do an install of F13 and use the nouveau drivers until Nvidia updates their drivers, however, the nouveau drivers don't work worth a crap with my card I did a fresh install and then ran a yum update. What I am seeing is after a few minutes, all the icons disappear, no fonts, and nouveau starts throwing errors to my message log. Here are the messages I get:

I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc"

I installed Xubuntu the other night (completely wiped machine) and started doing all the updates on it. After a couple of reboots, I changed from the proprietary drivers, to the regular nVidia drivers. After doing this, the startup logo is displayed at a really low resolution. Is there a simple fix to change this and use the nVidia drivers as well?

I just updated Nvidia driver with sgfxi to 352.30 (Debian testing), and X doesn't load.
My current display manager is sddm, used with KDE Plasma 5. Is it a known issue? I couldn't find any sensible error messages in Xorg logs.

I can't figure out how to install the nvidia drivers for my nvidia 8800 GT video card. I've followed some other posts and all the posts seemed either incomplete, or led me down a path of which eventually broke my installation, that I needed to reinstall the entire ubuntu system.Again, it may not have been broken, i just didnt know how to get back in to the gui version of ubuntu, the instructions took me to the console terminal
1.) I've installed the ubuntu 10.10 64bit for i386 in an oracle virtualBox..
2.) downloaded from nvidia.com "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.44.run"
3.) Stuck don't know what to do.

Downloaded and played latest Ubuntu (10.10) to get an idea of how it works (without actually installing it). Currently i use windows 7. When I restarted my computer all my desktop icons had disappeared. I still have the programs in my documents file or wherever but my desktop is clear. Is there any way i can restore them without doing it one by one? i.e. get back to my previous state.
