Ubuntu :: ALSA Not Playing Audio On IDT HDA Codec?

I have an issue that I have been trying to fix for the last one week and failing. I am working on an IP phone where I have two Audio codecs -
CARD 0: IDT HDA Code for the Handset
CARD 1: NXP USB Codec for the Speakerphone
I can play music on each of them using command line commands. But when I use ALSA APIs, I can only play music on CARD 1 (Speaker phone) and not on CARD 0 at all.
The code I have for CARD 1 is: snd_pcm_open(&phandle, "plughw:1,0", SND_PCM_STREAM_PLAYBACK, 0);
I have all the other API calls as well.. and I am using PCM STREAM RATE = 16000, Channels = 1 for initializing. BUt when I change the devide to: "plughw:0,0" -- I get no audio on the handset.
I want to listen to this audio file: [URL] but my real player 11.0.0.4028 gold desn play it, it says that there is a codec 28_8 missing, I go to relaplayer page, download the last release available for linux systems, but the message is the same : audio codec missing and doesn't play the audio.
I havev tried to play the audio with smplayer (not luck), vlc can play the audio but the pause button doesn't work so I have to listen the entire audio all the time I stop it playing. Is there any audio player capable od reproducing in the proper way this audio in ubuntu? No one of my video players totem, smplayer, realplayer or vlc are capable of playing this video: [URL]
I'm considering getting a new motherboard in the future that has a pci-e x16 slot, but the slot only runs at x4 bandwidth.I will be using a 8800GT, so my question is will the x4 bandwidth have any detrimental performance hit when playing HD videos using VDPAU (H.264 codec)?
the sound stops while playing music or movies and can't be restartet. I already upgraded alsa to 1.0.24.2. I managed to fix the problem somehow after hours of deinstalling and reinstalling alsa and trying loads of things, but I did not really find the cause of the problem.
I've worked out how to get ALSA libasound code working for an application. However I can't workout how to get multiple sounds working at once. I can't seem to find any google examples of mutiple sounds. EG tune plays while pressing buttons makes clicks. I'm using an embedded board so need to use ALSA not an addon e.g. sdlmixer, jack, etc.
I m trying to install Alsa for playing wav files I typed this: aptitude install alsa-base It started removing a lot of software from debian. Is that expected with that command? Do I need to install another "base" to bring things back?
After experimenting with version 6.0 of ffmpeg there were a few issues i was not totally happy with, so i decided to downgrade back to the 2008 build of ffmpeg.However now whenever i encode a libxvid/libmp3lame movie with ffmpeg (using the exact same settings I have always used), the output created .avi file is reported by KDE as having:

This is truly odd (and quite annoying) as the .avi movie plays correctly with sound on both Smplayer and Kaffeine, so i don't think it is a codec issue, but it just does not display the correct audio codec tag anymore. how the metabar properties are controlled in KDE?, or if there is a config that I can adjust to make the new created output .avi's report the Audio Codec correctly as 'mp3'? (like it used to).Also, does anyone know if ffmpeg 6.0 may have left some files behind on my system that is causing this sudden odd behavior?
For X-Mas I got myself a nice little nettop running off an ION motherboard. how to enable HDMI audio output, but got it to work. I've realized that when I'm in XBMC (which is admittedly the only place I watch movies) certain sounds like gunshots will be extremely louder than something like dialog. My friend believes that I should mess around with the channels (to fake the center channel from the left and right) I don't want to threaten Linux, how lightweight I can make it which is critical to an HTPC, but considering XBMC just got a Netflix addon
I am new to this forum and have recently switched to Ubuntu. The OS installed without a hitch and was able to get video card, wireless internet installed with relative ease. However, I have encountered a problem installing my E-mu 0404 PCI sound card via the ALSA packages in Synaptic.
Code: 04:03.0 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value [1102:0008] As you can see once the packages were installed the OS could see the hardware ok, but when I tried playing a standard MP3 file (16 bit, 44.1khz, 192kbps) in Totem it started playing the file back around 15-20% faster than normal? To me it sounds as if the software is playing the audio back at higher sample rate than 44.1khz hence the faster speed, though I'm not 100% on that.
The next thing I tried was playing the same file back in VLC and it was exactly the same (15-20% too fast), but this time it was horrible and glitchy as well, almost as if the audio buffer size was set to small. The same thing happened when I tried playing back some flac and wav files (all 16 bit, 44.1khz) also. I have searched google (and read the comprehensive sound card guide on this forum) and read several forums, guides, etc. for anybody posting the same issue with this particular card but could find nothing. From all reports I've read this card should work fine under ALSA. For the record I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64bit kernel running on a Dell Dimension 9200 (Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13ghz) with 2GB RAM.
The problem is that banshee mutes sound for other apps like flash, the solution is to select alsa for the devices in audio preferences... but don't have that in the list, only "internal audio analog stereo".
This wasn't a problem until i made some updates and got broken sound, to fix it i used the AlsaUpgrade script. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 by the way.
I've recently encountered a sound issue and I recently installed the nvidia gt220 in my box and was thrilled at how well it worked with hdmi until I tried to use the audio. I updated my alsa and went into the alsamixer and it does detect my gt220. I unmuted all spdif and tested the sound and with success the sound test works. I know the card and device numbers that work with the audio but now sure where to make changes so it will default to that device instead of the onboard audio that it seems to try to use now. I am running lucid 10.04.
I have alsa 1.0.22 on my system. I can plug in my pcmcia card into my laptop, and my computer register's it, but when I plug in my microdock, alsa still thinks it's an EMU 1010, which is just the basic one, and I have a 1616, so none of my inputs register anything at all, so I can't record audio. The only thing that seems to be working perfectly or at all, are the audio jack on the pc card, the headphone jack on the microdock, and the stereo mini out for speakers on the microdock. I think it's odd that the headphone and stereo outs work on the microdock, but I can't input any audio. how to get the rest of my microdock to work?
I posted my question on Linx.com, but have not received an answer after 75 viewers to my question: Ok my respected Linux genius. This is my project. First I have a Windows / Linux combo OS set-up! In my windows, I use the latest realtex sound driver as this gives me complete control with recording output control and Microphone gain control. In the set-up, there is a stereo mixer component with is necessary to engage the direct sound recording from my sound card. To make this all come together, I use a sound recording software [ free sound recorder 9 ] and to convert the recording to a wma, wav, or meg, I use Roxio 10 to produce audio cd's to play on all CD Players.
The challenge for me in Linux is to create the same set-up with Linux applications to produce the same professional results.Presently, my kubuntu 10.04 has Alsa sound drivers, with a version of realtek incorporated. I have the Alsa mixer software as well as Audacity as the sound recorder program. But no matter what I do, audacity depends on the microphone to record, which makes the final recording pure crap. If I lower the microphone boost or gain in my Alsa mix, then Audacity can not record the ambient sound from the speaker output and it will only recognize mono and pulse as the sound method. With the pre mention set up, Who has a set up identical to what is offered to windows that will do exactly the same for Linux. I basically want to record directly from the sound card in my Linux, without depending on using my microphone and then a CD burning program to make the conversion to MPEG or the necessary file format for the burned CD to play in all CD players, not just on a PC) I am trying to stay away from command line language in the terminal. I really need a replacement for Audacity,cause Free Sound Recorder is made for Windows Platform......I need a Linux sound Guru for the answer.I am not doing this to pirate music....I have over 3,450 music track inside my Rhapsody subscription and I like to record music for personal listening on my portable CD player and at 0.99 per track charge to do this in Rhapsody, I might as well by a recording studio and hire the singing artist.Basically in short..I need to know if there is a setting I can engage in my Alsa Mixer panel that will allow me to record directly from my sound card without using my microphone as a default. When I mute the microphone in my Alsa control panel, my Audacity program will not record using the microphone, which I do not want to use anyway. I spent a few days trying to make audio work on my TV connected via HDMI to a PC. The speaker test used by the sound preferences was dead, as was MPlayer. I managed to find a solution for MPlayer, giving the option "-ao alsa:device=hdmi", as specified in this article:So, basically ALSA can see all my devices. This is the output of aplay -l:Quote:

When using Skype, the sound suddenly stops working, both ways (about 4-5 min into the communication). The message "connection failed: connection terminated" is displayed and when I click OK, Pulse Audio closes and Skype freezes. Actually, and I just realized this, the sound suddenly stops working on Firefox as well. (The Alsa plugin in Pulse Audio 'Playback' just disappears). However this occurs after a long period of use. I've just watched about 30 continuous minutes of live soccer through Espn3, before the audio stopped working. No message was displayed though, and just refreshing the page fixed it.
All this makes me think this is some type of Alsa-Pulse Audio problem. I really don't understand well what they are, although I believe Alsa is a driver and Pulse Audio a sound server? Sorry, I started using Linux very recently. I am using Ubuntu-Studio 10.04 and the rt Kernel (2.6.33-29-realtime). Sometimes I use Pulse Audio in Jack and vice-versa, using pactl load-module module-jack-sink and source respectively, but my problem seems to occur even if I unload the modules before using Skype. I believe all this started happening after I started using the rt kernel and/or the module-jack-sink/source.
I just got rid of pulseaudio because it breaks in so many different situations. I've switched to Alsa, and all of my sound is working except in mpd. It seems like I have to set audio_output in /etc/mpd.conf. Here is my config file:

And I hear the song play for less than a second before the audio_output driver is closed. There really aren't any error messages printed explaining why it's not working. I've also tried "oss", "esd" and "ao" for the audio_output type, and none of them work.
I have a lenovo g555 laptop, about a week old with lucid installed, and whenever i try to play things through the headphones, they come through the speakers as well. I've tried tinkering around in alsa, but the ony two levels are Master and PCM, which seem to adjust both headphones and speakers at once. My audio codec is "Conexant ID 5069"
ubuntu lucid 10.04 with the latest update up to june 6, 2010, could not play mp3 files smoothly. it always stutter randomly.i'm using gigabyte amd 780g chipset with realtek high definition audio chipset.
I'm trying to get mplayer to recognize ALSA and/or pulse audio server, preferably both. On my laptop, mplayer works fine -- mplayer -ao help lists oss, alsa, pulse, and jack, among others. But here's the output of mplayer -ao help on the computer I'm trying to set up:

ALSA and pulse are both installed, and pulse is running -- ps -A | grep pulse gives: 3627? 00:00:00 pulseaudio Yet, mplayer fails to realize this. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong that's really simple...but what?

During the process I was asked "do you want to replace this alsa* file" I said Yes After the migration I had alsa 1.0.23 and the aplay -l showed the proper sounds cards. using "aplay -Dplughw:X,Y -fcd /mySound.wav" When X, Y was 0,0 I had sound though analog When X was 1 and Y was 3, 7, 8, 9 had no sound though hdmi.
OK, so I have a samba share on my Ubuntu server that holds my mp3 files, and I can play these files from which ever PC in the house whether its my Laptop (Linux) or Desktops (mix of Windows, Linux & Mac) At the moment my Windows Desktop PC has a sound system connected to it and I vnc to that computer to change tracks create playlists etc to play through the nice sound system, however I want to be able to play through local rhythmbox or similar and play the sound via the networked windows (xp) pc.
i was tweaking some settings on mplayer and now when the video is playing fine the audio is gone, not only from mplayer but also from all the applications

I know very little about Debian but have an ASUS T100TA tablet which runs fairly well under Debian 8 Jessie (kernel 3.16.0-4-686-pae). I used the following guide successfully to activate the wireless but am having trouble with the audio section of it.URL...
First, I went here and downloaded the file called 'NEW T100_B.state'.URL....
Then I copied it to /var/lib/alsa/asound.state and ran 'alsactl restore' which reported that i had no soundcards.I then downloaded and expanded linux-firmware-master-intel.tar.gz but am not sure what to do with these files. I copied them to /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-686-pae/kernel/drivers/firmware as they are specific for this kernel, but they don't seem to be doing anything and 'alsactl restore' still tells me that I don't have a soundcard. What do I need to do with these files?
