Internet connection is not working on any of the windows computers.
I have eth1 set to "shared to other computers" under the IPv4 settings
Are there Unix/Linux commands to find out the IP address of running computers on LAN?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a hobbyist interested in development and have recently decided to migrate from Windows to Linux and after trying out a number of distributions decided to use openSUSE. After getting somewhat more comfortable with Linux and openSUSE I decided to try and get comfortable with development on this platform.
And hence my problem: After compiling the simplest of programs (hello world) and trying to step through it with gdb I get this output:
Missing separate debuginfo for /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
Try: zypper install -C "debuginfo(buildid)=2b25d8329d1aa713a2cc61b5cb701f6f89c78022"
Missing separate debuginfo for /lib64/libc.so.6
Try: zypper install -C "debuginfo(buildid)=9b674b2caef1982db55e436bca814060e1705b7f"
As soon as I type the command start in gdb. Naturally I tried the recommended zypper downloads to no avail. Furthermore I sought out the glibc debuginfo in the software manager and found nothing which I have not already installed.
On my system are:-devel-32bit
glibc
glibc-32bit
glibc-devel
glibc
glibc-info
glibc-locale
glibc-locale-32bit
glibc-profile
glibc-profile-32bit
gdb
gdbm
gdbm-32bit
All of these are the latest version from the standard 11.3 repositories. I believe these are all the requirements I should need to not have gdb give me errors but sadly that is not the case. Lastly I am running on a 64bit version of openSUSE 11.3.
im trying to connect two computers on lan.One computer has: VMWare Workstation and has Opensuse 11.3 mounted in it.The other computer has: VMWare Player and has Opensuse 11.3 mounted in it.Both computers are connected to a switch with cables.I have followed this guide in both computers:Depanati singuri calculatorul!: Opensuse 11.3 - configure local networkin order to setup a network. In one computer, if i go to: Computer---Network---Network folder, i only see one machine. View 9 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to have a folder that is stored on my server mounted via smb etc, that copies over any file that has been updated on my machine? I believe I'll prob have to learn some scripting to accomplish this, but here is what I want to do.
I have three computers, a laptop for school, a desktop at home and a server box sitting around for hosting files (I have access to this from anywhere). I have a folder for all of my school work, we'll call it "school". This folder is present on my laptop and desktop. Sometimes I work on my laptop at school and have new files created / updated. Other times, I work on my desktop and alter files / create new ones there. What I was thinking was using my file server as a repository. After I am finished working on one machine, I want to upload all the new files/folders to the server, so that when I work on the other machine, I can run a quick "fetch files" and being to work off of where I left of. That way, I don't have to copy files over via email or my network. Also, it's very helpful to have the updated files always stored on my server because sometimes I need to grab a file but don't have access to any of my computers.
Im trying to set up a share between my 2 ubuntu computers. I set one computer to share a folder in the properties tab, and installed the corresponding software. now, how do I search my local network for shares?hat type of share is it? NFS? Is there a tutorial out there some place?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed 10.04 on both my laptop and my desktop computer. the desktop was pre-installed with 9.10 then upgraded to 10.04, the laptop was pre-installed with 9.04then upgraded to 10.04. There are a few differences in the look of the desktop but the most notable is the fact that the window controls for the desktop are on the left and the windows controls for the laptop are on the right . Any thoughts as to how this happened or what went wrong. Both were upgraded at the same time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have configured Ubuntu 10.04 to work on a Windows XP network that has 2 other XP desktops (wired to same router). Ubuntu sees the icons for each computer in the "network" tab of "places" and can access the shared files 1 of those desktops, no problem, but trying to access the other one gets the error "Unable to mount location-failed to retrieve share list from server" I have checked the XP computers and can't find what may be different about them.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning a Dell XPS/Dimension 630i. It came with "SATA 2 RAID 0 With Dual 500GB Hard Drives." I have installed a new, third non-raided drive and installed Ubuntu on it.
So now I have Windows on the original hard drive and Ubuntu Linux on the new HD. When I get to the boot menu where I can select an OS, if I select windows I get an error: "No such drive, no such disk." Also, strangely in the first place, in order to even get to the bootloader menu I have had to disable ALL ports under the RAID config. Unless I do this, I will just get to a never-ending blinking cursor.
I have tried every conceivable CMOS config and nothing else works. Tried setting port 3 (the new HD w/ Ubuntu) to first hard disk boot priority. Tried disabling all other ports and enabling the Ubuntu HD port and vice versa.
I have some pictures of boot up: first one is strange error i get after messing with CMOS to finally get ubuntu install to work.
Then the boot menu:
Then error:
Also, note that I can actually access all files from the raided Windows drive through Ubuntu.
I'm using an ATI card, however. I'm using a dual-monitor setup, such that one of the monitors is my HDTV. The problem is that flash has a bug in it (I don't care if Adobe claims it's a security feature, it's a bug) where it only opens full-screen mode on your left-most monitor, which happens to be my pc. Now I know an "easy" work-around is to switch the positions of my monitors, but I don't have room in my apartment to place them differently and switching them only virtually would confuse and frustrate me (I tried it before).
The default Ubuntu Desktop manager is very limited, and only allows me to span the display. The manager within ATI Catalyst Control center is even more limited (it doesn't even like when I use different resolution on each monitor). So I'm hoping to use separate X sessions for each display instead (I'm aware that I can't move windows between the monitors but that would not be as big of an issue to me). Can someone suggest how to setup a separate X session per monitor in ATI?
I keep my /home on a separate partition. After every clean install of Ubuntu my old panel configuration is loaded. Meaning, shortcuts on my panel and different applets I've put on my panels as well.
what file in the /home folder is keeping these settings? Simply, I'd like to delete so I can have that "fresh" install feeling on my desktop.
i have the pre-insalled system managed version 3.18 but im trying to isntall/run a newer version but they open as 3.18.
ive tried installing Firefox 2 thru synaptic and the newest 3.6 from [URL] both open as 3.18
is there some config file i have to change or something?
I want to try out KDE on Lucid, but I don't want to install KDE on top of ubuntu, because I will end up with two sets of applications and software that is gnome specific to load in the KDE environment.SOOOOO, I want to create a separate user that is only KDE and a user(my current one) that is only gnome. Different names, different environments and applications.
Also, if it is possible, I will need instructions to remove a user as well, so in the future I decide which one I like better, I can delete the other user account.
Okay I want to install Ubuntu Studio but sense the file is 1.7 gigs can I somehowbut half on or a 1/3 on disk the next part on another and so on. If so how?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed BackupPC through the Synaptic system. It installs well on Ubuntu 10.04 and looks as though it is just what I have been looking for.
But; although I am by no means a dummy user, I cannot for the life of me understand the vast majority of what is written in the documentation. I would say it requires a high degree of expertise to understand what it is saying.
My problem is simple. I need to back up to an independent HDD. One that has no OS, and is simply a data disk. In my case, it is /dev/sde.
How can I configure BackupPC to do this?
Thinking of installing 10.10 on a separate hard drive but i would like to have a separate boot file for ubuntu how to do that?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed various distros/releases of linux over the past few days and have read of a few people keeping separate partitions for their /home folders. I have a few questions:
1) I assume /home is installed with the OS and would always be on the OS partition.
2) Can I repartition the drive even though I am already installed to allocate space or would I have to start from scratch, create the partitions, and reinstall the OS?
3) How much space would one need for a home folder? Majority of hdd right?

We have 5 computers networked with 9.04 installed. On some days, when you click on Place -> Network, then all the computers will show. On other days, like today, it does not show. However, one can ping them and I have been able to print to one computer which has the printer attached. SAMBA is installed on the computers for file and printer sharing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to figure out how to even share files between my laptop and desktop. They are both Ubuntu 9.10. I thought maybe samba was the way but couldn't figure it out. I was looking at the ssh that comes with Ubuntu and been trying to get it to work but don't know what I'm doing wrong. I type: ssh username@computername and it give me a little info. Don't know what I'm suppose to do then. I looked at the network folder on my laptop and it seem to see it but everytime I click on it ask for a password and I can't get in since I don't know the right password. I'm not sure if this is the best software to use or not. Just wanted something to look at and transfer from my desktop to my laptop and vice versa.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a small home network. Computers A and B are both running Kubuntu Lucid. Computer A has an external USB hard drive attached, partitioned ext3 and mounted to a folder in computer A's home folder. Computer C is running Vista. I installed Samba, and computer C can access all the files on both computers A and B. But using Samba, computers A and B can't see each other OR computer C. That's not really important to me, but they can't
So I installed NFS and got computers A and B talking that way. I like NFS better. It's faster than Samba. BUT, computer B can't access computer A's USB drive, and I need it to do that. When I'm using computer B and I click on the folder the drive is mounted to, the file manager just shows the folder as empty.
