I downloaded ubuntu 10.10 in my PC alongside with windows 7 yesterday. However it could not detect my wireless LAN then with some hardwork I was able install the wireless device driver but still no internet!
View 1 RepliesI have no internet available, but the driver seems to be installed (kernel driver r8169). I'll follow the steps for posting on the wireless forum this time:
1) I'm using a desktop. Intel Core i7-870 2.93Ghz 8md Quad Core. Motherboard is an ASRock H55M-LE LGA1156. 4GB RAM DDR3.
2) The wireless card is:

I have an Acer Aspire One D255 netbook with opensuse 11.3 installed and after several painstaking days of tinkering I successfully installed the broadcom wl drivers, and now my wifi card is operational. However, i can connect to my wireless network, but still have no internet access. I have searched the forums and google for a solution but most issues I have found that are similar to mine have been resolved once the wl drivers and firmware where installed

I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.

I finally found the windows inf and sys driver files, and learned how to get ndiswrapper without internet and installed the driver. It says that i have the hardware it controls, but when I look at the connection icon, it says not connected, has lost the wireless connection block, and I am not connected to the internet. The wireless is called USB Wireless 802.11 b/g , but it is not usb and is plugged straight into the motherboard with the only physical part is the antenna. Why can't I connect?

I want to share my internet connection with wireless connection.
I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Ubuntu 10 as a last resort to save my laptop from the bin. However, I'm having similar issues to when I installed 9.x a few months back. First off, I have no network connection at all (using another laptop just now). I've plugged in the network cable from the modem and although it looks to be doing something, it doesn't establish a connection. The wireless is also not connected due to Firmware not installed. I remeber this was a common issue with the Broadcom 43xx modem but I need to get the wired network going first to be able to download drivers *I think*.

I don't want to resort to reloading Windows just because of this!I've managed to install the RT2870.inf driver for my Belkin wireless adaptor but couldn't install the sys file. Hence my adaptor still won't work - well I think this is why but hoping someone can enlighten me step by step.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI used to have a PCi wireless card but decided to upgrade to a 802.11n device. I run the lshw -C network command and no output is shown for the usb dongle. I have installed ndiswrapper and it states the driver is installed, but a popup always appears stating that Ubuntu cannot recognise if the hardware is present, but once this is closed the remaining window shows the dongle is present. So Ubuntu (9.10 btw) can recognise the card is present in the windows driver window, but not in lshw -c network. Any ideas?

I recently installed Open SUSE 11.2. It's a pretty cool OS. Anyway,sadly enough, I cannot access my internet connection via my USB internet modem. Worst of all, Open SUSE cannot detect the USB modem device. I am currently new to Linux and I may be overlooking something. I also clearly figured that Linux online is better than Linux offline from what I read from blogs and numerous posts. So in essence, I cannot fully appreciate the true power of Open SUSE 11.2 offline. Would there be a way to install my USB modem device?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed OPENSUSE 11.3 (32 bit) on a pc. I am brand new to OPENSUSE. I have connected a network cable from a router that previously connected a Windows XP machine to a home wired network/internet connection. The computer shows network connectivity, but when I launch Firefox it cannot find the OPENSUSE URL or any other such as my ISP. Do I need to install or activate some LINUX application to make the OPENSUSE system see the network /internet connection? I can't seem to find any application in the basic OPENSUSE installation that addresses this. Is there some kind of firewall that needs to be dealt with?

Ubuntu either says that the card is turned off or if I toggle the wireless switch on my keyboard it then says 'device not ready.' I'm using a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, and it works fine when I boot in Windows 7.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've read a lot about wireless network cards but I haven't found something similiar to my problem. I've a belkin wireless card F5D7000tt and its driver bcmwl5.inf. I think I've correctly installed it because when I use "ndiswrapper -l" i get:

bcmlw5.inf: driver installed

But when I go to Hardware Drivers I see that "Broadcom B43 wireless driver" is not enabled, and when a try to enable it I get an error message:"We are sorry, but the installation of this driver failed. Check the register archive to see more details: /var/log/jockey.log"
1. Installed a fresh 10.10 and upgraded all packages (via Ethernet).
2. Downloaded latest drivers from ASUS webiste (DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422)
3. Unpacked and tried to compile:
The wireless card is working with the driver rt2870sta, but I've read not all the capabilities of the device is unleash unless the native driver is used.
Installed 9.10 side-by-side with Vista, then installed the Broadcom STA wireless driver, rebooted to activate it no luck, no connection, neither wireless nor wired. Did this several times. Getting online in Vista works fine.
Here's the system I'm using:
HP tx2500z laptop
Vista Home Premium SP1
AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile processor RM
ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card
Broadcom 4322AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter
Realtek RTL 8186C (P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
Before I start off, I must say that I know NOTHING about Ubuntu. I only know how to run .deb files. So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.

I have a HP Elitebook 6930 with Intel 5300 wireless card and today I update it from Fedora11 to Fedora 12 and now I cannot connect with my home wireless network. Previously with F11 I connected without problems but now the wireless connection presents a "Device not ready" message. I tried to switch on/off the wireless card but without results. I had to set intel_iommu=off as kernel parameter to complete the boot. Is something related to it?
