OpenSUSE Network :: Internet Connection On Newly Installed 11.3?

Oct 6, 2010

I have just installed OPENSUSE 11.3 (32 bit) on a pc. I am brand new to OPENSUSE. I have connected a network cable from a router that previously connected a Windows XP machine to a home wired network/internet connection. The computer shows network connectivity, but when I launch Firefox it cannot find the OPENSUSE URL or any other such as my ISP. Do I need to install or activate some LINUX application to make the OPENSUSE system see the network /internet connection? I can't seem to find any application in the basic OPENSUSE installation that addresses this. Is there some kind of firewall that needs to be dealt with?

My network adapter is "Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC", and processor is Intel Core 2 Duo. I read in a thread somewhere to edit a file named resolv.conf to include DNS server address, but don't know how to go about it exactly. I asked my ISP and he gave me two DNS Ip addresses

General :: Cannot Access The Internet On Newly Installed Fedora

Sep 8, 2010

I have just installed fedora 13 onto my old PC. Everything is great apart from the fact that i cannot access the internet. My isp is TalkTalk, they do not support linux, and have suggested that i contact the Geek squad who might be able to help me for the princely sum of 30. i think that all that i need is the ip address for my Isp or something equally simple and my problem will be solved. failure to resolve this issue means that i might have to go back to windows.

The machinery that i have is an emachines 3210, 2.70 GHz, a Dlink wireless router, i am using a cat 5 cable plugged directly into the back of the pc, i am using fedora 13. ps my son is using windows and is connected to the internet still via WiFi.

Ubuntu Networking :: Just Installed 10 - No Internet Connection

Nov 2, 2010

I've just installed Ubuntu 10 as a last resort to save my laptop from the bin. However, I'm having similar issues to when I installed 9.x a few months back. First off, I have no network connection at all (using another laptop just now). I've plugged in the network cable from the modem and although it looks to be doing something, it doesn't establish a connection. The wireless is also not connected due to Firmware not installed. I remeber this was a common issue with the Broadcom 43xx modem but I need to get the wired network going first to be able to download drivers *I think*.

Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Internet Connection Through Multihomed Computer?

Dec 2, 2010

I am in college and live in a dorm room. As a dorm resident, I have access to only one wired network connection and I am not allowed to connect it to a router. My primary computer is multihomed and I was hoping I could share network access (eth1) through eth0 to a router. Then I want to hook up my secondary system to the router. I am not using the WAN port on the router. I believe this makes it act like a switch, which seems to be what I want. Here is my /etc/network/interfaces file on my primary computer

Code:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

Networking :: Share An Internet Connection From A Computer With Two NICs ?

Feb 24, 2010

Im posting after reading through a lot of articles explaining the same thing on how to share an internet connection from a computer with two NICs.

I have the following simple setup

When I first followed this guide

I was able to ping between the GW and a client on the LAN but couldn't access the internet from it. So I started to configure different things to get it to work which failed.

Now I can't ping between GW and the LAN. I tried to follow the same guide over again and even flushing the tables but still...

These are my current settings (without any chains).

(this client also has a wireless connection displayed in 'ifconfig')

Ubuntu Networking :: Computer Loses Internet Connection And Requires Many Reboots To Re-connect

Sep 5, 2010

I am using Ubuntu Studio 10.04 LTS and I am experiencing the following problem: my computer loses its Internet connection and appears to require several reboots to re-establish an Internet connection.

As suggested on a similar post relating to wireless connection loss, I supply the output of sudo lshw -C network

*-network
description: Ethernet interface
product: NetLink BCM5789 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
vendor: Broadcom Corporation

[Code].....

Note that I have REMOVED my wireless card in case there was some kind of hardware conflict or failure. I am using a wired connection through a Linksys WRT54G router that is supplying an Internet connection to another computer and an IP phone without any problem.

When I run the command network-admin (or select System > Administration > Network) I can see only 3 tabs (General, DNS and Hosts) It seems that the Connections tab has disappeared (and I believe this happened when I upgraded from Ubuntu 9/Karmic Koala). If I click Help it shows me that there should be 4 tabs, not 3.

The connection dropping began prior to my decision to upgrade. In fact it took several attempts to complete the upgrade. Should I attempt to re-install the upgrade? I am not sure how to do it without losing my connection. When I visit System > Administration > Update Manager, I am informed that my system is up to date.

Networking :: Connecting Wirelessly With Newly Installed Fedora 14?

Jan 6, 2011

I finally got the driver to be installed and to be associated with the network adapter. Now the issue is the wireless network adapter won't connect to my wireless network. I am new to Linux, and am trying to get my Fedora 14 to work online, without needing to constantly be wired in (what's the point of having a laptop if you have to be stationary). Anyways my network has WPA2 personal security with a TKIP + AES encryption (I switched it from solely AES because I thought that might have been the issue).I've heard a lot of good things about Linux, but so far its been frustrating trying to get this wireless connection working. I am currently taking a course on Linux, and I am using the opportunity to learn about and maybe switch over to a Linux OS which I have heard so much good stuff about in my previous courses.

Ubuntu :: Remove The Newly Installed 10.10 Without Damaging The Other OS?

Mar 22, 2011

I had a dual boot system (Ubuntu 10.04 and XP) and had a problem with my XP and had to reinstall it. Unfortunately I forgot to backup the boot file. After the re-installation of XP, I can't load Ubuntu 10.04 anymore, so I booted up Ubuntu 10.10 using USB, during the install, it didn't give an option to do a repair, so I did an install along with other OS. After the install, the GRUB showed now 3 OS:

Ubuntu 10.10
Win XP
Ubuntu 10.04

How can I remove the newly installed Ubuntu 10.10 without damaging the other OS? I'd like to keep the 10.04 because it's all customized and have several apps already installed.
