Ubuntu Networking :: Sweex 150N USB, Windows Driver Installed But Still No Connection?
Jan 24, 2010
I used to have a PCi wireless card but decided to upgrade to a 802.11n device. I run the lshw -C network command and no output is shown for the usb dongle. I have installed ndiswrapper and it states the driver is installed, but a popup always appears stating that Ubuntu cannot recognise if the hardware is present, but once this is closed the remaining window shows the dongle is present. So Ubuntu (9.10 btw) can recognise the card is present in the windows driver window, but not in lshw -c network. Any ideas?
There are a number of posts about older Sweex products with different chipsets, but none seem to answer my query. NB my chipset is Ralink RT3070
I can only connect via wire beacuse ubuntu doesn't appear to have drivers for my adapter (the 150n) which uses the RaLink RT2870 (or 3070 this part I'm not totally clear on). Thats all fine and dandy, Intellinet supply the driver, but heres the clincher, I downloaded the driver, and realised with a grand "ahhh crap", I really had no idea where to go from there (if you find yourself needing to back away from this thread now, i understand)
oh and if you're wondering why i got ubuntu without knowing how to do something as simple (I'm sure this is all very basic stuff) as this, its because everything elsse (EVERYTHING) is working perfectly, including my dvd drive which claimed (under windows rule) that it was broken, its just the damn internet, and im getting a wee bit tired of hunching over a computer arranged on the floor, inconveniently placed so i can use the wire-
I downloaded ubuntu 10.10 in my PC alongside with windows 7 yesterday. However it could not detect my wireless LAN then with some hardwork I was able install the wireless device driver but still no internet!
Good afternoon, I have a PC with Kubuntu 10.04 and a PCI Wireless Mymax MWA/PCI-150N RT3060F chip, I am not able to install, configure the system, I downloaded the driver on the site [URL]... php? s = 2, RT3062PCI/mPCI/CB/PCIe (RT3060/RT3062/RT3562/RT3592) and follow the procedures but it still fails, the card comes up in the connections but no signal scans.
I have installed Lubuntu on my dell Latitude C400. Recently I had Unbuntu, but my system was to slow for it. The wireless worked when I installed sl-modem-daemon_2.9.11~20100303-2_i386.deb, however this does not work with Lubuntu. I have used the ndiswrapper to install a driver from windows, and still it is not installed. After iwconfig i get lo no wireless extensions eth1 no wireless extensions
The other problem is this laptop has no cd dive and the ethernet connection does not work, so I can t do updates.
I have a Netgear WNA-1000 that I can't get recognized on any of my Ubuntu boxes (8.10, 9.04, 9.10). This page says that it should work with the ar9170usb driver, and that this driver is already part of the mainline Linux kernel as of 2.6.30. It also noted that ar9170usb does not claim this device's USB-ID at this time.
How do I (a) get this driver to recognize and work with my WNA-1000 under 9.10?
(b) get this driver installed and working under the older versions of Ubuntu that I also have?
I was running Ubuntu 9.04 Gnome version and installed LXDE with the lxdnm network manager. (by default, this would not have been loaded.. ) LXDE loaded up without network support The network tools applet shows the loopback interface active ETH0 is inactive. How do I activate it.. Also a network device PAN0 is shown, also inactive.
I've just installed Ubuntu 10 as a last resort to save my laptop from the bin. However, I'm having similar issues to when I installed 9.x a few months back. First off, I have no network connection at all (using another laptop just now). I've plugged in the network cable from the modem and although it looks to be doing something, it doesn't establish a connection. The wireless is also not connected due to Firmware not installed. I remeber this was a common issue with the Broadcom 43xx modem but I need to get the wired network going first to be able to download drivers *I think*.
I installed the AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.6.tar.gz driver for my new motherboard, model Gigabyte S-series G31M-ES2L on my ubuntu 8.10 system with the following errors:
wstay@wstay-ubuntu8:~$ ls Desktop Documents Examples Music Pictures Public Templates Videos wstay@wstay-ubuntu8:~$ cd Desktop/ wstay@wstay-ubuntu8:~/Desktop$ ls AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.6.tar.gz ubuntu8.10-menu.lst

Even though having already spent many hours trying to connect to the internet from Ubuntu, I still haven't done it succesfully. What I've done so far:
Code: nuno@Houdini:~$ ndiswrapper -l WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release. WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release. bcmwl5 : driver installed device (14E4:4318) present (alternate driver: ssb)
On the bar at the top, under 'Wireless Networks' it reads: "disconnected".
I am very new to Ubuntu and if I could get internet I'm sure I would love it as it appears very speedy! I don't want to resort to reloading Windows just because of this!I've managed to install the RT2870.inf driver for my Belkin wireless adaptor but couldn't install the sys file. Hence my adaptor still won't work - well I think this is why but hoping someone can enlighten me step by step.
I'm using a Dell with Broadcom bcmwl6.inf driver. I tried the guides using ndiswrapper, but they didn't work for me. What worked was simply going to System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers and activating the Broadcom STA proprietary driver. That sounds great, but every time I restart, I have to remove and install the driver from Hardware Drivers.
What should I do to keep the driver loaded and claimed at the start. This is my lshw -C network before and after removing and installing wireless card driver.
I've read a lot about wireless network cards but I haven't found something similiar to my problem. I've a belkin wireless card F5D7000tt and its driver bcmwl5.inf. I think I've correctly installed it because when I use "ndiswrapper -l" i get:
WARNING: all config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future realease. bcmlw5.inf: driver installed device (14E4:4320) present (alternate driver : ssb)
But when I go to Hardware Drivers I see that "Broadcom B43 wireless driver" is not enabled, and when a try to enable it I get an error message:"We are sorry, but the installation of this driver failed. Check the register archive to see more details: /var/log/jockey.log"
I have no internet available, but the driver seems to be installed (kernel driver r8169). I'll follow the steps for posting on the wireless forum this time:
1) I'm using a desktop. Intel Core i7-870 2.93Ghz 8md Quad Core. Motherboard is an ASRock H55M-LE LGA1156. 4GB RAM DDR3.
2) The wireless card is:
p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } 01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03) Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Device 8168 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 28 I/O ports at c800 [size=256] Memory at cfdff000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=4K]
i found this quote: WPA/WPA2 are broken in every module everybody has tried (AFAIK) since Adam's 1.7.1.1 DKMS driver. Downgrade like so: 1) Get the driver from [URL]... 2) Go to terminal, and move the pre-installed driver so it won't get loaded. cd /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/rt2860/ sudo mv rt2860sta.ko rt2860sta.bak. 3) Install rt2860-dkms_1.7.1.1_all.deb. It will also install dependencies needed to compile the driver. If it doesn't retrieve the right packages, make sure "build-essential", "linux-header-generic" and "dkms" is installed. Let it run and it should complete without a problem. 4) Restart. The new driver should work automatically. the deb file gives me an error.
I have just installed 10.04 on a dell inspiron laptop, but the wireless adapter will not work. I uses a broadcom BCM4312. When I click on the wireless icon, it says "firmware missing". Normally, I would connect to look for proprietary drivers, but my problem is that I live in an apartment complex with only wifi.
So my question is, A) does this sound like a driver problem, and B) if so, how can I get the necessary driver installed (after downloading it with another laptop) when I use lshw, it does show the wireless device, by says that it is disabled. I tried following the directions here [URL]... (changing "ieee80211_crypt_tkip" with "lib80211_crypt_tkip" due to the rename in 2.6.29. I think that is correct), but that did not work either.
I have an ibm think pad and for some reason the internet(firefox) stop working and i don't know why , the netwprl settings have disappeared or anything on fixing it , yes i have tried restarting the modem but that hasn't work ethier Also i don't really know where the re-start disk so is there anyway i can fix it with out the disk?
Installed 9.10 side-by-side with Vista, then installed the Broadcom STA wireless driver, rebooted to activate it no luck, no connection, neither wireless nor wired. Did this several times. Getting online in Vista works fine.
Here's the system I'm using:
HP tx2500z laptop Vista Home Premium SP1 AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile processor RM ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card Broadcom 4322AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter Realtek RTL 8186C (P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
Before I start off, I must say that I know NOTHING about Ubuntu. I only know how to run .deb files. So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.
I installed a clean installation of ubuntu 10.04 inside Windows 7 and wireless worked normally in the beginning that I downloaded and installed all the updates "I selected without updating Grub".On the first reboot after updates, the wireless icon disappeared from the panel and could not connect to the internet although the settings in the Networking tools were correct.
I have an HP Pavilion Dv6-1230US laptop that I bought from staples when it was on sale for 800 dollars with a 4 year accidental damage warranty. It came with Vista Home Premium 64Bit installed. It had Windows 7 Business 64Bit on it at one point, And the latest windows installation was Windows Vista Business 32Bit. My trial period ran out on vista and I switched to Ubuntu 10.04 32Bit, and, as always, I have a problem with the wireless card. I have looked it up and everything, i do have the drivers installed, and it looks functional, but its not. It will act like its going to connect to my AP (Netgear WNR3500L that is like 2 days old), but it eventually askes me for my WPA2-Personal AES key, which I have supplied, and is correct before hand, i type the exact same thing in and it still doesn't work.
I've tried sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade, but it doesn't work. nothing has to update. This installation was installed today, and updated about 6 hours ago to the fullest extent. The wired works absolutely perfect (that's how i updated it). Hardware:Laptop has a Broadcom 4322AG b/g/draft-n wireless card from HP integrated into the laptop. The router is a Netgear WNR3500L which i bought because we are switching ISP's soon and our old router is a modem, that will only work on a DSL connection.
my laptop has a proprietary Broadcom STA wireless while in live CD, I can go system>administration>hardware drivers, and activate the driver however, when I have ubuntu installed into the hard drive, and go to system>administration>hardware drivers, ubuntu attempts to connect to the internet to look for the driver and fails I can't find the option to choose the driver in the computer. I even inserted the live CD into the disc drive, and still no luck. How to install the wireless driver without wireless connection? Is it possible to install the driver manually?
I recently had my AE 1000 linksys wireless adapter driver installed, the info for which can be found here:
[URL]
But today I was presented with 142 automatic updates already downloaded waiting to be installed on my computer. I installed the updates and restarted my computer for the updates to take effect. Well, since then my wireless adapter no longer registers at all, it doesn't even recognize my router let alone connect to it. It is as inoperable as the day I got it.
I am currently using a different computer in the house to get internet. Should I go about following the same directions I did before and reinstall the driver, or is there a more simple way?
Here's the situation: I've got an eee pc 901 running Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix. I'm using it to connect to a WPA-encrypted wireless network on a WRT54GL running dd-wrt. It mostly connects and works ok, but sometimes it just stops working for no apparent reason (the netbook still shows itself as connected), but you can't get anywhere until you manually disconnect and reconnect. Other times, it will drop the connection, and then quickly reconnect (or sometimes not). Obviously, this behavior is pretty irritating. At first I thought the problem was with the router, but I checked the logs there and they all seem fine, and other computers on the same router don't have this problem. Looking at "dmesg | tail" on my netbook, I see a lot of instances of the following error, which I'm thinking is probably the problem:
I searched for that error message and I found this Ubuntu bug report: [URL] that describes symptoms that match mine. In that report, a poster mentions that he compiled and installed a new version of the wireless driver from the Ralink website, and it fixed his problem. Do you think installing a new driver would be good? Or has that updated driver already been added to the kernel since that bug report was filed? I've never compiled a kernel module before.
One other thing, I also see repeated instances of these lines (or similar ones) in dmesg, which look like they could be related. Code: [44096.275923] RX DESC f30ca000 size = 2048 [44096.276885] <-- RTMPAllocTxRxRingMemory, Status=0 [44096.281404] --> Error 2 opening /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat [44096.281424] 1. I installed newest Ubuntu system, 11.04, Natty-Narwhal, and PC is running smoothly. It is solid machine, Celeron 430, 1 gb of DDR2 memory and I have both LAN card and graphics integrated on the mobo which is MSI 7529, based on G31/P35/P31 chipset.
I plugged lan cable directly from my PC to the ADSL router. There is another Win Xp machine on the same router and it has connection, and internet is working fine. Right now Im writing from the Win 7 laptop, which is connected to the same router via wifi link... all working like a charm...
But, when I plug the Ubuntu desk I cannot get access to bot lan and internet...
I searched the net and it seems that ubuntu didnt install proper driver during the OS installation. Here are some diagnostics of the current config and state:
Code: Module Size Used by binfmt_misc 13213 1 snd_hda_codec_realtek 255820 1 code....
As you can see I need to install driver named r8101 instead this one r8169 and I think it will work that way. I found driver here only problem is dont know how to replace them.
Im having trouble with my hp mini 110, i read abit of information about it on the site and installed a package that gets my wifi working, problem being is that as soon as I go upstairs i lose connection, its not really upstairs if I move more than 5 feet away from my router no internet although the laptop reads full signal.
I believe its a problem with the broadcom drivers, is there anyway to resolve this or do I have to go back to Windows 7 because I really dont wanna do that.
I don't have a wired connection to internet. I have only a wifi connection. Is there any I could download a driver and install or myself in fedora 14??
I just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.
