When I log in on my PC with ubuntu 10.10 after a few seconds it just crashes the session and put the login screen, How can I see the log to know what was the issue? eventhough i think it is related to vnc-java when it is started at the begining of the session.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am on Ubuntu Lucid (updated till date). I am using Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic Recently I am not being able to run Cheese (webcam tool). When run it is crashing. Upon starting it from prompt I noticed the following error : libv4lconvert: Error decompressing JPEG: fill_nbits error: need 2 more bits The program 'cheese' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.

I checked in Skype and there the webcam is working fine. I tried with Camorama but that always gives an error "Could not connect to /dev/video0, please check connections."
I am having big problems with my laptop. I use a wubi install of Ubuntu 11.04 atm.
This happens like 2/3 times a day, basically I will just be doing something normal on the laptop, then suddenly the screen goes black with white writting - none of which makes sense to me

My set up is internal hard drive Windows 7, external Ubuntu Karmic. The reason I have it this way, despite Linux being my main OS, is because my internal hard drive is 6 years old and half the capacity of my external new one. Have tried quite a few set ups with various Linux platforms, but have finally settled on above. As yet, I don't know Linux or Ubuntu all that well. Getting somewhere, but it's a steep learning curve.
Because of constant errors reinstalling WinXP - umpteen installations and it keeps crashing - the problems are with security updates and SP3 - I finally bit the bullet and intalled Win 7. I only need Windows for a few essential programs or I'd happily never look at it again, so it filled me with horror doing this, but I couldn't take the crashes any more. So, today, Win 7 installs just nicely. However, I can no longer boot my external Ubuntu hard drive. The error is, 'Grub loading stage 1.5... Grub loading please wait... Error 15'. I load up the live cd, but when I try to follow instructions given to other people with Error 15 (editing files, accessing root) I don't have permissions.
Trying to transfer to claws mail from kmail, I have problem in sending emails: It doesn't send email through one of my accounts (a university account) and says: An "error happened during SMTP session". My other university account works!

"sudo apt-get dist-upgrade".
I will always get an error pop-up and a error message in terminal saying

My fedora 14 has OpenSSH_5.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0a-fips 1 Jun 2010 running. I am able to use putty to ssh to my fedora. I installed NXSERVER - Version 3.2.0-74-SVN OS (GPL, using backend: 3.3.0) but when i used nxclient to connect to the server i always got 'session x' failed.

I have some typical issue while trying to connect to my root or other users from my terminal.
like su - asking for password and after that it displyed a message like $su -

Background: Before this happended, I was tryied modify sshd_config in /etc/ssh/ folder to allow passwords less than 2 words.
I recently switched distributions, I let a guy talk me into switching from Ubuntu 8.04 to Mint 9. Since the switch, I have had a lot of issues that I have mainly worked out myself. I have posted all of it on the Mint forum, but there hasn't been much help available there. I have been told that Mint 9 is based on the newest release of Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx), so I thought I would post over here to see if anyone could help me. The only thing that's still giving me fits are the 3 software programs above. Using k9copy and trying to burn directly to disc, I am getting the error that I took the screenshot of. I then burned it as an iso image and saved it, then tried to use k3b and brasero to burn it that way and got errors with both of those programs.

Is there a session manager I can use with 10.10? I would like to try Openbox but am not sure how to select it as a startup session. I would like to be able to choose between kde, gnome and openbox.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a very bad attempt at hashing the components of an tcp session to assign/locate the session in a hash table bucket. I am pretty sure that it has a very high collision rate and when there are a very large number of tcp sessions my application is having to search a long linked list to find the session within the bucket.
All the hashing functions I have found take a single string input where I need to input several integers and hash them into a single result. My guess is that any real hashing function is going to produce better results than what I am currently doing.

I installed goblin by run GoblinUI.ymp and logged out.
After I logged out, I chose meego as session type and tried to login again.
I entered correct password, but when I press enter after type password , display change to black and got some message and backed to login session again.
On the other hand, I succeed in running MeeGo Live CD(1.0.1 build 1.4).
I wrote MeeGo Live CD image on USB Flash Driver by using Win32 Disk Imager, and boot that one successfully, although it has some flaw.
Network Settings Window is stuck in workspace and can't move or close, so it cover other appication's window. Internet on toolbar is broken, so I have to run FireFox in application toolbar to use internet.
I'm using Netbook based on Atom CPU and GMA.OpenSUSE installed in my netbook is installed by KDE Live CD image.
Should I Use Gnome to use Goblin, because MeeGo is using Gnome? Or.... what is problem make Goblin doesn't work?

After finally getting libptp2 to compile I find that ptpcam does not work. This has worked perfectly fine before with the same camera using Slackware 12.0, I am now using Slackware 13.1 and ptpcam will simply not work. The error is as follows:

I have verified that the camera is working in Windows 7 on the same physical computer and I can see the camera from lsusb and dmesg output when I connect it to the USB system. When i try to create a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation iso file, everything goes as planned untill i click on the start button. when i click on it i get two error messages. the first: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908). The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. I have centos 5.3 i got the login screen but after logging shows error as-- your session only last less than 10 seconds . if you have not logged out yourself tyhis could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may out of disk space .try logging with one of fail session.

I installed slackware 12.1 from files i downloaded and converted to cd (images). There are six "disks" i downloaded from the slackware site and converted to images via a homemade .cmd in windows xp and then burned using imgburn.
I partitioned my hd (canibalized from an acquaintance's emachine and connected it to my desktop (1G ram, 2Ghz processor). Booted from disk 1 and fomatted the 80G HD for 2 partitions of linuxswapable at 2G apeice and 2 partitions of bootable linux. (Because i want to try another distro later). I ran the setup installing most everything and all seemed to go well. After i exited setup and restarted, it identifed the cd/hd as normal and then went into some sort of recovery mode with the emachine logo call pcangel, after which it tells me.
STOP: c0000021a (fatal system error) The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000). the system has been shut down. So, is this indeed an xp error message, and if so, why am i getting it after formatting everything?

I very rarely use xfce and I don't quite know what exo is, but I'd like to fix this problem if it's not too involved.
I am putting together some new systems for my customer and I'm having some trouble with a script that we use to back up files to a DVD R. The problem is that I can't write a 2nd session to the DVD unless I eject the disk and reload it. The drives are slimline type drives, Sony BD-5730S and Teac DV-W28S-V93, so they won't reload without human intervention. Opsys is CentOS 5.4 or RHEL 5.4. I've tried both AMD and Intel based mother boards. If i try this on Fedora 11 or 12 it works fine. This works on IDE attached drives but not a SATA attached drives. Fedora appears to use something called genisoimage instead of mkisofs. I can't get genisoimage to run on CentOS or RHEL.

I was just mucking about in xfce, trying out new window buttons in conjunction with the black theme - dusk?? - when POW! - X shut down. Rebooting didn't restore things. Error is along these lines:
