Software :: Wireless - Can't Browse With Firefox

Jul 21, 2009

this is really software and not hardware. So, my wife trashed her Windows laptop with a lovely virus for the third time this year. I told her that three strikes and she's going to somewhere she can do no harm: Linux. So, her personal laptop is an old HP-Compaq from 2004.

It took Ubuntu 9.0.4 like a champ, wireless and everything working. I expected nothing less. OK but here's the problem, on the wireless connection, not the wired connection, she can't browse with Firefox. Oh, I can ping external IPs, I can ping external host names and I can browse from the CLI with Lynx. I know this is going to be something really obvious but I am stumped.

Fedora Networking :: F14: Ping, But Can't Browse Using Firefox?

Background: In attempting to move from XP to linux, I have a F14 live USB stick -- can boot Dell M6400, see the internal drive and USB sticks. Wired ethernet network is seen only if ethernet cable is plugged in before booting. Then, I can ping sites by name (yahoo.com, google.com) -- however, FireFox does not load any web-page over the internet -- it does not put up an error message either, it just keeps waiting (it is in on-line mode).Info on the system

CentOS 5 :: Starting Apache But Cannot Browse In Firefox?

Oct 14, 2009

I have a problem, I'm have a course at high school (webserver management) in class this morning we had to install apache, php, ftp and so on but I didn't finish on time so when I got home I was playing around. I'm on wireless here and changed the vm connection from bridge to nat.

normally we had to install apache using yum (yum install httpd) and start the service. that's what I did and then we had to go to firefox (or IE) and type the ip of our server. but when I do I get "problem loading page" instead of the apache default page. I've set httpd runlever 2 to 5 to on and rebooted. but still not working.

Fedora :: Se The Browse Buttons And/or Try And Change To Another Picture, Firefox Crashes

Jan 24, 2010

I have two kinda weird problems that have been preventing me from wasting my time!

1. I can go to a flickr page and see the first picture fine. When I use the browse buttons and/or try and change to another picture, firefox crashes.

2. When viewing pictures in facebook (the only reason I use it is to share pictures with my far-off family who doesn't get to see my kids often) the pictures are very badly pixelated.

I'm using an Acer Aspire laptop (Intel 915 graphics, celeron processor, 1.5GB ram) with a completely up to date Fedora 12 installation. The weird part is, my wife's netbook, (1GB ram, Intel 945 graphics) with Fedora 12, displays everything fine. I'm cometely stumped how one machine is having such issues while another isn't. This problem existed in F10 when I used up until the F12 release so I'm presuming it is a graphics card problem (???) since the software and OS has changed.Does anyone know what might be going on or how I can check?

Ubuntu :: Cannot Browse Internet Or Get IP From Wireless

Jan 16, 2009

I've always been a big fan of linux having used it extensively in the military, came across a really nice looking distro called ubuntu 8.10. I installed it along side Vista on my hp dv7-1170 laptop and dual boot. Worked like a charm found all the drivers for all the hp devices including the webcam bluray etc. So I decided to put ubuntu on exclusively and just run virtualbox ose and put a vista session on there for when I needed it.

So I did that no problems, went and installed all the updates. Between the time I installed the updates and downloaded and installed a server patch to allow it to use all 4gb ram, I lost my inet connection. which was wireless. So I plugged into cat5 outlet and nothing. Just won't get an IP, so I wiped it again and reinstalled. Now I still can't get an IP from wireless or eth0. I can manually assign it an ip and it says connected, but still don't get out.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Browse Internet On Wireless?

Sep 20, 2010

Running Ubuntu 9.10.

I'm connecting to a network via a Belkin F7D1101. The adapter appears to be working fine, as I can see various wireless networks available and I am able to connect to my personal wireless network. The problem is that even though I am connected and have a valid IP, I am unable to browse the Internet. I can't even ping the router!

I initially thought it may be an issue with WPA, but I have installed wpa-supplicant and as a means of testing, I turned off WPA on the router, and the issue still stands.

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache2 - Browse Directories In /var/www From Firefox - Error "The Folder Contents Could Not Be Displayed"

Aug 16, 2011

I recently installed Apache on Lucid Lynx (Macbook 1.1) using the following tutorial: [URL] Everything appears to work correct except that when I browse http://localhost/ in Firefox, I cannot see any of the directories. Although, files such as html documents are visible. When I view the /var/www directory using the default graphical file browser, all of its child directories have Xs over their icons. When I attempt to open the directory "js", the following error message displays:The folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "js".

I figured this was preventing Firefox from viewing the directories. So I launched it with the "gksu" command to see if it would help. I still couldn't see directories when browsing http://localhost/ I'm basically trying to achieve functionality identical to the MAMP local server for Mac OS X. I'm about to start a LAMP project for a new client so having this up and running is important!

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless "connection Established" No Browse No Ping

Jul 7, 2011

Ubuntu 11.04, wireless adapter BCM4312.The connection works for a while, for a random length of time from a few minutes to a few hours, then stops working. The laptop says it's connected, and the router says it's connected, but the browser can't find any Web pages, it can't find the router, and there is no response to pings from the router or any other device on the local network or on the Internet. "Host unreachable." When I try to ping to the laptop from another one, it times out.If I shut down the computer and try again a few hours later, it works fine again for a while, then after a while it stops working again.

In case it's relevant, sometimes when I restart networking from the command line, it says "ignoring unknown interface eth1=eth1," even though ifconfig -a lists eth1 as up with an ip address. eth1 is the wireless adapter. Another laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 connects to the same router with no problems.Using a fixed IP address doesn't change anything.

Ubuntu :: No Firefox With Wireless Broadband?

Jul 29, 2010

I have Ubuntu 9.10 on an Asus EEE900 netbook, and I recently got a Telstra Broadband Wireless modem. I get on line fairly easily, generally the device comes up as a CD and I have to unmount it I know there is a solution to that: [URL] The really annoying problem I have is that I get on line, there is a message to say I have Telstra NextG, Skype works, but Firefox and Evolution often dont connect this is a bit random. I cant see what the problem is, they are not set to Work Offline. I get around the problem by rebooting, sometimes 2 or 3 times, until they do work. There must be a simpler solution here, what could be happening? I have mainly used this computer at home on a wifi connection, without this problem, I just turn it on and everything works.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: 11.4 - Internet Very Slow On Firefox

May 17, 2011

When I had OpenSuSE 11.3 installed originally, I never had any slow internet connection until I erased the hard drive and went to 11.4. This is what my configuration looks like on /usr/sbin/iwconfig:

Cell 01 - Address: AA:AA:BA:BA:AB:BB
Channel:11
Frequency:2.462 GHz (Channel 11)
Quality=70/70 Signal level=-37 dBm
Encryption key: on
ESSID:"housewifiZZZZ" .....

The device I am using is a D-Link DWA-160 which is running the ar9170usb driver (and did on the previous version)

These are the steps I did:
Disable IPv6 from the global tab on Network Settings.
Set DHCP version 4 only in dynamic address in address tab.
Used the anti-IPv6 switches in firefox making these changes
Network.dns.disableIPv6 change from false to true
Network.http.pipelining change from false to true
Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests change from 4 to 8
Added ipv6.disable=1 in DEFAULT_APPEND in Bootloader
(I couldn't find bootloader _APPENDS that was stated in another forum)

Switched from ifup to NetworkManager for Network Setup Method. Reinstalled OpenSuSE 11.4 with Ubuntu 11.04 (to see if it was OS issue) and it still didn't work, so I switched back to OpenSuSE 11.4. Is there anything I did wrong or do I need to do anything additional?

Ubuntu :: Internet Connected With 3G USB Wireless But Firefox Not

Problem seems to be firefox not recognising the live network connection, so any tips or workarounds are welcome.

Nor can I access repositories through wireless.

Tried blacklisting B43 in ssb no change. What in the hell is going on? I've searched forum after forum and tried everything and CANNOT make this happen.
