Software :: Use Apcupsd Or Power Chute With APC SURT1000 In Suse 10.2?
Apr 26, 2010
i've got my linux with new ups apc surt 1000 and it have cd install powerchute, i've googling a while and it took me to apcupsd, is it compatible if i use apcupsd with APC SURT 1000 machine using serial line, and which one is more eat resource cpu between apcupsd and powerchute ?.
And this is the first time i use software like this and it is really true that if i use one of this software it can automatically turn of the cpu machine if ups machine on battery position and it can turn off the ups machine too after cpu machine is turn off first ?
Loud popping sound approx. 11 secs after switching to battery power if audio hasnt been used for awhile (11 secs probably?) It will pop when audio is started (like movie, alert etc etc). It appears to be a power saving problem. And is not occurring for me on other distros, and only started happening recently on OpenSuSE. I found the exact same problem on the OpenSuSE forums dated 2008 (see: [URL]) but no solution as of yet. And by loud popping sound imagine one of those 'black cat' snappers you throw on the ground and they pop, it sounds almost identical.
Is there a way with apcupsd to get current ups status? Like battery percentage left, that kind of thing? I've been struggling trying to get it to work with an old UPS, and after it just made the UPS shut off (causing the server to go down) I decided to just try with my UPS upstairs instead (just wired the management through my patch panel for now). I got it going to the point where it detects a power outage, but is there not a way I can query the status to get more info?
I have it setup to eventually shut down but it would be nice to get status such as how long I have before it does so, and so on. There's a GUI utility that I downloaded but it just says connection refused.
I attempted to install the power management package apcupsd-3.14.8-1.el4.i386.rpm on a vortexbox (Fedora 14) appliance and got the following: error: Failed dependencies: libcrypto.so.4 is needed by apcupsd-3.14.8-1.i386 libnetsnmp.so.5 is needed by apcupsd-3.14.8-1.i386 net-snmp is needed by apcupsd-3.14.8-1.i386 How can I obtain and install these items?
Installed gapcmon 3.14.6 on openSUSE 11.2 using YAST. Have a Back-UPS XS 1500 (model BX1500LCD) connected via USB cable. gapcmon cannot communicate with UPS. Get NIS network error. Had same problem previously and was able to get it working, but can't remember what I did to get it to work. I have included technical details from a hardware scan showing that the connection between my system and USP is working as well as the contents of apcupsd.conf and screenshots.
Can I use apcupsd to monitor my smart-ups 2200 without it being connected to a server? I have set the TCP info on the APC and can telnet into it, but I'm kinda confused by what I've been reading in the apcupsd documentation.
If someone can tell me about there experience doing this and best practice that would be awesome.
I use Squeeze with Xfce. My problem is that recently (after the xfce updates) the xfce power manager doesnt react to the power button - it is set to suspend. I dont have gnome-power manager or anything like it running. If i reboot the computer, the power button will work but if i suspend and resume, it doesnt work again. The computer is built on an Asus M3N78-VM mobo (2GB RAM/Athlon3200+ single core).
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit and I purchased a new ALFA AWUS036H wireless card. I would like to know if this "1Watt" wireless card is configured for full power. iwlist wlan0 txpower results:
wlan0 unknown transmit-power information. Current Tx-Power=27 dBm (501 mW). It appears to me that I should be able to increase the power. "iwpriv wlan0 highpower 1" does not work. Do I need to patch the new default driver that comes with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with the aircrack one following these directions:[URL]...? Monitor mode and a injection tests seem to work fine with the driver I have installed.
I'm looking for any power monitoring devices for Linux to allow monitoring power quality, voltage changes, and outages. This would be for North American three phase power system. I want to have this data fed live to my own program. It should be something much better than just jury-rigging a circuit to fee the power waveform into 2 or 3 audio cards.
I had unplugged my PC last night as sometimes there's storms at night this morning I plugged in PC and the power light is blinking and the PC wont come on at all tried different power cord, same result
PC is a AMD athlon64 3300+ 2.4ghz SiS graphics
probably the power-supply or what?
If it is the power supply, how do I find new one as I've never had to replace anything on it or any other PC?
Also, I really need access to the hard drive but it's a weird hard drive and was wondering if I could put that hard drive in my K7 PC, which already has 2 drives in it can a pc have 3 drives? do I have to add/have another ribbon cable for 3rd drive?
On the last release, I had this app installed where I could pick my power profile. I could use power conservatively, and performance would suffer a bit, but longer batt life,or I could have it automatically detect, or I could have the apps use all the power they want and then some. I'm looking to reinstall that app. What was the name of it?I can't remember, and so far, can't find.
After much research, I have found the solution to my intermittent wireless problem!Whenever the laptop is plugged into power, wireless is perfect, when I'm on battery, wireless is horrible. Here is the fix:
Code: sudo iwconfig eth1 power off Unfortunately, I have to type this in everytime I unplug the laptop.
I bought this laptop several years ago. It had Vista. Just long enough for me to download SUSe, nuke and pave the HD and install Linux. Recently I upgraded from 1 GB to 4 GB of RAM, the maximum that is allowed given the motherboard (based on from what I am able to learn the Intel 945 chipset).
After upgrading to 4 GB, the machine (according to "My Computer") only sees 2.9 GB. I understand that under an earlier version of the BIOS that the machine would not recognize the RAM correctly. Additionally the "My Computer" page lists the display as "Intel 945GM". My problem is that I can find no Linux utility to flash the BIOS on this machine-- Toshiba only provides the BIOS included in an .exe file for either XP or Vista. I am hesitant to use the BIOS for the Intel 945 series motherboards from their site.
I am running memory test on SUSE, Memory test is just writing some patterns into a memory and reading it back in all CPU threads. After a while, when memory test is running in the background , I am trying to reset the system by echo b> /proc/sysrq-trigger command, Upon SUSE warm reset , I am seeing some UNCORRECTABLE MEMORY ERROR in model specific register (MSR : 0x421),
I am seeing this behavior on one of my server which has huge amount of memory.,Have you ever seen this UCECC error when SUSE generates warm reset when memory test in the background ?
I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.
OK... I tried everything i could think of... but i still cannot get my Open SUSE 11.1 to mount my samba share at boot! When i am adding a user using "useradd -d /home/test test" or "useradd test", it is now creating the home directory, whereas when i am using the graphical mode and going through several menu options, i am getting the home directory.
I am new to Linux and wow, it did not take me long to run into a huge snag. I am running Suse Linux Enterprise 10 on a laptop and by some strange reason the computer froze from overheating and I was forced to shutdown improperly. Once I restarted it booted right to the command prompt when it usually instead boots to the default user. I managed to get gnome running using the "startx gnome" command. But when gnome loads, none of my normal extentions load like my wireless driver, the sound driver, etc. how to restore gnome to automatically load the default user on start up or fix any other damage I might have done? lol
i have windows 7 installed on my laptop and working fine..i want to install Open Suse 11.2 along side. I tried installing by booting with DVD for Suse. But it gave me warning to delete the windows partition.I would like to keep the partition intact with windows 7 and install Suse. Any suggestions ?I can create partition on my laptop but i do not want to modify the current windows structure.
how to install a D-Link Access Point on Suse 11.0 or steer me toward documentation that will do that? I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly. The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. The computer itself is going to be used as a small home storage server.
I have a disturbing problem with my monitor which goes to sleep (or ??) after few minutes if my comp is not used and most of the time I have to restart my comp.I disabled everything in Powersave , but nothing. I did have that problem in previous versions of SUSE, but somehow, I solved that. I cant remember what I did then.
I've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition. However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
Recently my computer was infected by several viruses and my brother cleaned it up and installed SuSe for me. He also put windows xp back on my system for our children. I am having a terrible time installing our Dell 924 printer. I have it installed for windows, but cannot get it to print for my Linux system. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone give me some direction?
i've had a windows xp pro where the printer epson aculaser c900 is shared. When i wan't to print from linux. When i look on dhe xp pc the files are in the print qeue. But the printer give no print out.
I bought Huawei E156 HSDPA data card. Able to connect to internet with windows PC by using this data card. But I would like to test the card with linux PC where I have Suse 11.1 installed. Is there any one to help out how can I test ?
I was tryin to install virtualbox on Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 and it said it needs pad-devil. I looked in the software archive that came with sled 11 but it wasnt there. I tried downloading the VirtualBox install for Suse Linux Enterprise Server but got the same error as when i tried install VirtualBox with the opensuse 11.1 rpm file. can virtualbox even be install on sled? (has anyone done it?) and if so where can i find pam-devil?
When i am adding a user using "useradd -d /home/test test" or "useradd test", it is now creating the home directory, whereas when i am using the graphical mode and going through several menu options, i am getting the home directory. Don't know what is missing.
So ive got a Suse server up and running. It is connecting to a clearcase server, so i want to mount the remote filesystem as part of startup, as this is generally rebooted when im not around.I would normally add something to /etc/init.d and put the shortcut to it in the appropriate runlevel (in this case 3). Tried that. Didnt work.
Realised the init script needed to have the LBS stuff at the start, so put that in, and used insserv to add the script. I used required-start set to $ALl.This successfully created the init script with S20, and i eneabled it with chkconfig.
