Instead there is an "X" and the text for K3B in it.From the main menu -> more applications -> multimedia, is where the K3B icon is.Yast2 is supposed to install any dependencies needed or warn if it can not find any missing dependencies. What is missing, or is it a permission problem? All the other application icons seem fine.

The network is reported as being open and active but when I click on the Windows network icon a dialogue reports that " unable to mount location, failed to retrieve share list from server. What have I missed. I have tried other distros such as PClinuxOS and that connected automatically so there is no physical problems with my wired network. My Workgroup is MSHOME and my host is Home1.

Now I'm unable to run any command whatsoever as root, ls,vi,cnf whatever, they don't work.
However the commands work as normal user.
I can guess that the files with root ownership in the home folder were deleted but I would like to revert everything back to normal and would like to know how to solve this problem.
So ive got a Suse server up and running. It is connecting to a clearcase server, so i want to mount the remote filesystem as part of startup, as this is generally rebooted when im not around.I would normally add something to /etc/init.d and put the shortcut to it in the appropriate runlevel (in this case 3). Tried that. Didnt work.
Realised the init script needed to have the LBS stuff at the start, so put that in, and used insserv to add the script. I used required-start set to $ALl.This successfully created the init script with S20, and i eneabled it with chkconfig.

I bought this laptop several years ago. It had Vista. Just long enough for me to download SUSe, nuke and pave the HD and install Linux. Recently I upgraded from 1 GB to 4 GB of RAM, the maximum that is allowed given the motherboard (based on from what I am able to learn the Intel 945 chipset).
After upgrading to 4 GB, the machine (according to "My Computer") only sees 2.9 GB. I understand that under an earlier version of the BIOS that the machine would not recognize the RAM correctly. Additionally the "My Computer" page lists the display as "Intel 945GM". My problem is that I can find no Linux utility to flash the BIOS on this machine-- Toshiba only provides the BIOS included in an .exe file for either XP or Vista. I am hesitant to use the BIOS for the Intel 945 series motherboards from their site.
I intend to re-install open suse 11.2, 32-bit. On a previous install,suse did not provide a grub entry for ubuntu.My current setup has

I've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.

I am new to Linux and wow, it did not take me long to run into a huge snag. I am running Suse Linux Enterprise 10 on a laptop and by some strange reason the computer froze from overheating and I was forced to shutdown improperly. Once I restarted it booted right to the command prompt when it usually instead boots to the default user. I managed to get gnome running using the "startx gnome" command. But when gnome loads, none of my normal extentions load like my wireless driver, the sound driver, etc. how to restore gnome to automatically load the default user on start up or fix any other damage I might have done? lol

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've pre-partitioned my HDD and want to install 11.2 on the second primary partition.However, when using the installer, I can't get Suse to install on the prepared 20gb partition - it keeps insisting it wants to install on the large unallocated section of the drive.
I find the partitioner somewhat hard to use and the answer may be staring me in the face but I can't see it.
We currently have a NFS shared Directory mounted as read-only on our server.This directory contains multiple sub-directories and files. It being read-only is a equirement. Now, we need a directory underneath to be read-write. Is there a graceful way to make that happen? Like a special mount option to use? Basically objective is: /u01 is mounted as read-only and has 3 directories: dir1, dir2, dir3 dir3 has 2 sub-directories- sub1,sub2/u01/dir3/sub2 needs to be read-write, while all other are read-only.

I looked in the software archive that came with sled 11 but it wasnt there. I tried downloading the VirtualBox install for Suse Linux Enterprise Server but got the same error as when i tried install VirtualBox with the opensuse 11.1 rpm file. can virtualbox even be install on sled? View 2 Replies View RelatedI just setup a SuSE 11.3/64 server and I am trying to setup pptpd for a vpn. I noticed thatg the ppp0 (or any pppx) interface is non-exoisting and I think that that is the problem why my gre packages are not being sent by pptpd (as I have checked all other options). I have tcp port 1723, and protocol port 47 (gre) open on the firewall (SuSEfirewall2). I have traced the responses using tcpdump and only when the server sends gre to the remote client, the client never receives it (the 1723 connection is established). I checked the old server (SuSE 10.2) that worked the vpn fine, and the only thing missing on 11.3 is ppp0. All other hardware (routers, etc.) are the same. I suspect that pptpd tries to use ppp0 and the interface is non-existing. I can remotely ssh to the server, dns works, samba works, everything else works. Is it something I am missing? How do I create if ppp0 and link it to eth3, the internet gateway?
As always, a windoze tech crashed the old server and I had to setup the new one in a hurry, just before going on vacation, and people want this done by yesterday? They paid $$$$ to the windoze tech (who said Linux is obsolete) even after he almost brought the company down!
