I have installed UEC and eucalyptus and all its packages on a single pc.there are the instruction on the site to do this..after successfully configuring all the setting when I reboot it hangs and remains in the same position.It showing error that eucalyptud-cc teminated with exit status 1 and retrying spawning etc.
View 6 RepliesI would like to know the best way to dual boot an already installed Win7 HDD, with adding a second HDD to which I will install Mint9?
I have attempted this in the past with Mint8, but managed to screw it up some how with Mint 8`s Beta Grub2! So bear with me if I am skittish on repeating a "conventional" Grub bootloader selection approach!
This time I would prefer to install Mint9 to it`s own HDD with Win7 disconnected if possible, and installing Mint`s Grub bootloader directly to the Mint HDD installation, just to insure Win7s MBR isn't affected by the Mint9 installation, by keeping each O.S. and it`s bootloader completely separate and apart. Of course then comes the question of how to access my new Mint 9 installation, since reconnecting my Win7 HDD (with it`s MBR) will become the default, with no knowledge of any Mint installation.
Would a third party bootloader such as "Easy BCD" be the way to go? Or am I over complicating what I would like to accomplish here? The main thing is: NOT having to upset my twice installed Win7 installation again!
I initially had Win XP Service pack 2 installed on my system. Then i installed the desktop version of Ubuntu 10.04 (dual boot). All was fine until then. I could access both. Later on, i re-installed Win XP (excessive errors). After this I'm unable to boot into Ubuntu. The option that comes at the start 'Win Xp or Ubuntu' doesn't appear at all. System boots directly into XP.
But in the Administrative Tools > Disk Management option under Win XP, there is an unknown partition of 15.3 GB. So i'm guessing Ubuntu still exists on my hard drive. Any way to bring Ubuntu back from the dead other than a re-install?
I just installed the Fedora12 on my laptop, on which originally thereas only one partition with Vista before. I resized the Vista partition and made a free space and installed Linux on it.Fedora works fine, but when I try to boot Vista, it opens the system recovery options menu, without being able to do anything. After the end of each option it boots again, giving the two options between Linux and "other" and if I choose "other" it goes back to the recovery menu.
View 9 Replies View Relatedrecently i installed ubuntu 10.04 from a cd to my pendrive. it worked fine but i can boot only with my pen drive inserted. i visited two more threads in this forum with same topic but no answers worked for me(i have not tried any third party mbr repair softwares). i have to go through grub to access my recovery drive which is a part of my hdd.( i do not have any command prompt options in my windows recovery console which is in my hdd. i want to be able to use grub and linux but i dont want to insert my pen drive for every boot.

However one problem troubling me from some time, is whenever I lock the screen and then unlock it, the mouse pointer/curser gets locked for an indefinite time. Then there lefts no option for me except a forceful shutdown/reboot.
In fact, for the synaptic touch-pad that my laptop has, I always have to press fn key + f8 twice to unlock the mouse pointer at every start up but even the same trick doesn't work in my above mentioned problem.
i have installed fedora 12(from dvd) on my laptop having window 7 OS as deafult(intel processor i330)I wanted dual boot up, so I shrink the existing C partition using window using Disk Management. And then delete the newly created volume.Clean installation of fedora.But when I tried to boot window it is showing "No C drive exist".Although from linux all hardrive is coming as one file system and all data on Drive are intact i.e not data is lost.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu 8.10 & Windows XP installed on my PC. I formatted the C: partition and installed a new fresh copy of Win XP. After that I was not able to login to ubuntu 8.10. It is clear that Win XP overwrote the MBR. I tried to re-install the boot loader (Grub) again by boot ubuntu 10.10 CD. Finally, I was able to boot both ubuntu version 8.10 and 10.10. However, I was not able to boot Win XP. There is an entry in grun menu of ubuntu 10.10 specific for WinXP, but when I press enter to boot Windows I get back to grub menu.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy hard disk is a 40 gb seagate drive with 3 logical partitions - C (Win 98), D (Data), E (Win XP Home). Yesterday, I decided to format Win 98 partition and install Fedora 11 on it. I used Live USB, custom partitioned for /, /boot and swap. Installation went fine until the Add/Delete boot screen came when I got multiple Unable to mount partition errors. Then I added Win XP (which was on sda6) and restarted the system. When the system booted, I selected Win XP but it didn't do anything. It showed blank screen and then reverted to grub boot loader screen. Then I selected Fedora time and completed installation and it works fine but XP doesn't boot.
Thinking something might have gone wrong, today I reinstalled Fedora. I chose "Install over previous Linux" and this time the installation went smoothly without any errors. However it still doesn't let me boot into Win XP. It gives a "Booting into WinXP in 3/2/1 seconds" and then goes blank and keeps repeating that message.

i tried to install wine using ./configure and ./tools/wineinstall and i got the following message:

Use the --without-x option if you really want this.
I have 4 partitions in my system, out of which two(sda1, sda2) have windows on them. I have installed RHEL 4 32 - bit on sda3 and after that , installed installed RHEL 64-bit on to a partition sda 5. Now i am unable to boot into RHEL 32-bit. The error i am getting is Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format.

Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. I am running the latest suse release downloaded directly from their website. I ran the installation after buring the dvd and everything seemed to be working fine. after the installation i ran updates and used it for a little bit. When i shut it down that night and went to restart it I got an error that stated the OS wasnt there. I then went through the installation and everything and it retained the information from the installation before (web history etc.) but for some reason every time I reboot or shut it down the system is not able to read the startup information from the hard drive and will not come on without me re installing it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI switch on the PC and it loads the Grub splash screen. However, it does not automatically boot the top entry after two seconds as it's supposed to and just hangs. I hit enter to boot it and it attempts to but after a few seconds gives me the error "unable to mount file system....a maintenance shell will be started"
This occurred after I was using it and then everything suddenly froze up on me and I had to crash out Now this!
Dual Booting my laptop and unable to change the Boot Records on the drive. Not because I dont know how, but my primary OS will fail to boot(win7).
I have drive partitioned as follows...
sda1 = Win7 system (default install)
sda2 = Win7 Main (default install)
sda3 = swap
sda4 = Extension (I think thats what its called)
sda5 = / (ext4)
What I need is a boot cd or perferably Grub installed on a 256MB Thumb drive with the options to load the installed system from sda5.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Windows XP installed on my laptop. Usually when booting, I get the GRUB 2 menu and I can boot into either Ubuntu or XP.I was playing around with EasyBCD, then after trying to remove it I was unable to boot into Windows, I used a Windows 2000 CD recovery console to fix the MBR (using: fixboot and fixmbr).Now Windows starts up when I power on, but I don't get the grub menu anymore with an Ubuntu option. If I boot from the Ubuntu Live CD and try to mount my Ubuntu partition (/dev/sda5) I get this error:

I installed fedora 12 as second os along with ulimtate vista on 64 bit machine.
I was able finish the install and boot to fedora first time. but after updating the software , i am unable to boot into fedora but am able to boot in to vista.
I am using a HP Pavilion HDX9000 notebook series. it has 2 100gb hdd. vista is on c and fedora is on d. boot info was written to MBR on C drive.
Having a major issue with my laptop. I am unable to boot into my Vista installation.I am currently posting this through my Fedora 11 installation which I had already. If anyone is interested, the BSOD error is:

As far as I know, a '7B' BSOD is usually a hard disk error but I am 100% sure the HDD is fine as I can read and write from both Fedora and Knoppix without issue. Steps taken so far: Obviously, I have tried the usual steps of trying to start windows in safe mode, last good config, and all of the F8 options. When they failed, I used fedora to check for some solutions online (Mostly useless answers from MS) and I found one successful case when a person flashed his BIOS back to an earlier time. Unfortunately, I cant get the BIOS update I got from the Dell website to boot from a USB drive (Says invalid boot disc - the BIOS on it is in the .exe format which I can't use in linux) and I do not have a floppy drive on the laptop.
So, I put in my Dell drivers and utilities CD hoping that it would give me some option to update (Or roll back) the BIOS but there was no such option. However, it did give me a load of diagnostic options including repair options by symptom so went with the "Unable to boot from BIOS". Unfortunately, that didnt help me at all. So, I got my Vista installation disc (OEM supplied) and managed to get to the repair menu (Which I had among my F8 options anyway) but this also has the option to reinstall. Unfortunately, it states that "Upgrade is unavailable" and that a clean install is the only thing I can select (At the expense of my files and settings).
As for the repair options, the automatic recovery doesn't seem to find any errors, asks to reset and see if all is well (It isn't). For some reason, system restore doesn't detect any restore points. There are no windows memory errors detected and I have no backups. So, i'm left with a command prompt that, by default, is asking for a file in this folder: X:/WINDOWS/System32/ I have no idea where it is getting the X: drive from - I have C and D drives for windows only. After installing karmic with Grub2 I am unable to boot into Archlinux partition. Grub2 has removed the last line of the Archlinux boot stanza! It used to read:-

Following the Grub2 tutorials I have tried editing /etc/grub.d/40_custom as follows:-

But no luck. Only way into Archlinux is to get into the edit shell and manually add the missing line and remove other stuff not needed. I have spent hours trying to resolve this issue and I am fairly p----d off
I am trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on windows7.windows 7 was already installed.I ollowed these steps to install ubuntu 10.04.1)First i made some freespace in hard disk to install ubuntu using windows7 default options(By shrinking).2)I used USB drive to install ubuntu.I made it bootable using unetbootin.3)I followed normal steps install(language,area,keyboard,using manual partition i installed ubuntu in free space,etc).4)I got boot menu when it restarted.PROBLEM isAs long i use only ubuntu (boot into ubuntu --shutdown--boot into ubuntu --shutdown) it works well.

Have been running ubuntu for sometime now and love its functionality...However since a recent update have the following issues..When I power on the laptop I get the toshiba logo followed by grub loading with the message ' invalid enviroment block" "unable to load default boot entries". When I then try to run the laptop off a LiveCd, the ubuntu splash screen appears with the loading process bar (horizontal line) displayed..however it then appears to display a black screen with no further activity..Now all of this is via an external monitor as my laptop screen shows no activity right from the very start with just a blank screen....so am really stuck here wondering if its a harware/software issue or a combination of both...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony VPCZ13C5E with Intel Core i7 M640 @ 2.8GHz and Windows 7 Prof 64 bit.
It has 4 x 122GB SSD's in one Volume type Raid 0 using Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
The installation prog did not offer to install alongside an existing (Win 7) system, however after installation I was able still to boot Win 7 from the Grub Menu, but the Linux option just gives the black screen of death.
Booting from the 10.10 LiveCD and running sudo fdisk - l gives "unable to seek on /dev/sda". Also I have had a message "unknown filesystem type 'isw_raid_member' although I have forgotten where that came from!
The LiveCD shows that the filesystem does seem to have installed OK on the ext4 partion of 100Gb which I had kept for it, however it will not boot.
The results of Boot_info_script are shown in the attachment Results.txt
I have tried sudo mount /dev/mapper/isw_dijbjabefg_Volume07 /mnt and it gives no errors.
I then tried sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda which gave no errors but when I reboot and choose Linux the result is still the black screen of death.
I understand that the problem may be one of Ubuntu drivers having to catch up with the latest technology but given that Ubuntu can partition the swap file and the ext4 system I seem to be so close.

I have installed windows xp (service pack 2) on my pc. later i formatted a partition (drive E and installed ubuntu linux 8.04. I have provided 2gb space for SWAP partition and remaining for root (/). I have done this manually. Installation was completed, and ubuntu asked me to reboot the system. I did so.
Now comes my problem.......I am getting some DHCP connection or some thing weird.......after that i am getting a message ......and with a message asking me to press any key.....the same thing is coming even after restarting the system....i am unable to see both windows and linux now!
I had to erase a swap partition on a hardrive that has ubuntu in order to install windows xp on another hardrive. After I did it win XP loads on both hadrives. How do I get to Ubuntu and how can I make another swap without having to reinstall the whole ubuntu?
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst time poster, and a first time convert to using linux, have mainly been a Windows man but as a software dev beginning to broaden horizons using linux (and Eclipse is real fast in ubuntu!!) Anyway, my problem:
1. I have installed NX as per this form post: [URL]
2. I can log in via the tty consoles on the actual machine, and can still log in via the NX console (into a kubuntu environment), however, I am unable to log in to gnome or kubuntu via the main logon gui on the actual computer.
When I do attempt to logon to gnome/kubuntu the screen flickers and I return back to the main logon GUI.
3. I have since reverted the port 55555 changes to port 22 in /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg and /etc/ssh/sshd_config - I can still NX onto the box, but point 2 is still a problem.
Why I can't login via the main GUI?
