Whereas i have the same RHEL 5 update 3 in one of the application server, and there :sp works fine. I tried searching online with no success. finding out why its not working on vmware and how can we make it work.

I have a 500G HD with several partitions. I have just added another exact 500G HD and would like to copy the partition table from the first HD to the new HD.What is a good command line partition editor to get the job done? All of my partitions are ext4. I have looked at parted but the man pages says it does not support ext3, so I guess it will not work with ext4 either. What I am ultimately going to do is to set these two HD in a RAID0 configuration without having to re-install Karmic.
Few days back i installed ubuntu 10.10 on my system. Previously i worked on ubuntu 10.04 and used vim too, everything was fine. Now I formatted and upgraded to 10.10, when I use vim I find some of the commands missing for example :AS command used to open corresponding .c and .h files. On 10.04 it worked fine, but in 10.10 its giving error "E492: Not an editor command: AS". How to fix the issue? any missing packages i need to install?
Is there a way to use the grep command in conjunction with an editor such as nano or vi so that I can remove the commented out lines from a conf file and then proceed to edit it ? I can use grep -v "^#^" squid.conf (example ) which gives me a nicely tidy conf file but I can't edit it.Can this command be used with nano or ?
I want to prefix the number of ✔ to corresponding row If I use the command :.s/✔//gn I get output written like '2 matches on 1 line' How can I extract the '2 matches' in above case ?
I want to change the default command line editor from vim to nano, so for example when I type "visudo", I want it to user nano. In Ubuntu this can be easily done by using "update-alternatives --config editor", but openUSE doesn't have an editor-option
I am trying to upgrade PHP on our linux box ( CentOS ) I copied the configure command from the phpinfo and now I want to execute that.I am not able to copy the command from an editor in linux to the command prompt, clicking the wheel om my mouse does not work, neither does shift-insert or ctrl-shift-insert.It does work in the editor itself. Is there a way to do this ?Or is there a way to execute the command in linux while it is in the file ? I installed elog 2.9.2+2014.05.11git44800a72 on my Jessie system. When entering a new post just a simple plain text editing box is shown instead of the WYSIWYG editor, and no drag and drop area for attachments is shown. When I start the elog service with "systemctl start elog" I get this suspect message in the journal: "FCKedit NOT detected".
Indeed, I see that the elog installation creates a symlink which I guess is supposed to point to the fckeditor installation, which nevertheless is missing:
Code: Select allroot@static-3-080:/usr/share/elog/scripts# ll fckeditor lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Oct 25 2014 fckeditor -> ../../fckeditor root@static-3-080:/usr/share/elog/scripts# ll ../../fckeditor ls: cannot access ../../fckeditor: No such file or directory
I installed ckeditor 4.4.4+dfsg1-3 but his did not fix the problem. I'd say that either the elog package is broken or that it misses a dependency on a package providing FCKedit. Or maybe my system is misconfigured?
On windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved. What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line. The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.
When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

I am trying to email some log files from my RHEL 5.3 server to my Outlook corporate account and nothing happens. Here is the command I use:[root@server1]# mailx -s "server info" my_id@my_corporate_domain < server_infoThe file server_info does exist and is a small log file. I checked for sendmail and seems to be running OK as follows:
I'm not at all familiar with mail clients or mail system in Linux. Is there anything missing? I don't have to use mailx, I could use an alternative. Just please let me know how to sent a simple mail from this server to my corporate account using any tools possible (and maybe how to set it up)
I tried using the jobs command in bash in F14 but nothing happens.
Code: [root@Fedora ~]# jobs -l [root@Fedora ~]# Code: [root@Fedora ~]# which jobs
[Code].....
If jobspec is given, output is restricted to information about that job. The return status is 0 unless an invalid option is encountered or an invalid jobspec is supplied.
If the -x option is supplied, jobs replaces any jobspec found in command or args with the corresponding process group ID, and executes command passing it args, returning its exit status.
Is the jobs command dropped for the ps command instead ?
I am running this command in Ubuntu and windows but I get the full length instead of 10 mins. I want to split it in 10 minutes.ffmpeg -i 2000.flv -ss "00:00:00" -t "00:10:00" -vcodec copy -acodec libfaac 2010.flv
I just recently installed Ubuntu to do some light perl development. I was installing Adobe Air and after I made the bin file executable, I could not run it with the (./). It says that there is no such file or directory. Here is the output from my terminal:
alan@workstartion:~$ cd Downloads alan@workstartion:~/Downloads$ ls -a . hal-9000.png .. libflashplayer.so AdobeAIRInstaller.bin mass-effect-normandy-sr1.jpg
[Code]....
I've deleted the .bin and re-downloaded it, I have renamed it, moved it and even tried executing it by removing the .bin and running it from its location. I am still getting the same errors.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and while trying to install the Wacom driver and kernel I get to the step after ./config and get this message when I use make.
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
I've tried looking up on it and they all say that build-essentials should be installed first. So I looked into it and I found out that it's already installed along with the make command itself.
Anyway to get Ubuntu to recognize it as installed?
Ive set a password for root after rebooting tried to su in console and authentication error. however sudo works fine but if your like me using sudo all the time starts getting annoying and at times i find myself apt-getting alot of packages so su is best for me my other 9.10 works fine which i installed from a canoical cd i went through my normal routine of changing my default user permissions.
e.g(add default to everygroup, and set a root password) so after the first time it wouldn't work i remembered that on my other 9.10 i changed the groups that root was in so i did the same thing i did with my default user. well it still doesn't work but i read somewhere that its possible to change it in the console.
