View 3 Repliesi found the make command not working in the gnome terminal of opensuselinux 11.3
View 3 RepliesI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 and while trying to install the Wacom driver and kernel I get to the step after ./config and get this message when I use make.
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
I've tried looking up on it and they all say that build-essentials should be installed first. So I looked into it and I found out that it's already installed along with the make command itself.
Anyway to get Ubuntu to recognize it as installed?
Based on previous forum discussions, I tried to install cygwin with 'make' installed from develop during installation. I can even see 'make.exe' in bin folder, but still while running the make command, it still shows error.
I was confused in one other part. Should I put the bin folder in some specific location or just wherever it is placed during cygwin installation? I was running VIC model, do I need to place the bin folder inside VIC source code folder.
I have build-essential, but make command not working I have build-essential package, but there is still a problem with make command. When I run it in a directory, it shows following message: mudassar@javaDev-1:~/Desktop/gwget-0.99$ make make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. When I explicitly specify a make file, the following message appears:
[Code].....
At the moment 'make' returns this:
Code:
./kernelversion.c:13:30: fatal error: linux/utsrelease.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
Makefile.inc:81: *** Cannot detect kernel version - please check compiler and KERNELPATH. Stop.
I would do a little more homework, but I already did a lot only to get stuck here, and I need to solve this sooner rather than later.
I have already: installed devel and desktop-devel and given up about 350mb of diskspace to
Code:
zypper in -t pattern devel_C_C++
Only to still not have the make function available.
If that install was unecessary, I'm hoping there's a simple uninstall version of that line.
Reading what it's saying, it sounds like I may have all the right kit but it needs a nudge in the direction of the kernel??
I am using openSUSE 10.3 and the pc is DELL Optiplex 780. The network devices is not supported by openSUSE 10.3 but I may have found it's module. But I can't "MAKE INSTALL" it as my installation does not have MAKE command.
I have selected "Install All" during my installation. Linux version is 2.6.22.5-31-default.
What is the package name for the MAKE command? So that I can find it so that I can install it into my openSUSE 10.3?
Maybe it's just the program i downloaded and maybe something's missing, but when I run ./configure I get the error: ./configure: line 4: ruby: command not found it told me to try cnf configure and it says no such file Is this me, suse or the program I downloaded? Something's wrong here.. Maybe ruby needs installed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI first tried to use UBCD HDDErase although it won't detect my seagate 1000 GB Sata HD (This worked for my other computer/HD). So I loaded up a OpenSUSE live cd rescue terminal to enter the command (of course after setting a password and making sure HD is not frozen):
time hdparm --user-master u --security-erase uber /dev/sda
The following line appears:
"Issuing SECURITY_ERASE Command, password="uber", user=user
That's all it says and there is no % completed or anything. (as it appears on the wiki)
https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/ATA_Secure_Erase
Also I can still type but theres no command or console or anything it just is blank if I hit enter. Is my HD being wiped right now? or is it not working?
I misused wildcards like a moron, in the rename command. I repeated names twice in a 3gig folder, which I cannot afford to delete. Now, the rename command is not working, and it says the file name is too long. I am a competent programmer in Java, PHP, and I know basic C.
View 7 Replies View Related*edit Nevermind I think I found it on YAST * I have been having trouble finding the "make command":If 'make' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this: cnf makeI need to install 'make', 'g++', and all other building tools for suse.

I have installed itth success on another PC by using instructions published here Ndiswrapper - openSUSE.Today I have decided to erase WindowsXP from my wife's computer (that is an identical to the one I use). When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
Using netbook asus 1005ha with lucid beta 1 with most of updates on learning to use the CLI and headaches cd command does not seem to reconise directories here is a sample

a friend of mine gave me a .tar.gz file which contains a bunch of C sourcefiles and a makefile. I don't get how to use the make command to create an executable out of those files. What arguments do I have to give the make command?

In this link, the last poster describes a way to disable tap click which I find VERY useful, but the thing is, after I reboot it goes away. Is there anyway to make this command permanent?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am building an android, from the source using make command. I want to achieve simple logging while this make is happening.
Aim:
I want to look/log for internal system calls that are being made after i do 'make' command in bash terminal. So that after the make is done, i can look and study the internal method/file calls made while make was happening. In this way i will come to know how the actual building process works.
I have a lenovo thinkpad laptop, and it has both touch-pad (standard build in laptop mouse) and touch-point (in the middle of the keyboard) mouse options.
I almost invariably use the touch-point and the accompanied scroller and key-buttons.
HOWEVER, for the scroller to be recognized by ubuntu you must run two scripts as follows:
xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Wheel Emulation" 8 1
xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Wheel Emulation Button" 8 2
Restarting the computer resets these settings, and you must re-run them each time you start up ubuntu.
I am looking to write a script that will automatically run itself (which will execute the above commands), or to permanently change these settings so that it will not be necessary to run them at each start-up.
Thanks in advance, and if there is another thread on these forums that I should move to (or even just another thread that would be a more likely place to get a response). This seemed like the best forum (one which can certainly hold this post without violating any rules), but I may have missed something.

I can't remove through terminal, and I can't remove it manually. I tried just removing everything through winetricks, then removing everything through synaptic, but whenever I install from software center, I'm back to wine 1.3.19.
I'm trying to make and make install a driver for my wireless, every time, though, I use the make command, it'll start at 0 and cound almost up to 200,000 and then the computer freezes. I've tried different drivers, same result. I've tried ndiswrapper but that didn't work either.
