View 5 RepliesI thought configuring a vpn would be a piece of cake, but it seems I'm missing something.
I'm attempting to create a vpn (pptp) using the networkmanager (0.7.1). I enter the gateway (I assume thats the server I'm trying to connect to) and my login information. What is the NT Domain?
When I try to connect it only tells me after a while that it failed to do so. How can I find the information on what went wrong in the process?
Updated occurred yesterday and installed new ppp on my F12 box. my previously working, stored PPTP profiles under network manager failed to connect claming some thing about security credentials wrong.) downgraded (yum downgrade ppp) , rebooted and its working again. Im not sure where the real problem is, can "the gods above" or below either forward this to the apporpriate bug tracker (packager, testing, redhat, who owns ppp? network manager?) so this is fixed or downgraded in the next F12 update cycle?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Mobile Broadband connection (as NetworkManager calls it) that works very well until the latest update. Now it fails to connect 99.9% of the time. When it does connect it works very sluggishly.
I didn't update a second computer I have and it still works fine here. Both run F10 x86_64, both are fully updated (except for NM on this one).

I am trying to connect to a PPTP VPN at work, and I cannot accomplish that. Both server and client are using Ubuntu 10.10.

i have a VPN server PPTPD on Centos 5.3
eth0: 62.2.2.x (public on the internet)
GW: 62.2.2.1 (cisco router)
i want to configure my ppptp server to allow users access internet with their own public ips of class 62.2.3.0 62.2.4.0 62.2.5.0
every time i configure my server all users can get thier IPs but they only go out with my server IP same as NAT not routing.
can you show me the proper configuration to make my users connect with public IP and have internet access. use specific DNS ( i did this but some users can not brows by DNS)
is there any way to specify an expired date for each pptp user.
I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.
I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.
Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:
Code:
<hostname>:~# pppd call <peer> nodetach debug
using channel 19
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/2
sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xe3e45f75> <pcomp> <accomp>]

In previous openSUSE versions I was using WICD as network manager. I upgraded my openSUSE to 11.4 and resolved give a try to the NetworkManager. I can get network connection, but the dhcp doesn't update the /etc/resolv.conf, so I can't navigate because the dns isnt set.
I tried to reinstall all related packages (dhcp, dns and networkmanager) without success.
If I run dhcpcd the resolv.conf get updated, but dhclient doesn't do the same. It seems that's a dhclient script issues, but I don't know how to test.
i'm realatively new to linux am just getting my head around the command line, any way my problem today is, my network connection and networkmanger program have been deleted/uninstalled after i did a system update. im running ubuntu 10.04 32 bit. I have run of some commands which should be able to tell you whats going on. at the moment i'm using a live ubuntu cd to gain net access.
so the question is How do i restore my network connection and get my networkmanager program back without a internet connection. (i can download stuff to a memory stick and do manual install) Hope someone can shed some light on this, i know this topic has been covered before although each case seems slightly different to mine.

I've had 11.4/KDE working pretty well on dual boot Asus G73SW for a few weeks now. Only issues were the FN-* functions that control keyboard lights and whatnot but no biggie since the essential worked. The last couple of days the update notification was indicating 1,201 updates to be made. Yeah it seemed extreme but I googled around and checked the forums and there was nothing related. I figured I might be missing some packages since I installed from the live KDE CD (still 1202 updates!!!???). So I updated. Big mistake!!!!! Ever since NetworkManager cannot connect to the internet, be it wired or wireless.
Initially it could not even see my home network but it picked it up after I removed the plasmoid from the panel and reinstalled it. However it doesn't respond when I click the network icon and still no connection.I managed to get eth0 working with ifup but not wifi. The last part of network manager log file is quoted below. I can send the whole thing to whoever is interested. I can't make sense of it but maybe someone on the forums can.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis questions is a little complex but here goes.at a central HQ I have a windows server 2008 R2 machine running routing and remote access. At my home office i have a class C lan with a Fedora 13 machine. I can get fedora 13 to connect using pptp no problem. I have my router running tomato set to redirect all traffic to teh 10.0.0.0 network to my linux server. My questions is how to I make the fedora 13 machine pass all the traffic from my network with destination 10.0.0.0 over the vpn tunnel? so for instance if i ping anything 10.x.x.x from any machine on my network it will find it and reply?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust moved over from the dark side (Vista) and was wondering how I can get two (or more) PPTP VPNs connected at any given time. I usually attempt to multi task (although swambo says I can't) and work on various clients' servers at the same time. The GUI network manager thingy only allows me to dial up one VPN at a time. Is there perhaps a cli version and if so where would I go to get a tutorial on this please. BTW, running F11 32bit. Tried Debian and Ubuntu as well and found F11 to blindingly fast on my DualCore Toshiba laptop. Pity I can't see the additional 1Gb of RAM though. (4Gb in total).

This is what I'm getting in /var/log/messages code...
I've got a FC PPTP server up and running but can't connect to it using VPN. I'm using NetworkManager but the connection fails each time. On the server, I'm seeing the following in the /var/log/messages:

I'm unable to connect to a windows vpn connection using pptp this was working yesterday but for some strange reason it stopped working. My other vpn tunnels to cisco and so on are working great. I have the following log:

Nov 26 17:05:15 falx NetworkManager[1319]: <info> VPN service 'pptp' disappeared I have the latest updates, so that means that selinux was updated today. My selinux policy was enforcing but I changed it to disable and allready rebooted. Iḿ using Fedora 14 (I already regret for making the upgrade from 13, also have a problem with display drivers or something, but thats another story) does anyone encounter a problem like mine with pptp? can you share the solution if there is one?
Alexandre. Update: At the moment after connecting by Ethernet cable to my home network the connection wold be established but no address would work to the remote network, I've disconnected the cable and resumed using my wifi connection and the VPN connection is working again!! I don't have a clue about what just happened.. since itś working I need to get some work done and will provide more info on this matter if I found something new.
I just installed F11 and can't make VPN connection to PPTP server using NetworkManager.
This is what I get:
** (nm-applet:8092): WARNING **: Error in getting active connection 'Vpn' property: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist
** (nm-applet:8092): WARNING **: _nm_object_array_demarshal: couldn't create object for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3
I can connect to this server from Fedora 10 using identical settings.
VPNC tunnels work fine.
I currently managed it to get a pptp-connect to my home network. now I have another little problem. NetworkManager always routes the whole network traffic over my home network if i am connected to the home network. If i set the "Use this connection only for resources on its network" I have do manually say:
Code:
route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev ppp0
After that only the correct traffic runs over the vpn. Now my question is it possible to setup the route via the networkmanager gui?
I used VPN before in Windows only.
How can I connect to VPN network by PPTP protocol in a simple way ?
I have updated the system this morning and the vpn stopped working! It gives me an error: invalid secrets.I use network manager to connect to a pptp vpn connection, I use fedora 12.Does anyone know the problem?

I can not stablish PPTP VPN because SELinux blocking Network Manager.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have no problems seeing the networks available and connecting to a network in KDE. But there is no network manager in GNOME. I might have messed up with the settings earlier. What I can do though is run knetwork manager every time I start up (or add it to start up programs). But that opens up the KDE wallet which would rather avoid.I am thinking I need to install something related to NetowrkManager.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded (as a fresh install) to Fedora 13. In so doing I kept the old /home partition. My NetwokrManager Applet is missing from the top bar. But if I login instead as a different user, then it is there. When I did the install, I had to create a (new) user as part of the process. The old passwd file had two users, one called admin, and the other myself. I logged in initially as the new user, and created the admin user keeping the same home directory, user ID and group ID. I then logged out, logged in again as admin, and removed the new user. I then added myself as a user keeping the same home directory, and user and group IDs.. For some reason admin has the applet but I don't. I also don't see how to add it except as a custom laucher using nm-applet, and that didn't seem to work.
View 2 Replies View Relatedif the NetworkManager uses wpa_supplicant? I normally dont use NetworkManager and decided to try it. I started it and tried it out and it works with WEP and WPA! I cant figure out why using the iwconfig command is not working by itself for WEP. WPA working with NetworkManager is just a bonus though.

I'm an inordinate amount of trouble getting F15 to run without NetworkManager. If I boot with the NetworkManager service enabled, my NIC presents as expected at /dev/eth0 (I'm using biosdevname=0). However, when I stop the NetworkManager service, /dev/eth0 disappears from the filesystem. If I boot without NetworkManager enabled, /dev/eth0 is never created. Reviewing dmesg, udev is loading an ethernet driver.
