Slackware :: Starting KTTSD Failed - How To Set Clock To 12 Hour Format

Aug 5, 2010

If I set the clock to speak the time, I get this when it tries: starting kttsd failed. I've looked at the various posts, but haven't yet found an actual solution. I've tried to run kttsmgr, but for some reason the "run" dialog doesn't seem to do anything - no error, nothing. Type kttsmgr, press enter since there is not obvious other way to execute the command, and nothing happens.

Is this a module that does not come with KDE? And I give - I can't find time format anywhere. How do you change the clock that appears in the lower right corner to 12 hour instead of what appears to be default 24 hour? I don't see it in "Digital Clock Settings", and I don't see it in System Settings - Date & Time. This is a clean install of slackware 13.1, and whatever version of KDE comes with it.

I recently decided to try KDE4 and would like the change the clock on the panel to display 12 hour format and not the default 24hour format but i can not find where to change this option currently the clock looks like the attached picture. Gnome has this option and I would like to see it in KDE if it exists in the default clock. I am willing to replace the default KDE clock with a seperate widget if one exists for this.

Ubuntu :: Conky Clock And Top Panel Clock Not In Sync

May 27, 2011

I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.

It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done

How do I go about to fix this strange bug?

Debian Multimedia :: Custom Precision Of Clock On Gnome

Aug 18, 2015

I remember that 10 years ago or so, I used to have on a Debian desktop a clock which displayed the time on a custom level of approximation, e.g. quarter to five for 04:47 or even "morning/late evening/etc". I can't remember if it was a customization of the default clock or a separate program. I didn't have luck searching on the internet. Is it possible to get something similar with Gnome on Jessie?

Ubuntu :: Frozen Panel - Messing Around With The Alternate Character Panel App And Made A Custom Character Set

Jun 12, 2011

I was messing around with the alternate character panel app and made a custom character set. I then wanted to put it on a new panel and created a new panel. I moved the character set to that panel, and then started to mess around with the panel settings (auto hide, show hide buttons, and expand, to be specific.) So far so good, until I moved the panel from the right side of the screen to the top. I already had a panel here, and it seemed not to like hiding a panel when there was already one on the top.

When the new panel hid itself, all my panels stopped responding (any clicks on them did nothing) and my processor started going at 100%. I tried a reboot and the only thing that changed is that now I can't even see my panels. I'm guessing I need to change the settings back manually through the prompt, but I don't know how to do that. I am using 10.04 and have not upgraded gnome since upgrading to 10.04.

Fedora :: Having Es_ES Language And 12 Hours Format On Clock?

May 23, 2011

I noticed that the language es_ES (Spanish Spain), has a problem, you can't put the clock in 12 hours format, I was googling for a while and found that it should edit the file

Code:

/usr/share/i18n/locales/es_ES

Find these lines

Code:

am_pm "";""
t_fmt_ampm ""

and replace with

Code:

am_pm "<U0041><U004D>";"<U0050><U004D>"
t_fmt_ampm "<U0025><U0049><U003A><U0025><U004D><U003A><U0025><U0053>/
<U0020><U0025><U0070>"

But I did it and still don't show me the option to change the clock to 12 hour format, I tried changing the es_NI language (Spanish Nicaragua) and gives me the option of 12 hours, but the languages of programs like firefox, thunderbird, openoffice change to English. What can i do to have language es_ES and 12 hours format on my clock? or es_NI language with firefox, thunderbird etc. in spanish?

General :: No 12 Hour Format Available In Gnome Clock (UK English)

Sep 2, 2010

Very simple question but very frustrating as none of the other threads/bug reports/whatever have had quite the same problem. I want gnome clock to display the time in 12 hour format. The suggested solution is something like right-click the clock -> Preferences and somewhere there will be an option to choose 12/24 hour time. Problem is I don't have that option.

The help has a note that 12 hour time "is not shown if your session language does not use the 12 hour clock" but this really shouldn't be a problem? My language/locale/city, everything I can think of, it's all some variation of en_GB, UK English, Brisbane, Australia: all places which should allow the option of 12 hour clock! So why don't I have that option?

Ubuntu :: Panel Clock Doesn't Update

Jun 28, 2010

The clock applet "Clock 2.30.0" in my panel reads correctly on boot, and then never updates itself. When I go to its preferences, time setting is correct and continuously updating, but the display in my panel never changes. I can use "killall-gnomepanel" from terminal, and this rests everything, making the time display correctly. Furthermore, it updates itself afterward... but I'd like the dang thing to function correctly without resorting to that.

Fedora :: GNOME Clock Applet In Bottom Panel

Jun 29, 2010

I'm experiencing a strange problem with GNOME Clock on Fedora 13. When the applet is in the bottom panel, and I click on the clock, the popup display appears at the top of the screen rather than at the bottom of the screen (above the bottom panel) as would be expected. Worse, the display appears higher than would be expected had the clock been on the top panel, meaning the display is cutoff (ie, the display goes off the top of the screen). I've tried playing with my .gconf files, and removing and re-adding the GNOME Clock applet, but nothing has worked. I'm not sure if this is a weird quirk particular to my settings, or a more general bug; can readers here check to see if the behavior I've described occurs if the Clock applet is added to the bottom panel?

Ubuntu :: Won't Gnome Panel Clock Show Local Time / Why Is So?

Sep 30, 2010

When I travel, I would like to tell my laptop that I, as a user, am in a different time zone that what the OS may think is local. And I would like the clock on my desktop (default Gnome bar date/time display) to show the local time.

Instead, I currently have to use sudo and change the system time... (click on the clock, choose time settings, set system time -- there are no other choices given). The applet thing allows me to add other locations, but they only show up if I click on the icon, as extra times below the main one.

Am I missing something? Using the wrong app?

Slackware :: Clock Shows The Wrong Time In Slackware

May 10, 2011

I've been running arch linux, with my clock set to UTC with no problem. Recently I installed slackware on a different partition. During the setup I chose to set my clock to 'local time' instead of UTC by accident. Now in slackware my clock shows the wrong time. Also in arch it shows the same wrong time.

I booted back into slackware and ran pkgtool to enter the setup again, and changed my time to UTC. But this makes no difference. My clock is still wrong in both slackware and arch. Do I need to reboot after changing my clock settings in slackware before it takes effect? how the clock or the setup works.
