Ubuntu :: Xfce Panel Launcher - Open Document Directly

May 20, 2010

I'm running xfce and I'm trying to create a launcher on the panel that will open a document directly. Is there any way to do this? Do I just need the way to open that document from a terminal?

Ubuntu :: KDE-style App Launcher For XFCE?

Aug 14, 2010

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is an KDE-style app launcher for XFCE, preferably in the repos. I'm using KDE on my main system, and would love to have the same ALT+Space launcher on my laptop. Only without having to install (and run) all of the KDE libraries.

Closest I came was a couple of Mac-OS style docks.

OpenSUSE :: XFCE 4.6.1 - How To Add Shutdown Launcher To Desktop

Mar 4, 2011

I switched to xfce after repeated freezes in gnome-panel (2.28.1) due to unresolved 10-year-old bug (more than 8 applications when panel is vertical). My xfce (4.6.1) desktop comes without a shutdown launcher and ctrl-alt-del gives me a screensaver lock I tried adding a launcher, using
Code:
/usr/lib/xfsm-shutdown-helper
But when I restarted the system, I came up with a dysfunctional login panel -- no users shown.

Debian Multimedia :: When Open An Open Office Document From An NFS Share It Always Opens As Readonly

Apr 27, 2010

When I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

Slackware :: Adding - Geometry Parameter To Launcher Not Working Xfce 4.6.2 On 13.37

Jun 14, 2011

I'm finally getting around to configuring my Xfce desktop environment and I'm having a lot of trouble having applications remember their last position. I did some Googling and found this is either not a supported feature or it depends on the application if they want to support it or not.

I'm trying to make my default terminal start in the center of the screen.

I found that you can add the command line parameter

Code:

For example and it should open at a 70x20 size in the 20+30 position. I added that to my panel launcher's command and ended up with

Code:

However the terminal isn't opening at all.

After further reading, I discovered the default launchers use your preferred applications so I just used replaced the launch command with the following and it worked perfectly:

The problem was finding an applet to browse directory tree directly in the Gnome panel similar to that in "Recent Documents". The thread was closed without any solution posted there and also no solution available elsewhere (I searched for over 2 hours) in the forum.

Search for "file-browser-applet" in the Synaptic Package Manager. The applet with exactly that name is what you need. It allows to browse and open files on your computer from the GNOME panel. Once installed, "Add to panel".

Ubuntu :: 11.04 - Panel And App Launcher Sidebar Not Loading Upon Login / Fix It?

Apr 29, 2011

I just updated from 10.10 to 11.04 about an hour ago and I've already managed to crash it. (currently running from my old 10.04 Live CD)
the first restart from the update worked fine. i had a look around and tried to orientate myself to the new dash etc.
this is where the problem comes in.
All i did was open the control center and have a look at the new Unity and Gnome 3 settings etc.
My computer froze and so i had to force shutdown and restart.

I then discover my two main problems.
- the new grub menu/splash screen is displaying at too high a frequency for my monitor to display (if i wait long enough it loads 11.04's login screen by default.)
- upon login, all i can see is my desktop background and my cairo dock from 10.10 but nothing else. (no panel or app launcher side bar)

OpenSUSE :: Move Widgets On Launcher Panel?

Jun 2, 2011

This question concerns the system panel/launcher panel / the panel with the launcher that normally appears across the top or bottom of the screen. The default system panel layout was nice, but, I screwed it up by accidentally deleting the task manager. I put the task manager back but now my clock & system tray are to the left of the task manager, and, I can't just drag things around. Is there a trick to organizing the widgets on this panel or is it broken? Every time I try to move something, it basically ignores me and adds it to the right of everything else.
