I was trying to choose a set of icons in xfce's "Appearance" dialogue and then suddenly the panel disappeared and didn't show up even after rebooting the machine (I mean logging out and restarting). What should I do?

Someone on the forums had me uninstall pulseaudio to get pSX working, and now I don't have a volume control icon on the panel and when choosing to add stuff to the panel it isn't available.I re-installed pulseaudio through the package manager, but I have a feeling it didn't install everything that uninstalled with it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had been using Amarok 1.4 with no problems, but somehow in trying to fix the 'Launching HTTP Cache' bug, I made the Amarok toolbar icons disappear and be replaced with an image of a page. The only thing I did was install qt3-qtconfig and systemsettings, then removed them because they were not able to help me fix the HTTP cache bug, and they also altered my pointer to KDE-style. After removal and a system restart, Amarok looks like the screenshot I took. how to get the icons back?

Like the title says my bookmark icons have disappeared and have been replaced with blank white pages:Initially I thought they would come back if i did a fresh install and imported the bookmarks, but when I reinstall chromium they are already there, and again without the proper icons.

Today I installed a fresh copy of F12 and I noticed that I have no icons in any menu of any application - Desktop, Nautilus, Firefox, Pidgin, OpenOffice - nowhere.I only have them in the Main Gnome Menu and that's it.Does any body know what can cause this problem and how to fix it?BTW,I've been using Fedora starting from F6 and I can claim that F12 is indeed one of the most awful release that I've seen I used to successfully upgrade to each next major release up to F11, but F12 made me completely reinstall my OS, cause there were tones of bugs after the upgrade including not working WiFi

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Kubuntu 10.10 Trinity, ran the updates, installed a number of programs, and somewhere along the line all the device icons disappeared from the desktop. I didn't notice exactly when it happened because I couldn't see the desktop most of the time. They're all still checked in Configure Desktop / Behavior / Device Icons; I can check or uncheck whatever I want there, but it has no effect. How I can get them back?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 11 with KDE desktop. Yesterday I installed several updates, including a kernel update. Now the Shutdown and Restart icons have disappeared from the Leave menu, which only contains the icons for "Logout", "Lock", "Switch User", "Suspend to Ram" and "Suspend to Disk". I had "Shutdown" and "Restart" icons in my Favorites menu, but when selected they open a "Logout" dialogue.
I can Shutdown and Restart from the command line, but would like to restore the capability to do it from the icons. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix?
My icon displays at the bottom of the main pidgin window but but the icons for my contacts don't display any more. It used to display in the conversation window as well as on the themed menu button on the main window.
The disappearance happened on both Fed 13 and 14, both x86/64. I haven't checked the fed12 32 bit yet but I suspect recent updates are the culprit so I expect the Fed12 32bit to also be affected. (don't really use it much except as a "sacrificial" toy since it's due for obsoletion).
I expect a future update will fix it but I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem, and if it's a known issue, is there a current fix ?

I just updated Fed12 32bit and got the saame pidgin version as 14 and 13. The icons are still present. I guess it wasn't an update problem.
I've (almost successfully) upgraded my 64-current.
1. It used to be or is? 64-current multilib, however, before the upgrade I commented out any blacklisted packages in slackpkg's blacklist file (including aaa_eflibs)
slackpkg update, install-new, upgrade-all, clean system (removed all the packages that were specified in changelogs.txt as removed)
When started X two things were wrong.
1. XFCE icons disappeared
2. The mouse pointer was going crazy
2. I fixed it by following Eric's advice and created a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-mouse.conf where I put the Input section from my xorg.conf
I'm still at loss when it comes to the icons.
btw, I've reinstalled my nvidia binary blob, somehow it doesn't seem to see it. Does the new Xorg use xorg.conf anymore?
If I reboot to Slackware current with a DVD in the drive and start XFCE, I get 2 identical DVD icons on the desktop.

After a recent upgrade I have lost the top right icon in the top panel - so I cannot Set Status, Lock Screen, Guest Session, Switch User ..... Restart, Shutdown. I have right clicked on the top panel and installed the Shutdown icon so I can shutdown but I have lost all the other functions including the 60secs countdown. Is there any way I can get the standard top right icon in the top panel?

Did that and for some obscure reason i lost the default firefox icon from the top task bar. I could make a launcher on the desktop but i failed to find the firefox exe. I did get it to show hidden files, found the firefox folder but no exe file or similiar to launch.
Would someone be so kind as to tell me where to drill so i can at least put the firefox launcher on the desktop. As a fill in im using chromium, and i did find its folder hidden in firefox's.

somehow I right clicked on the panel at the top and then left clicked on something that made the panel disappear permenantly. now when I turn the computer on it goes to the login screen, I put in my password and the desktop has no panel bar across the top of the screen (no way to even run a program) to turn in off I have to push the power button. how do I get my panel back? standard ubuntu 10.04 64 bit not server.

However, when I turned on my laptop this morning my wallpaper is now plain white, my desktop items have disappeared and my top panel has been removed. In fact, the programs I lost the icons too were in the entries, under "system tray settings" and so I set them to all always show. conky draws the root background for sudo transparency, not the desktop image, so solve by using real transparency, but this means any desktop icon blinks or just vanishes, what to do,looked around for a while. but no further along, anyone else had this problem, anyone else solved this problem?
View 4 Replies View Relatedrecently i made a bold move to slackware (13.1) i have set it out how i like (gdm, themes etc) but my xfce icon box does come up showing the icons i have chosen the rest look how i want but just not icon box, i add (always into usr/share...) i have tried editing the .theme files with the inherit= section but nope still nothing ,
if i move the icons to somewhere the pc wont use them nothing replaces them. any ideas as this an boot times are all have left to do for my "dream install"
I tried doing an upgrade straight from fc5 to fc10. The upgrade seemed to go all right but once it was completed I've noticed some issues. My main issues are these:
1. After the upgrade all my desktop icons have disappeared and I'm not sure how to recover them. (this applies to all user account on a home machine)
2. When I click the right mouse button on the desktop I get no context menu but I do get the menu when I right click on my top or bottom menu bars.
3. When I try to launch any applications, games, etc., I see the icon show up in the bottom menu bar for a few seconds but then it disappears and the application never launches.
Those are the primary problems I'm encountering right now. I know the files in the home directories are still there (I did CTRL-ALT-F2 into a terminal and logged in as root. Normally I would've done CTRL-ALT-F1 but when I did I saw acpid messages and no prompt.) I've looked through the forums here but nothing I came across quite seemed to fit my needs.
I have been having a problem with the panel on the top of the screen in Ubuntu 10.04. There is supposed to be an applet that shows the time, and when you click on it, it shows a calendar for the month. It has been working until recently, about a few days ago, when I clicked it and it froze. Later, it disappeared and became a small vertical black line on the panel, and all the other icons moved to the right except a few of them. How can I get the calendar applet back?
