Nov 2, 2010I'd like to overclock (well actually downclock) ATI X300 video card in Debian. Is it possible to do it with standard drivers, or fglrx must be used?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm getting close to ordering the components for a new machine based on the AMD Deneb quad core and had one last question.I'd like to try a little careful overclocking, not only for the performance increase but also to learn how. Nothing extreme, no gaming, just whatever I can get with good stability with the stock heatsink and fan.I was going to get 8GB on 2x4GB strips but they are all CAS latency 9. The MB has 4 slots for a total of 16GB capacity. Would I be better off going with 4x2GB strips and try to get a lower latency strip like maybe 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing coolbits allows for me to try to change it but it refuses to accept it, and even when i run it as root it still just acts like nothing has changed. It's not my laptop maker since i can overclock my gpu using rivatuner on windows so it's clearly not them trying to restrict me. I was attempting to restore teh clocks back to what the factory settings were from nvidia and not the underclocked settings that the oem put on it for the 3d settings and then reducing the 2d by ~10% to help it run cooler except when gaming.Has anyone been able to successfully use coolbits in squeeze? Or is there another nvidia overclockign tool out there besides nvclock since my gpu is apparently too new to work with it and i'm not going to risk it.

Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?
Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...
I am new here, and clueless as to what im doing. Soo.. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 i386. It took me forever to install because it would hang up (Mouse lock and light go off, keyboard lock, screen lock) every time i got to the graphical part of the installer, so i used the alternate installer. After installing correctly, it would still lock up within 3 minutes of login. Now that ive removed one stick (512) of ram, there are no more problems.
Here is my comp config:
Installer: ubuntu-10.04-alternate-i386
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Motherboard: Albatron K8T800
Ram: 1 gig Corsair ram(2 x 512) **Note, I removed one to get the comp to work, so its actually 512 now.
Video: Nvidia Geforce 6800gt
Both sticks of ram are the same so it is not because of mix and matching ram.
how well TV cards work in Ubuntu.I want to know what are the best prices, what works in Ubuntu and whether or not they will "lag" with video.Problem is my television just packed in, Rather than get a new one I'd rather just get a PC card because it'd be more practical with the room I have.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy situation is like so: I have two NVIDIA GTX 460 graphics cards running the latest (260.19.06) proprietary drivers. I SLI these together under Windows 7 for gaming. However, for day to day usage I have Ubuntu 10.1 running on my two monitors using twinview.
My problem is that the xserver refuses to load (I get the "screens found, but none have a usable configuration" error) when both my graphics cards are plugged in and powered; if I remove the power to one, the system works fine. If I was just using Ubuntu, I would simply leave one unplugged but, because I'm not, its a pain to have to plug/unplug one every time I want to switch operating system.
I have tried every modification to the xorg.conf file that I can think of and a few more found in the documentation and via google, all to no avail. I have also tried everything again with twinview disabled and only one monitor plugged in.
I am aware that SLI isn't compatible with twinview, I don't really need to use it, although it would, of course, be nice.
I am setting up a class using a vmWare ESX server. Because of security proceedures, the students are not allowed to connect directly to the internet. Because of file space, the are severated on 3 servers. I am trying to set up a server that connects to the internet and all 3 subnets that the students are on.
I have configure 4 virtual NICs 1 with DHCP connected to the internet. The other 3 goes to each student network. I can get 2 working at a time. 1 using the DHCP and 1 of the other networks. It seems to be order dependent. On the main server I can ping the local address. When I ping the students systems, I can reach 1 but not the other 2. I get a host unreachable message.
Is there a limitation to 2 NICS. If not, is there any magic incantation to run the 4 nics?
I am looking into buying a better graphics card, most likely Nvidia, for my HP D330 DT.How do you tell if the graphics card is compatible with your machine? One more thing, is there a way to tell if my GPU is an, AGP, PCI, or PCI express without opening my computer??

Also, I'm having trouble when I try to unmount the volume of a SD card, there's 0.8 GB being used that I expect to be cleared when I choose to 'empty trash', everytime I select 'unmount volume' the SD card window just shuts down instead of clearing that space.
I've got a Dell Xeon with two video cards - an nVidia Quadro2 MXR/EX/Go and an ATI Radeon 7000/VE. Under Fedora 10 Xinerama worked just fine, but I recently upgraded to F14 and Xinerama no longer works. The X server tries repeatedly to start but fails, with gdm-binary eventually giving up in disgust. If I comment out the ''Option "Xinerama" "On"' line it starts up (see attached xorg.conf), albeit with a few quirks. I have two X screens (:0.0 and :0.1 - one for each monitor), where :0.0 works just fine but :0.1 has no window manager - I can bring up windows on it but they have no window border ( no min/max/close buttons, can't be resized, etc). The mouse moves freely from one monitor to the other, but windows don't.The error messages I get when I try to use Xinerama are as follows. In /var/log/messages I get:

How can I get opensuse 11.2 to automount sd cards? Until recently I had SD card reader of my laptop turned off in BIOS, now I turned it on and hardware wise it is working fine (I can mount SD cards manually) - but how can I get opensuse to mount the cards automatically upon insertion? Is it possible to run a box with 2 graphics cards in it with one card being a PCIe x16 and the other being a PCIe x1?
Unsure whether this would cause all sorts of problems with ubuntu and/or the nvidia drivers (2 quatro NVS 290's).
I'm trying to set up a 4 monitor sys with 2 different cards. 1 is an ATI, the other an inVidia.

Now, I put a nVidia card in it (2009'ish 512mb), and there is no screen after the BIOS screen.
If I boot off a Live CD, everything is fine, so the card is supported.
How do I get Ubuntu to look for the new card on bootup? Do I have to reinstall? If so, will it wipe out the installed applications and data?

i have ubuntu 10.10 64b and for some reason last night the wired network autoeth01 suddenly will not connect to my router. it is a dual boot machine so i booted into windows and it is working fine in that OS.
I then had a look at the status on my laptop running ubuntu 10.10 32b and that was showing the same message "wired network autoeth01 disconnected" i cannot for the life of me figure this out. just before it was disconnected i had been copying 7gigs worth of data using samba from the 32b machine to the 64 bit machine.
i have tried deleting the wired entry and recreating it.
tried different cables
even changed the router
works with all windows machines connected to network
