Ubuntu Networking :: Using 4 NIC Cards?

Jul 13, 2011

I am setting up a class using a vmWare ESX server. Because of security proceedures, the students are not allowed to connect directly to the internet. Because of file space, the are severated on 3 servers. I am trying to set up a server that connects to the internet and all 3 subnets that the students are on.

I have configure 4 virtual NICs 1 with DHCP connected to the internet. The other 3 goes to each student network. I can get 2 working at a time. 1 using the DHCP and 1 of the other networks. It seems to be order dependent. On the main server I can ping the local address. When I ping the students systems, I can reach 1 but not the other 2. I get a host unreachable message.

Is there a limitation to 2 NICS. If not, is there any magic incantation to run the 4 nics?

Ubuntu Networking :: Two Nic Cards But No Port Forwarding?

Jul 6, 2010

I have two nic cards installed in a Lucid LTS server.

eth0 is static using
address 192.168.0.235
gateway 192.168.0.1
netmask 255.255.255.0

[Code]...

I have my Qwest DSL modem port forwarding port 80 to 192.168.3.235 however this doesn't seem to work if I have both cards running. If I remove the second card (eth1) and reconfigure eth0 to use 192.168.3.235 I can port forward into my webserver.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Cards Just Work (perhaps Usb)?

I'm running 10.04 64 bit, and the Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN does not work with n routers. I'd like to either upgrade the card, or buy a usb adapter, but I can't figure out which cards will work. I've searched[URL].. which lists supported wifi cards, but most of the info on that page is not relevant to lucid, and hasn't been updated at all this year. I saw elsewhere that any card with the atheros chipset will work, but what cards have this? Will all of them with this chipset work?

Ubuntu Networking :: PCI WiFi Cards Work With 11.04?

Jun 9, 2011

I'm looking for a cheap and stable wifi card that will work with Ubuntu 11.04. My Linksys WMP300N is creating a conflict with the native Broadcom driver (causing the system to freeze after light network traffic) and ndiswrappper isn't working for 64 bit Ubuntu.

Does anyone own a relatively cheap (less than $40USD) PCI card that works flawlessly, or close to flawlessly with 64bit Ubuntu 11.04? I need to get off of this 35ft ethernet cord. Cat5 + crossing top of stairs = problem in the future.

Ubuntu Networking :: Any Newer Supported USB Wireless Cards?

May 2, 2010

Had a hard drive fail this week, and I am going to order a new one. I am using $150 dollars in Best Buy gift certificates. Well seeing as how I have some left over I would like to get a usb wireless adapter that would work out of the box (preferably usb although I could always get an internal). All Best Buy has are wireless N cards and I was wondering if anyone knows if any Wireless N USB cards work out of the box without downloading firmware or NDISwrapper.

Ubuntu Networking :: Warning Re Realtek Wireless Cards & WEP

Jun 13, 2010

I recently purchased two MSI Windtop AE2220's. One for my home which uses a router with WPA2 protection and one for my office where I use WEP encryption.

The Realtek internal wireless card will not connect to a WEP router if you are running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. I have exhausted all suggestions on this site and all drivers found at Realtek's site.

I have been using Ubuntu since Hardy Heron, but sadly, painfully, I have had to install Windows 7 on my office machine until I find a wireless card compatible with the MSI Windtop AE2220, Lucid and WEP.

Networking :: IP Keeps Changing Between Network Cards?

Jul 8, 2010

I have a small pc running fedora 8 with iptables and 2 network cards for routing/firewall and secondary DNS.For some time I've been alerted by the network guys that this machine was generating some alerts. The real network IP address keeps being assigned to the other interface, intended for LAN only (10.0.0.1/24).I've already changed the PC, installed a more recent operating system, replaced the 2 network cards and the problem persists. I have another pc running the same services (except DNS) in a very simillar way and no alert logs from that one.onder if it is some configuration issue on my startup firewall script.I've also installed arpwatch and I could confirm this IP and physical address issue:

Arpwatch output:
hostname: my.host.name
ip address: my.ip.address

Ubuntu Networking :: Manage Multiple Internet Connections With Different Cards?

May 25, 2010

I'm running ubuntu lucid and i was thinking in purchasing one or more extra wifi cards to try to configure my computer to manage different conections at the same time, with different isp's. The thing is that I'm not quite sure if what i want to do is actually possible.

The easiest way that crossed my mind was to try to configure a / multiple virtual machines that are redirected threw proxies to ubuntu and try to configure that each proxie port goes threw a different internet gateaway. This way i might be able to divide threw different sessions of JDownloader, installed on each virtual machine, the things i want to download. The negative aspect of this idea is having multiple jdownloader sessions will make my laptop work to almost 100% for sure...

Another thought i have was to make JDownloader manage its downloads in only one session redirecting them to my internet conections; the negative thing is that i think i will have to try to modify its source and learn java...

And well my last possible configuration i had in mind was to try to make ubuntu directly add up all my internet conections manage as if it was one. the negative thing here is that i might not be able to get multiple downloads from some sites

Well, all this where just thoughts, im struggling whether to buy another card or not to try to setup any of this configurations but im not really sure if any of them are actually possible. Is there an easy way to manage this?

I just want to take the most out of my internet conections... if i'm at college i have to options that are quite slow, adding them up with two cards would be great, i might also be able to add a third and a fourth conection. Also if i'm on a coffe and i need some bandwith i could try to make it go with an open network arround, etc.

Ubuntu Networking :: Making Sure Two Network Cards Each Have The Correct IP Addresses?

Nov 2, 2010

I've got two NICs connected to two different routers, and on different subnets of course. Each is set for static IP. But somehow I must have mixed up the connections at some point, so the NICs don't always have the IP addresses I expect. I think there may also be a mixup with different ways of setting the network addresses. When I click the Network Icon on the Desktop, I see that each NIC has both addresses as options. The /etc/network/interfaces file has some information about eth0, but all commented out, so there must be another place the addresses get set. And I just discovered that eth0 and eth1 aren't physical but virtual. I guess eth0 is the first one that is set.

I've tried searching, and have come up with the .tgz file here, but I have no idea what to do with it I'm concentrating on the wireless card for the moment, seeing as that will be the main one I use.

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting Gigabyte And Linksys Wireless Cards To Work On Laptop

Feb 8, 2010

I've got an old laptop wich wireless adapter is a Gigabyte GN-WI01 GS MINI PCI(its chipset is Realtek RTL8169/8110, I believe) and I'm not able to make it run in Wifislax 3.1 Live CD. I downloaded the linux drivers for it and tried to install them following the instructions but when it came the time to execute configure.sh it told me that I had to actualize some kind of packets first(GK+ or something like that can't remember ). I also have another wireless usb adapter that I tried to use too. It's a Linksys WUSB54g v4(chipset: rt2570). I tried to follow a guide I found about making run an adapter like that on Wifislax 3.1 but when I had to "Force ralink rt73 on rt2500" it doesn't appear on my Live CD version, it appears "Force ralink rt73 on rt2570", dunno if it has something to be but I get an error while making it.

I don't know if it has to be with my laptop, my wireless adapters or my way of following the steps. If it has to be with my adapters I would like to buy some new one(not very expensive) that I won't have any problems running it on Wifislax and that will work on my old laptop(cause I just have that one and can't afford a new one).

Ubuntu Networking :: Change The Network Card Priority With Multiple Cards?

Sep 26, 2010

I've got two network card interfaces on my computer, one wireless and one wired. The wireless card is connected to the Internet and the wired is connected to the LAN. When only the wireless card is active, Internet works. As soon as i enable the second wired card, Internet stops working. And it seems like Ubuntu chooses the wired card for Internet as soon as it's enabled.

Are there any ways to solve this? So my Ubuntu box always chooses the wireless card for Internet traffic and let me use the wired device for LAN only?
