Having trouble getting a certain piece of software to run under wine 1.2.2 and under Crossover, so thought I'd try wine 1.3.2. Wasn't sure if I could install it without messing with my 1.2.2 install. Would it work? using slackware64 13.37 multilib

Why is there none for wheezy? Is it a temporary dependency thing or...? I've googled this but there has been no kind of answer anywhere. Right now I'm using the frickelplatz apotsid repository as they package the most recent version of wine but if I could use a standard debian repository I would.

Two links I found said that the solution was to download alsa-drivers, alsa-lib, and alsa-util from the ALSA website and ./configure && make && make install:

However, I'm running stable lenny, and I'd rather do things the "right" way instead of doing a regular make install. Is there a way to grab the binary packages from testing/unstable and install those without problems? If that's not possible, can I grab the source package from testing/unstable and use that? If that's not possible, can I download the source from ALSA's website and build a package myself?
I've been installing Debian Stable on a IBM Thinkpad R60 with SXGA display. Running the system works for around 10-30 min, after which period of time there begin screen distortions, which last for always few seconds only. Working can be continued in the time between these distortions.
Running Ubuntu 11.04 for testing has brought up none of these problems. I have enabled "nomodeset" as a kernel parameter, but without success.

I used to use Gwibber as social networks aggregator/client, but starting since last update (current version 3.1.0) it crashes miserably on both Fedora 14 and Fedora 15.
Gwibber team looks reluctant to provide any feedback on whether this shall be fixed in foreseeable future. Installing Gwibber from the last stable sources gives the same crash.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI installed Wine on my machine just a few minutes ago and as part of the installation the following packages are also installed: ttf-liberation,
ttf-mscorefonts-installer, ttf-symbol-replacement, ttf-tahoma-replacement. These add extra fonts to the system which I'm assuming are required by windows programs running inside Wine. The problem is though that Firefox also seems to be using these fonts because the fonts now look different inside Firefox. Not a huge difference, but you can tell they are different and they just don't look "right" to the eye. They are no longer as pleasing as they were when Firefox was using the default Ubuntu fonts.
Is there a way to keep these fonts for use by Wine, but not allow any other program on Ubuntu to use them?
I am trying to install itunes 9 and 8 both in my ubuntu 9.10 with wine, how ever everytime the installation fails. In itunes 8 it says quicktime is not installed even though under the program it says it is and in itunes 9 after a while it says an error has occured. i need to sync my Iphone with my computer immedately.

I have tried to install SimCity (Win95 ver) under wine, there is no setup.exe on cd though, there is only bootme.exe which doesn't seem to install simcity. Those two files are now in my flash disk. The only thing working is the mouse, but unable to click anything. Keyboard is death at the point. Is there a logfile from the system that let me see the problem? Did not have freezes with 11.2.

I've tried getting it to run with Wine but it doesn't trust any executable file. I then tried using Ubuntu Software Centre to see if there is a Ubuntu version but so far I can't seem to get even that version to work. The main issue though is that it would be nice to be able to run software via Wine and I don't know why I can't figure that out lol.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been able to successfully install Acrobat 4 on CrossOver 8.0.0. I recently purchased Acrobat 9, but could not install it. Everything seems to go smoothly except that the serial number is rejected by the Acrobat installer.
1. Has anybody successfully installed a recent version of Acrobat on WINE or CrossOver?
2. What is it about WINE that would interfere with the serial number?
(I successfully installed on WinXP, so I do have a good S/N.)
I see that winetricks includes physx, but when I either run that, or just run the physx installer executable under wine, a dialogue pops up that tells me I need to reboot before installing. Hitting either yes or no shuts down the program and creates a file at "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/Wise Installation Wizard/". Running the program a second time yields exactly the same results. I've tried deleting my ~/.cache/winetricks folder.
Is there a way to have the program think I've rebooted already, or to circumvent the reboot dialogue? How does this normally work successfully running 'winetricks physx'? I've got winetricks version 20110105, wine-1.2.2, and I'm running on Slackware64 13.0 using the proprietary 64-bit nvidia driver 260.19.44.
