i use Newsbin and after installing 11.3 and copying my datafiles from newsbin over, there is a tendency that my desktop freezes up. The only thing working is the mouse, but unable to click anything. Keyboard is death at the point. Is there a logfile from the system that let me see the problem? Did not have freezes with 11.2.
View 3 RepliesI have updated Opensuse 11.3 to 11.4. I have also updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers. Now, when Gnome desktop starts it freezes: it draws all the shortcuts on the desktop but I cannot use my wired mouse to click anything as if the desktop has freezed. The cursor shows that something is loading. I cannot also use Ctl + F2 to start xterm... But I can use Ctl + Alt + F12, so the keyboard is working.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there any way I can install an older version of kde like the on on suselinux 10.1 because the newer desktops are very unstable on my computers. stuff closes, stuff freezes temperarly, fortunetly nothing perminent has happened yet but its been threating to abolish my computer. Ive had other cases like this end up making me reinstall my operating system and Id really like to just fix the problem before it happens. page down is overrun with this horribly lagging scroll.buttons look like there clicking occasionally and again it closes programs and has logged me out once already.

i have installed the new 11.2 OS, every thing went well until i switched on the desktop effect, when i clicked the apply button the whole system freezed, i had to manually switch of the system and re-started. everything went well until the username and password was entered, at the time of the progress bar the system dint respond, but the curser was moving but very slow moment was observed. i tried to repair the system with the repair system option, i tried repairing the file system i got the following error after pressing the help button
"error detected
the Ext4 file system of the partion /dev/sda6 is corrupted. to repair the file system, press repair"
and the second sda7 with the error "the Ext4 file system of the partion /dev/sda6 is corrupted. to repair the file system, press repair"
i pressed the repair button but nothing happen. and i even tried to re install the OS, the same problem exists.
I'm running 11.3, 64bit.It downloads everything fine, but not long after it starts installing things, my PC completely freezes. I tried giving it 20 minutes, but it didn't seem to want to come back to me.What does this mean? Is my OpenSUSE broken?

If I navigate to the c:windowssystem32 and right-click on mstsc.exe, open with Wine, after logging with user and password in the Windows TS (at the office) when I click on Connect, it freezes, the window goes blank and I have to force it to quit.The reason I want to run it is that the Windows Server 2003 R2 doesn't accept any Linux client.I used to access from the XP partition, which doesn't boot anymore so I try to run its mstsc.exe app from Wine.Is there something I could do? I have some Type1 fonts with PFB, PFM, AFM and sometimes INF face files. The only ones I see in the <Type1> directory are AFM and PFA. Which font files does Gnome actually require? Is a PFA needed? Are the font files moved/deleted from </usr/share/fonts/> after installation? Is there a more obvious way to install fonts in Gnome?

I had a Live CD with the Gnome desktop that i had tried out and liked. I think I like the Gnome desktop better. Now I would like to run both desktops. After going to the install new software and changing the view to patterns and select the "Gnome Desktop Environment" I get this error.

I was able to install the Gnome Base system with no problems or conflicts.
I don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.

When I try to boot from the OpenSUSE 11.3 x86_64 DVD, I get a curses based screen which says, "Make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive." (with OK and Back buttons). On pressing Back and trying to install again, I get an angry red dialog, which declares, "No repository found."
I tried connecting an external USB DVD drive and then booting from it, then this problem did not come and the install went to start the GUI. But then it could not find the (rather any) hard disk!
We have a set of these identical machines and the problem is fully repeatable on all of them (I tried downloading and burning the DVD image again, that didn't help). The same machines have OpenSUSE 11.1 and 11.2 installed on them and there was no such problem installing those.
By trying to install opensuse 11.4 / 1 the installation hungsup at a late level. After rebooting the system, the configuration goes on. When finishing the installation on that way, there are no menus so you can to simply nothing. The problem of system hanging exists also with version 11.3 final release but after rebooting the configuration goes on and when finished, you have the menus.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI installed Wine on my machine just a few minutes ago and as part of the installation the following packages are also installed: ttf-liberation,
ttf-mscorefonts-installer, ttf-symbol-replacement, ttf-tahoma-replacement. These add extra fonts to the system which I'm assuming are required by windows programs running inside Wine. The problem is though that Firefox also seems to be using these fonts because the fonts now look different inside Firefox. Not a huge difference, but you can tell they are different and they just don't look "right" to the eye. They are no longer as pleasing as they were when Firefox was using the default Ubuntu fonts.
Is there a way to keep these fonts for use by Wine, but not allow any other program on Ubuntu to use them?
I am trying to install itunes 9 and 8 both in my ubuntu 9.10 with wine, how ever everytime the installation fails. In itunes 8 it says quicktime is not installed even though under the program it says it is and in itunes 9 after a while it says an error has occured. i need to sync my Iphone with my computer immedately.
