Software :: Installing Specific Font For Wine

Aug 30, 2010

I installed wine in my Linux (PCLinuxOS) and added an application called ABW. The app works fine, but the display of the app will work only if we use the font supplied by the software manufacturer. The software comes with a font called TERM768.FON.Can some one tell me how to install this font in wine, so that any application from wine can see/use this font?

Ubuntu :: Install A Specific Font From Mac OSX?

I received from a designer a zipped folder called "__MACOSX", and there are two font files, "._BCongress.scr" and "._BConNor".

How do I get these fonts installed?

I could not find any instructions on how to do this - I found the font converter Fondu, but it didn't seem to understand these file formats. I can't open them in Ubuntu Font Viewer either.

General :: Is Specifying A Font For A Specific Language Or Script Possible?

Mar 12, 2011

As a bilingual user, I have a lot of things that someone like that has to have like a lot of UNIcode fonts of the languages I use and keyboard layouts. My question is really simple (though the answer may not ):Is it possible to specify a specific font for a specific language? For example:

I have about four different looking Singhalese fonts on my system:
1. LKLUG
2. Bashitha
3. Malithi
4. another one... (awkward)

right now my system uses LKLUG, but I'd like to use Bashitha since it's more easy to read. How do I do this? Things like setting the system wide font in SystemSettings or other ways is not what I'm looking for though... my System font is DejaVu Sans, and I want the System to use Bashitha ONLY for the Singhalese text and DejaVu Sans for the rest..I tried modifying the ~/.fonts.conf file..

It's looks like OS 11.3 have problem with correct output on belinea monitor. Driver is installed correctly. I tried to genereate new xorg.conf .

Fedora :: Miss Wine's MS Sans Serif Font Yet?

Nov 20, 2010

When Wine went from v1.1.xx to v1.2.xx during the life cycle of Fedora 13, the font MS Sans Serif (sserife.fon, et.al.) went away from the Wine font folder. The situation continues in Fedora 14 with its wine v1.3.xx. The effect of this change was that it busted the fonts in some of my Wine applications. The sans serif font that I was used to seeing in those applications became a small hard-to-read serif font. With trial-and-error experiments in an old version, it was not hard to find out that the font these apps had been using was sserife.fon. Copying the old version's sserife.fon file to the new version's wine font folder restored the font, but it looked terrible. And the usual font smoothing and sub-pixel anti-aliasing stuff weren't enough to make it usable. And copying XP's .ttf fonts to ~/.fonts or the font folder in ~/.wine also did no good. Here is what gave me some relief from the ugly font in the new version.Open the wine registry (wine regedit).

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionFontSubstitutes Modify the key "MS Sans Serif" to specify a new substitute font. In my case the substitute font was Liberation Serif (the one I didn't like in my apps). I changed it to Liberation Sans, and I was happy enough again. I also found out today that a wine update resets the registry settings for this particular thing making the font issue return. It takes only seconds to set it back.

Ubuntu :: Tweaks Specific To WINE When Switching From Xubuntu?

May 7, 2011

On my initial move from Ubuntu to Xubuntu my FPS dropped from around 36 to 4.Recommendations from WINE were to make sure I was using proprietary drivers, and that any desktop affects like compiz fusion were disabled. Opening Menu > System > Additional Drivers revealed the following:

Querying this in #xubuntu on Freenode I learned that there is a known bug that drivers will be in use although this applet may report otherwise. On activating the other driver, reactivating the original 'current version', and rebooting, lspci -k outputs:

OpenSUSE :: Installing The Restricted Subpixel/freetype Smooth Font Packages On 11.4?

Mar 14, 2011

I love openSUSE, but I hate its default font rendering. On openSUSE 11.3, I am obtaining good results with the SubpixelHinting - openSUSE Community Wiki together with [url]. However, the previous repo doesn't have packages for 11.4. I know that there are some personal packages in the build service, but soon after the 11.3 release they pulled these personal packages because they might violate a patent. So where is a reliable, easy source for installing the best libraries for smooth fonts with subpixel hinting?

Ubuntu :: Fonts Look Different After Installing Wine?

Mar 23, 2010

I installed Wine on my machine just a few minutes ago and as part of the installation the following packages are also installed: ttf-liberation,
ttf-mscorefonts-installer, ttf-symbol-replacement, ttf-tahoma-replacement. These add extra fonts to the system which I'm assuming are required by windows programs running inside Wine. The problem is though that Firefox also seems to be using these fonts because the fonts now look different inside Firefox. Not a huge difference, but you can tell they are different and they just don't look "right" to the eye. They are no longer as pleasing as they were when Firefox was using the default Ubuntu fonts.

Is there a way to keep these fonts for use by Wine, but not allow any other program on Ubuntu to use them?

Debian Configuration :: Installing Specific Kernel As Boot Option?

Jul 29, 2011

I need to install any version of Debian with the Debian Kernel version 2.6.22-3-686. I don't mind what version of Debian it is, I just need it to have this specific kernel! Debian Etch comes with 2.6.18-4-686 and Lenny comes with 2.6.26-2-686 so the kernel I need is obviously somewhere in between.

I have tried using the following commands to see if kernel 2.6.22-3-686 is available for download via the apt-get method in both Debian Etch and Lenny but it is not...

apt-cache search linux-kernel
apt-cache search linux-source

So does anyone know where/how I can download specific kernels and install them for use? I have a computer sitting next to me that has multiple kernels as an option on boot, and they all boot into the same system, however I do not know the person who set up the computer so cannot ask them how they did it
