Ubuntu :: Degrade - Java Apps Freeze And Require Moving The Window Offscreen (below The Screen) To Redraw
Feb 11, 2011Yes im refering to Windows Degrade and how over time windows just running will degrade and start causing errors. DLLs go missing and bizzare things. Ive seen wierd things happen on a windows machine that is dedicated to one function. Well to my point, recently I have been having many linux issues, not like normal or anything throughout the years I have experimented with linux though.
1)entering fullscreen on VMware crashes linux sometimes (no Ctrl+Alt or Ctrl+Alt+F2 ect)
2)using a different monitor haults the virtual machine while other monitors do not (I have 4)
3)Java apps freeze and require moving the window offscreen (below the screen) to redraw
4)general linux freezing
5)glitch with xinerama that repeatedly teleports mouse between two monitors causing the system to be unusable (no Ctrl+Alt+F2 or anything either)
At first I thought they were all related to VMware but they may not be. I run VMware everyday for my slingbox and light EXE-ing when wine isnt an option. So I may not be asking for fixes to all these problems but whats going on? Ive seen linux installs last years and believed linux to not degrade.

Jul 21, 2010To analyse a coredump, I need to specify program name/path in GDB/KDevelop. Since the program name along with arguments is also within a core dump, I wonder if it doesn't keep the proper path of program that crashed and so asks for it?

Jun 17, 2011I am having troubles getting used to the new Ubuntu UI - Unity. One thing that bugs me is that I don't know how to find a program if I don't know the program's name. For example I remember I have an IRC client but I don't remember its name and its name does not contain IRC. Before I had Unity, programs were organised in categories, so to find the irc I just looked in the Internet category. The same happened to me with the writer program and others..Can anyone tell me how I can find a program by its category? I was surprised that I could not many complaints like mine on the web. I don't want to give up and go back to the old gnome cause I figure that there is just a learning curve to pass and beside there are some feature in it that I like.

Jun 12, 2010Is there a program in the repositories for physics? I don't mean a program that makes graphs etc. I just want a program such as the one I'm attaching but much more effective and that does more than just a spring on an inclined plane. I want torque, rotational motion, kinematics, pulleys and a system with two objects instead of one only etc in the program. If it doesn't exist, I'll make it myself but I will have the knowledge in probably close to a year from now so I unfortunately cannot do it yet.
Basically (like what I attached - except that it's not so great) is something that I can visually test my homework with. If there are programs for other aspects of physics that do the same thing such as for waves or optics etc, I'd like to have those too but my priority is mechanics right now.

any app that can analyze VBR/ABR filez - not just output a bogus bitrate, but return a more detailed info. LAME has a '-g' (run graphical analysis) option which has to be enabled during the compile time - tried several ways and -g is still disabled, plus there is not much info on -g and i do not even know if this is what I am looking for.

Mar 25, 2011I have a problem starting a java program.
I installed and am trying to run Antelope an ant file editor. When I try to start antelope I get the trace-back listed below.
When I first tried to start Antelope it asked me where ant/lib was located. I pointed it to /usr/share/ant/lib which has 3 jar files named ant.jar ant-bootstrap.jar and ant-launcher.jar.
I am running in Fedora14. With java version "1.6.0_20"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.7) (fedora-52.1.9.7.fc14-i386)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode) and javac 1.6.0_20
When I try to start it I get

I have tried it 2 ways, one with the environment variable ANT_HOME set to /use/share/ant/lib - which has some 3 jar files - and also to /home/knox/apache-ant-1.8.2/lib which has about 25 jar files. Same error message both ways.

This should be able to invisibly damage the contained data, and should work on CDs, DVDs and BRDs too (in theory). I don't want to write data over it, so it's not a matter of having a RW disc or a R one. The result I want to obtain is simply an unreadable disc that does not look damaged.
