OpenSUSE :: Finding Svn Client For Kde?

May 7, 2011

I am looking for an easy to use svn client for linux.I have been suggested to use kdesvn. The problem with that client is that there are a few things that I do not understand.

In kdesvn there is the
Subversion->Ceneral->check out repository
and there is also the File->open,

1) what is the difference between these two?

2) Also is there a way every time I launch kdesvn to have the same repository loaded in the same working directory?

3) When I change something into a file should I do file or whole folder commit? I am not sure what will be the best based on that I only write one comment which in the first case associates with the file only and in the latter associates with the whole folder.

4) What that blame button in the gui does?

Ubuntu :: Grub2 Not Finding All OS's?

Apr 13, 2010

I am in the process of trying out different Linux distros. This is what my hard drive partitions look like:

sda1 - Ubuntu
(Free space - about 150 GB)
sda3 - Windows (sadly)
sda4 - Windows Recovery

I successfully installed Fedora to the free space, which is now sda2, but when I was installing, I chose to keep my current bootloader so it wouldn't mess anything up. Now, I can't get Grub to detect my Fedora install, even after running 'update-grub' from the current Grub root (sda1).How can I get Grub to detect my Fedora install?

General :: Finding A Particular - Handheld PC ?

Oct 25, 2010

I have been trying to find a specific 'pc' recently and can't find it at all. As I recall, it is made by a small company, runs Linux, comes with a detachable keyboard, and all fits into an area a little larger than an iPhone. I believe it is ARM-based, though I fail to recall the GPU it used.

The site has (multiple) flash video of the unit, one specifcally playing a tank game of some description using nothing but the accelerometer to steer.

Debian :: Finding The Alternative To Jigdo?

Jun 18, 2011

I am wondering if there's a better alternative than jigdo. I was trying to help out and choose what is recommended but this jigdo crap is ridiculous. Didn't work for me and the primitive bad design of it is a waste of time.

Maybe Debian should consider joining today's technology. There are supposed to be hybrid isos you can download and even Ubuntu is finally joining the camps doing that.But, there's nothing on Debian web pages mentioning 'hybrid isos.' Who uses jigdo anyway?There's no way of entering the url or any instructions that make it intuitive. Get rid of the jigdo and do something different....

Debian Configuration :: Apt Not Finding Source?

Feb 21, 2010

I just finished installing Debian 2.1 on a very old laptop for some light word processing and web browsing, and am trying to get apt working so I can use it and dselect to install packages. Whenever I run apt-get update as a first step, I get stuck at 0% with an eventual timeout (this also happens when running the update step of dselect).

I know that my network card (a Farallon EtherWave) is working because I can ping my local gateway and remote sites. In my sources.list, I have this line for the Debian archive for this release: deb [url]contrib main non-free

Can anyone think of why I can ping the archive successfully, but apt will not read it? Do I need to change some network configuration, or my source line?

General :: Finding Out Why/how A Folder Is Being Created

Jun 22, 2010

There's a folder on my Linux desktop which shouldn't exist. The first time I saw it, I thought I'd accidentally copied it from somewhere else, so I deleted it. Now it's back again. So it must have been automatically created by some process, but what can I do to figure out which program is creating it? I think it's likely that if I delete the folder it'll eventually be created again, so I should be able to catch this program in the act if anyone can suggest a technique for doing so. By the way, there are no files in this mystery folder, and its name is the same as another folder I created months ago to hold my personal documents, not something that a program would create to hold its own configuration files or the like.

General :: Finding Alternative Filesystems For SSD?

Feb 14, 2011

I am tired of watching fsck check my filesystem when my eeepc 901 shuts down abruptly due to a crash. I know that with a journaling filesystem, I won't have to wait for a check. However, I am well aware of the poor I/O performance of the SSD, so I can imagine using a journaling filesystem being even more frustrating, since there will be constant writes to the journal? I will buy a new laptop without such a crummy ssd someday but, is there anything I can do now, on the software side of things?
