Software :: Ubuntu - Gnome-pilot Is Installed?

May 24, 2009

I used the PalmOS devices in System Preferences and got my Palm TX to synch. As far at that app goes everything is fine. In Synaptic Package Manager I have gnome-pilot installed. But I can't find where to launch the program. This problem has stumped me a few other times. I'm a recovering MS-WIN IT guy so I know how to find a program in windows when there is no shortcut or entry in Programs. But here in Nixland, I am clueless.

Fedora :: Gnome-pilot Doesn't Sync Calendar?

Oct 9, 2010

I have installed Fedora today after trying various Linux Distributions. The only other one I really used for a longer time was ubuntu. So, theres an application for syncing Evolution with my Palm (Tungsten E2) which is called gnome-pilot. I set it up, but in contrast to ubuntu, I can't sync my Contacts and calendar with fedora. THe only things I can chose are shown on the screenshot below.

Is there any way to make my palm also sync its calendar (like it perfectly worked in ubuntu) ?

Edit: I was too stupid to search for "Gnome-Pilot" in the packet manager. Because if I did, i would have found "Additional conduits" which allows me to do that

Software :: Making Jpilot - Gnome-pilot - Kpilot Or Others Recognize My Palm Tungsten E2

Jun 21, 2009

I cannot seem to make my Tungsten E2 handheld Palm OS PDA sync on ubuntu 9.04 with jpilot, gnome-pilot, or kpilot using my USB connection. I diff'd the output of the ls command when the pilot was trying to connect to sync, and with it entirely unplugged.

The result was the following:

Code:

I'm not seeing a ttyS0 or ttyUSB or pilot or anything which is kind of disturbing.../var/log/messages reports that the palm was only discovered as a "high-speed USB device," which would suggest my kernel is not recognizing it as a palm pilot.

How to configure any type of palm software or my kernel so that I can sync?

Software :: Pilot-link In Debian ?

May 17, 2011

I'm using jpilot with an old palm pilot. But, I can't get it to regularly sync. I read the README files from the pilot-link package, and did once get it to sync, but I can't seem to do it again.

The stuff I did was something along the lines of running the following commands:

Code:

I'm not sure exactly if this is what I did to get it to sync the one time, but those commands are from the README.usb file of the Debian package pilot-link, which I used.

It doesn't work now, and I'd hate to have to keep entering some variation of the above commands each time. There is another file, called README.Debian, that presumably tells users how to set it up to work once and for all. The problem is I don't really understand what the file is instructing.

Anyway, some of what the README.Debian says is:

Quote:

I haven't a clue what they're talking about here. Where is this "environment variable $PILOTPORT"? Why replace something that's concrete like /dev/pilot with something vague like whatever this "$PILOTPORT" is (again, another digression)?

Software :: Palm Pilot Synchronization To The KDE Databases For Kontact ?

Dec 14, 2010

I've been running Kubuntu (up to 10.10 now) and also OpenSuSE. I have a Palm Pilot that I want to synchronize to the KDE databases for kontact, kaddressbook, korganizer, etc. Until my upgrade to KDE 4.5.4 I was able to use kpilot, but kpilot is no longer being maintained and has been dropped altogether from KDE 4.5.4. So I've been stranded. It seems that both kpilot and jpilot are quite ancient, not having been materially updated for ten years.

One suggestion I've heard is to replace my Palm with an iPhone, but that's not a path I want to take. The iPhone has capabilities (telephony for one) that I don't need but would be paying dearly for. Not only is the iPhone far more expensive than the Palm; it entails that horrendous and extortionate two-year contract with AT&T.

How I can sync my Palm to the KDE databases? One possibility is some combination of akonadi and OpenSync, but there doesn't seem to be support for that yet, let alone a clear explanation as to how to get that combination to work.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Get A Fresh Install Of 11.3 To Sync A Palm Pilot With Jpilot

Jul 18, 2010

what files control the udev device mapping. I'm trying to get a fresh install of 11.3 to sync a palm pilot with jpilot.

I have created a "10-pilot.rules " file in /etc/udev/rules.d containing:

BUS=="usb", SYSFS{product}=="Palm Handheld*", KERNEL=="ttyUSB*", NAME="ttyUSB%n", SYMLINK+="pilot", GROUP="users" MODE="0666", OPTIONS+="last_rule"

when I hit hot-sync I get:

crw-rw-r-- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jul 18 22:13 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw-r-- 1 root dialout 188, 1 Jul 18 22:13 /dev/ttyUSB1

If spent the last 6 hours googling around and yes I'm a member of "dialout"

What is controlling the attributes of these nodes?

Oh, and P.S. Why'd they put alpha video drivers into the kernel another 3 hours wasted.

OpenSUSE Install :: Install Error - Config Defaults For GNOME For GNOME Power Manager Have Not Been Installed Correctly

Mar 4, 2010

Things were running fine until GNOME misbehaved;

GNOME failed to load telling me:

Install error, Configuration defaults for GNOME power manager have not been installed correctly.

So I

Code:

To the shell and check the logs in gdm and find this:

Could not ask power manager if user can suspend, launch helper exited with unknown return code 0.

So I try

Code:

To see if another user will get the desktop; I get the error

Cant create etc/passwd no space left on device.

So I

Code:

And get the following

I insert a usb drive to prepare for back up; Run

Code:

On the shell to get the usb device name; Then run

Code:

To mount the device.

I end up with:

Cant create lock file /etc/mtab~ 4610 No space left on device(use -n flag to override)

So, I

Code:

And see 9 partitionitions

Code:

Again to check which ones are loaded at boot up time and get

plus some other file systems mounted at boot up, but not mapping to any physical partitionition.

I try

Code:

On partition9 and get warnings because its mounted, so I chicken out and try

Code:

And run into the error:

cant create lock file /etc/mtab~4832 no space left on device (use -n flag to override)

Good thing is there is a

Code:

Since space is a problem, I

Code:

On partition6 which is not mounted at boot up time and try to

Code:

I still get the error

cant create lock file /etc/mtab~4735 no space left on device (use -n flag to override

Code:

For package update tells me

cant open /var/run/zypp.pid in mode w

Code:

For power management tells me its not even recognised as a command.

Ubuntu :: Install A Minimal Gnome Setup Without Any Of The Usually Installed Apps

May 25, 2011

I'm trying to install a minimal Gnome setup without any of the usually installed apps. Last time I tried this it worked fine but that was a couple of years ago (see this thread if you're interested). The closest I've got so far is to install a CLI system from the alternate install CD and then run:

Code:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude -y full upgrade
sudo aptitude -y install xorg gdm gnome-core plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo ubuntu-artwork jockey-gtk network-manager synaptic

The problem is that one of these packages (I think that it's gnome-core) installs Epiphany, Evince, Evolution, Gwibber and Ubuntu One which I don't want. how to get a minimal system installed without these apps?

Ubuntu :: Cannot Access 10.04LTS - GNOME Hasn't Been Installed Correctly

I cannot access ubuntu anymore. I have ubuntu 10.04LTS Lucid Lynx. Ubuntu always prompts me to do updates. On the last update, the system wasn't able to find 4 files online. So it aborted the update and reverted to the previous state. On the next startup I could still access ubuntu. But the startup after that I got the inlog-screen (with username and password), and even with the correct username and password that's as far as it goes. In the lower right corner it says:

Install problem! The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly contact your administrator. What can I do to access ubuntu again? I can, when I reboot, start up in recovery mode (but I have no clue what to do with the prompt). I can also start up older 'kernels': kernel 2.6.32-30-generic, 2.6.32-29-generic, 2.6.32-28-generic, 2.6.32-24-generic. Each of them also has a recovery mode. Not sure if this is useful at all though. Laptop: AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology MT-37, 1.99 GHz, 1,00 GB RAM.

Ubuntu :: The Configuration Defaults For Gnome Power Manager Have Not Been Installed Correctly

Oct 10, 2010

I was using simple backup config to backup home to an external drive and it was working fine for the past week or so and today after the backup the computer was restarted and I am unable to log on. I get an error message saying. "the configuration defaults for gnome power manager have not been installed correctly "

I did some googling and the problem is that / is full. I have been trying for the past three hours to delete some space on / so that I can log on. I used ctr-alt-f1 and I can log on there but whatever command I use to delete the root trash it fails. I get an error message saying /root/.local/share/Trash/files/ is not a file or directory.

delete root trash so I can log onto this computer. I have used every variant of sudo rm -r /root/.local/share/Trash/files/ that I could find including one using Chmod. I have already tried the commands found in this tutorial [URL]

I also reinstalled gnome but that did nothing.

I then get a black screen, with the menu bar at the bottom, and a choice of who to log in as. No matter who I choose I get the same error message and then it takes me back to the same screen. It also gives me the choice of what session to use but again, no matter what I choose it just takes me back to the error message and the same screen. I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on an Eeepc 901. I have the Netbook version installed, but I was using the desktop session. The last time my computer worked I ran update manager and it updated some Intel driver i think. Sorry I can't remember the exact details. Not sure if this is something to do with it.

Debian Multimedia :: Jessie Gnome 3.14 - Installed Applications Not Found

Dec 31, 2015

I have did a clean installation of Debian Jessie today on my laptop and my computer.I use the Gnome 3.14.1 Desktop environment.

I installed Spotify-Client via PPA, and i installed the gconf-editor, gufw and Google Earth. Those 3 applications are not visable in the Gnome applications menu.

If i run then via the terminal, e.g. spotify-client, gconf-editor, gufw and google-earth, the applications are started. They seem to be installed correctly. I tried either running apt-get purge spotify-client gconf-editor google-earth-stable gufw, and reinstalled those applications, to no avail.

I even tried installing another desktop environment, mate-desktop. The shortcuts to the applications do exist in /usr/share/applications. Only not in the Gnome 3 menu. It's strange, because this problem happens both on my desktop and my laptop computer.

I run:
Debian Jessie 8.2.0 with Gnome 3.14.1.
Kernel 3.16.0-4
amd64 architecture

I also tried reinstalling Gnome-Shell and GDM. But it doesn't work.

Before, Debian Wheezy 7.9 was installed, and there was no problem. My Debian installation is fully up-to-date.
