Jul 8, 2010In my RHEL 5.4 system after each reboot the device file of tape changer (IBM-3310 Tape library) is changing.So i am not able to give a fixed device file in backup software.

Software :: SLES11 / Udev Rules / Tape Media Changer?
Oct 1, 2009at our SLES11 server there is an iscsi tape roboter from OVERLAND attached. From this great forum we learnt to use udev rules in order to fix the device name for the media changer /dev/sgN where N is altering after each reboot. Here is the udevinfo output of our tape changer:

instance the command #mtx -f /dev/sg1 load 2 which is doing very well. But after a server's reboot the device name of the loader is now /dev/sg4 or /dev/sg5 I mean it is dynamic. Is there any way to have a fixed device name for all times?
General :: Share Local Tape Device To Server Via Ssh Session?
Nov 21, 2010I have my local computer, and server.
I log into server, and mount my local computer (folder) via sshfs.
Create .rar backup archive direct to sshfs remote folder.
After copy, close my ssh sessions.
And use my streamer to backup files stored by server.
I'm wondering, is there any way to share streamer /dev/st0 via ssh session ?
how can i start backup direct to (remote) -> root@server/dev/st0

Apr 3, 2016I have been using an LTO-5 Ultrium-3000 tape drive connected to an ATTO HBA without problem. I can control the tape drive using "mt -f /dev/nst0" and have been able to make successful backups using cpio, tar, and dump/restore. I followed some instructions on the web about how to install the HPE Library and Tape Tools application (version 4.21) which relies on conversion of a rpm to a deb file. The software seems to have been installed correctly and runs. However the hardware scan function does not recognize my tape drive. The following is suggested in the user manual if the tape device is not recognized by the software under Linux:
1. Login as root.
2. Edit the following file:
vi /etc/modules.conf
3. Add the following line as appropriate:
add options scsi_mod max_scsi_luns=128
4. Reboot the computer.
The problem is I don't have an /etc/modules.conf and am not sure exactly which file would be equivalent? If this is even the correct solution.
My tape drive is controllable and functions well using "mt -f /dev/nst0 status" so it seems to be a matter of LT&T software to detect the tape drive.

Does the tar application automatically span tapes or do I need to use switches so it spans multipule tapes? Right now my Full backup will take 2 or 3 tapes.

i removed the tape by holding the eject button and now when i try to insert another tape, it's unable to take the tape in to tape drive...

Apr 25, 2011I have many disks and volumes in my system. Some of disks IDE, some SATA.
Volumes on SATA disks cause me problems - I have them listed in etc/fstab, but on every boot, they have different name:
/dev/sdd* becomes /dev/sdb*
/dev/sde* becomes /dev/sdc*
etc. on every boot.
1) Why is this happening?
2) How can I prevent it?
3) If I can't, is there a workaround?

I can always sudo chmod 666 /dev/fw0 just before setting the thing up, but then it will be gone on the next rebooting.The solution to modify /etc/udev/rules.d/020-permissions.rules (which is for Ubuntu Breezy) doesn't go well for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick because there is no /etc/udev/rules.d directory.

ALSA shows it as a card with 4 devices and I can get sound through one of them (the other three are different channels, perhaps? I have only stereo output connected). Although Pulseaudio has the right card set as default, it seems to me that it plays on a wrong device. Pacmd shows that the sink has parameter alsa.device set to the first device listed by ALSA, but I can get sound only from the second one.How can I force Pulseaudio to use another device of the same card as a default output?

Jun 18, 2010Changing the brightness and keyboard brightness does not give a notification, though the brightness changes. In addition, ejecting a cd, plugging in a usb device, and seeking/playing music gives no notification (though Rhythmbox tells me what track I've skipped to/played). Again, the cd does eject, the usb device can be accessed, etc. I'm not sure if this last one is a problem, but every notification except for the volume one appears about 80 pixels down from the top panel. This 80 pixels below the panel is only ever occupied by the volume notification. Ubuntu 10.04, gnome-power-manager 2.30.0 ubuntu1, notify-osd 0.9.29-0ubuntu2. I'm using a Dell Studio 1555 notebook.

I have the fstab file configured correctly, but it still resorts to some odd default mounting points. Edit suposedly the device name changes whenever I boot with a flash drive plugged in. Jun 24, 2010i downloaded backtrack 4 (final) and booted the iso onto a flash drive using unetbootin. i then changed the boot order so the flash drive was first. after i did that i got into backtrack 4 did the install.sh and now i cant boot windows 7. even after changing the boot order to default, i turn my computer on and get a message that says:

Apr 28, 2010I have been attempting this install for a couple weeks. I suppose I enjoy banging my head against the wall. (desktop drapes and wallpaper tray have not been working for me consistently). I have installed libqt4-dev, qt4-qmake, and qt4-dev-tools to go along with the install, installed the .deb package--or at least attempted to--and nothing. Well, ok, not nothing, but close. I click on applications/accessories/wally and the wally picture comes up like it's loading but I have no interface to add where I want the program to look for pictures or anything else (right clicking on wally give me the "launch, properties, remove from panel, move" menu). It says it's installed, but without the menu or whatever, I can't control it, so it isn't actually working. I have tried un-installing it and installing via terminal per instructions on the author's website but still no go.

Mar 10, 2011I was doing a tutorial on scripting in bash. I saved my file on the desktop and I cannot seem to get to that file to execute it. Here is what I have been using:
I try cd Desktop says that there is no such directory.
I tried /home/me/Desktop same thing.
