Software :: How To Setup A Proxy

I have a dynamic IP and cant get a static IP. I have bought a VPS in the US with a fixed IP. I wanted to setup a Proxy so that I can access my clients servers from one IP only as they restrict outside access from all IPs.

How should I setup this proxy so that I can simply put in the IP and port of the VPS in my browsers proxy settings and it accesses the clients servers as its IP will be allowed by the client ? Is this a Apache Proxy I need to setup ?

Ubuntu Servers :: How To Setup Web Proxy

Jan 16, 2011

I've got LAMP up and working and I'm currently hosting a joomla install on the server. I was wondering if there's an easy way to get a web proxy working on my site. I'd like to be able to use it just like you would at hidemyass.com. By simply supplying a url it'll provide the proxy services for me. I've looked through joomla's extensions library and don't see any extensions that'd provide that functionality. I was hoping that there'd just be some prepackaged web proxy application I could install.

Anyone out there know of any simple way of getting this up and running. I've looked at Squid but that looks like it's primarily a proxy server intended for internal network users. I didn't see any sort of web proxy feature to install on a web server there.

Fedora Networking :: Transparent Proxy With A Home Router?

Mar 8, 2010

I have set up many Dansguardian/Squid proxy servers. All of them have been on a network where I could use Microsoft Group Policies to force the proxy settings on each machine. The entire setup is quite easy, surprisingly robust, and reliable as hell.

My Dentist talked to me today and asked for something different. He wants to set his office up as a wireless hot spot for his patrons, and he wants their surfing directed through a proxy server. I plan on putting them on a completely different subnet and independent router. Now, since I won't have the convenience of GP I'm wondering if there is a way to force all internal Port 80 traffic through the Proxy server but obviously not the Proxy itself. I would like to use the router to do this and not the Linux box. Is there a low cost home router like Linksys or Netgear that will do this?

Ubuntu Networking :: Proxy Settings For Work And Home

Mar 22, 2010

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 on my dell d830 ..everything worked great no issues. did my normal mods and packaged updates and the works. this laptop i used at work and home, at work i use a windows 7 vm running ontop of my ubuntu and at home well ubuntu of-coarse. work has a proxy setting and my home network doesnt, so i decided to create two profiles on the system > preferences > network proxy One for home > with direct Internet connect And Another for work for defined proxy settings.

Everything was cool...then the one day when i tried to install graphics card driver, it gave a "cant not resolver proxy " error...i checked my profile and it was on home...i also deleted all profiles and set it to default and it still dont work..firefox works cause you can set proxy setting directly on firefox , but now i cant do any "apt-get" because some how ubuntu is still picking up my work network proxy setting? somehow it like stuck on the work network proxy setting although i delete the profiles too...?

Ubuntu Servers :: Use Home Server As Proxy When Abroad?

Mar 11, 2011

At home I have an Ubuntu 10.10 Server which is my fileserver and squeezebox server for my home LAN.

My home Internet connection is a 10/10Gbit fiber (soon to be upgraded to 25/25, I was told by my ISP).

How hard is it for me (I'm not too technical) to make my home server a proxy for surfing through when I am abroad?

The thing is: our national broadcaster (www.nrk.no) broadcasts live streaming TV, but only to IP addresses in Norway. When I am travelling abroad, I would like to use my home server as a proxy in order to be able to receive these streams as if I was on my home IP address (more or less like the services offered from the US in order to make it possible for non-US people to watch hulu.com etc.)

I would prefer a proxy setup, instead of slingbox or similar.

I already perfomed the following steps:

1.) compile from source

Code: Select all./configure --with-openssl   --enable-ssl-crtd
make
make install

2.) configuration (http)
I used this guide: [URL]

3.) configuration (https)

The server is now working for http and https, but is the server secure, too? Is the default config already secure or do I need to configure additional security features? (e.g. things like cert validation, cert pinning, [dont know what's importend], ...)

General :: How To Setup Stream Across Subnet Using HTTP Proxy

Jun 27, 2010

Computer A has two network interfaces. One is on a 255.255.255.240(eth0) subnet and has an IP of 192.168.1.6 and the other is on 255.255.255.0(eth1) subnet and has an IP of 192.168.1.64.
eth1 can communicate with modem(192.168.1.254), which also acts as a gateway to the Internet.
eth0 can communicate with my internal LAN, which consists of several computers including Computer B. This subnet 255.255.255.240 has it's own gateway to the internet at 192.168.1.1. However gateways will not apply to this scenario. I just added them to help paint a picture of my network.

What I am trying to do is tunnel http from a web server running on the modem(192.168.1.254) across to Computer B within my internal LAN and be able to view the http content via a browser. Sure I can just open a browser on Computer A, but I'm running Computer A headless. I can also curl it from a command line, but I'd like to learn how to tunnel across a subnet. If I get this to work, would I be able to interact with the site(i.e. make modem configuration changes)? or would it just be one way? How do I tunnel data from the eth1 subnet over to the eth0 subnet and over to Computer B on my internal LAN?

What I tried was the following:
I setup a proxymini to run on Computer A and have it listening on the eth0 interface on port 8080 by using this command 'proxymini -l 192.168.1.6 -p 8080'.
Then on computer B, I setup httptunnel -a 80 -p 192.168.1.254:80 -d 192.168.1.64:8080.
Then I should be able to view the site through a browser on port 80 on the computer I run httptunnel? This setup isn't working.

Ubuntu :: Setup Personal Server To Use As Proxy/Off Site Backup?

Jul 30, 2011

I have a simple issue that I think can be solved with several different methods. I basically want to create a personal server solution that allows me to do two things:

1.) I want to be able to remotely backup data to my server.

2.) I want to be able to pass traffic through it and use it as a proxy.

I am off to college next year and I want to leave a computer/server back home to do the two things stated above. I was thinking of using an Asus Eee Box PC like this:url

I want a low power reliable machine that will only be used as a remote solution. I won't be hooking up a monitor to it (that is, after I set it up).

It will be on 24/7 for easy access.

I will be accessing this server from a Windows 7 based machine.

I do not mind at all installing Linux on my server, but I am not an experienced coder so I will need software with a GUI that can help me set this all up.

Ubuntu Servers :: Port Forwarding Setup Using IPTables - Transparent Proxy

May 13, 2010

I'm new to linux, but enjoy using it very much, especially without a GUI, console is fun! I need to set up port forwarding. We have 3 servers, 1x running Ubuntu server 8.04 (used as transparent proxy), 1x server 2003, 1x windows xp.

The linux box has the following ips:
eth0 (internal) 192.168.1.5
eth1 (external) 192.168.0.7

Windows server 2003:
192.168.1.6

Windows XP:
192.168.1.9

Router:
192.168.0.1

The router automatically forwards specific ports to 196.168.0.7 (Linux eth0). From there I want to forward port 8585 to 192.168.1.6 and 3000 to 192.168.1.9. Is there a way that I can do this using iptables?

The commands that I think I'm gonna use look like this:
iptables -A FORWARD -s 192.168.0.0/24 -p tcp --dport 8585 -d 192.168.1.6 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -s 192.168.0.0/24 -p tcp --dport 3000 -d 192.168.1.9 -j ACCEPT

Would this be a correct way of doing it? My biggest problem is that I can't test it without going live, and if I go live and something doesn't work, the entire building will be left without internet, people will hate me. Also, The proxy captures all data on port 80 and forwards it to 3128 so that the proxy can monitor the usage, and a few systems runs fine with it, others however can ping websites, and internet explorer says "website found, waiting for reply" but the webpages cannot be displayed.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setup SOCKS5 Proxy - Cannot Find A Way To Get A SOCKS Server Up And Running On VPS

Mar 30, 2010

I have an interesting situation. I'd like to use bittorrent for legitimate purposes (mainly linux distro based) but the powers that be have blocked access to bittorrent at my university. I have an ubuntu VPS that I use for odds and ends and was thinking that I could setup a SOCKS5 server on it. That way, I can input the SOCKS5 info directly into the proxy section of my local bittorrent application (Transmission 1.92 running on snow leopard) and be good to go. The problem, however, is that I cannot find a way to get a SOCKS server up and running on my VPS. I've heard that ssh can be used as a simple SOCKS server, but I've also heard that i may need to install a more complete SOCKS server such as dante. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Debian :: How To Setup A Home Server

Feb 14, 2010

I want to try and set up a server on a home PC, using Debian of course, rather than on a remote server. hosting web pages, a mail server and a file server etc. Installation looks fairly straightforward. However, there are one or two things that are not too clear to me:

A. Is it best to connect the server using Ethernet or is wireless OK with network manager or wicd or doesn't it matter? Answer: Wired ethernet is best

B. if the IP of my desktop Debian (wireless) has the same IP as the server, how do I connect from my desktop? The router has its own static IP address but assigns two different IP addresses, one to the desktop computer and the other to the PC being used as a server.

C. I have a static IP and a domain.com without hosting but it's status is "parked". Not too sure what this implies. [When domain is "parked" it means it is still hosted by the company that registered it. So it's necessary to "unpark" it.] It was very easy to unpark the domain as explained in a reply post below.

D. setting up DNS with the static IP? [Answer: in the case of the company i registered with, I didn't have to set up any DNS because the domain works with the company name servers, so it was much less complicated than i imagined.]

E. I seem to have only ONE Primary DNS for my connection.

F. it's better on a server to have no Desktop. It looks easy enough to install but, accustomed though I am to the CLI. configuring without cut and paste is very tedious. Can anyone suggest a way round this? I've thought of trying to use the lynx browser and nano. [Answer: Best to install the server without a Desktop. For editing files I used PuTTy, which enables me to cut and paste and nano having found vi pretty unfriendly. One day i'll get round to using vi or vim which may be more than a blast from the past! Once the thing is fully set up it would be nice to connect to the server from the first desktop computer using GUI tools.
