Networking :: Fetchmail Attempts To Deliver To Non-existent Users With Localhost As Domain

Feb 27, 2010

I'm using slackware 13.0, 32-bit with sendmail, fetchmail, procmail and mutt. This is a recent install of slack, for several years, I have used a similar configuration on ubuntu, but with postfix as the MTA instead of sendmail. My system has one user: tim. Email sent to me at any of my email addresses that have 'tim' has the host component, are received, but along with that delivery is the delivery of an error message. Below is a copy of such a delivery.

General :: Send Mail From Domain As A User That Does Not Exist As Well As Email From Other Non-existent Domains

Jul 31, 2010

I have a server with a static IP that I use as a sendmail server. The problem is that port 25 is exposed. As a result, anybody can login to the SMTP server and send mail from my domain as a user that does not exist as well as email from other non-existant domains. I'm sure there are sendmail options that I can enable to do some checks, like if the user exists on that server or if the domain is the same on the server, etc. I was wondering if you guys can mention a few that I can add to my sendmail.mc file?

I have thought about auth login, the problem is if auth login is on my public port then I won't be able to receive email from gmail because it would be unauthenticated. Also, I only have 1 mail server. I know the ideal solution is to have 2 mail servers. One for outgoing mail/internal mail server where you can enable auth login and the other for incoming mail which just acts as the relay to the internal mail server. That way spammers can't login to send mail out. That's another question I had, how do I configure sendmail to only send email out/in?

Anyhow, so I have to make do with 1 mail server for now. So I decided to add a few rules on iptables. I grabbed the IP range that gmail uses when I receive mail from then and added it to my iptables with the following command.

Ubuntu :: How Interacts With Domain Users When On The Windows Domain

Feb 3, 2010

At work, we run Windows... Windows domain, windows workstations, etc. Today my boss asked me my thoughts on running an Ubuntu lab within the mixture of our existing Windows setup.

Well, that brought several questions to mind. So I understand you can bind an Ubuntu computer to a Windows domain, seems easy enough, whether you do it through Samba or the other guide I read that I kind of forget at the moment, but anyway...

I was just curious how Ubuntu interacts with domain users when on the windows domain. For example, if we have an Ubuntu machine on the Windows domain with a local user "administrator" and that's it, would any domain users be able to log into the Ubuntu work station, similar to how it is on Windows?

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Connection With WMP600N Very Slow Or Non-existent

May 15, 2010

I have installed Fedora 12 OS which is using kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64. I am using a Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual Band card which has a Ralink chipset. I have installed the latest rt2860 driver which uses the 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 kernel. If there is any other pieces of information that is need I can provide it.

Problem: I can use either the Ethernet connection which is built into my ABIT mother board or my PCI wireless card. My Ethernet connection works perfectly however; my wireless card comes up attaches to my wireless router; that's it. There is a strong signal, the WPA2 security password works correctly. I am able to ping my loop-back address and my DHCP IP address for my wireless card but I can not ping the router or anything outside of my box.

If I let the ping program run for a while and allow it to try to ping the router, after a period of time ~5minutes or so I will get several hits and then stop. The firewall does not change from my Ethernet connection to my wireless connection. The Wireless connection is a trusted interface in my firewall specifications. Questions/Thoughts:

Can I use the same OS provided routing table for my Ethernet connection for my wireless connection? Would the OS know which port to use by switching to a wireless connection (after reboot)? Do I need to somehow switch or bridge the port? Is the wpa_supplicant playing with my connection and opening it up and then shutting it down? Below are some netstat data: routing, interface table, statistics, and dmesg on the kernel driver rt2860.

Networking :: TUN - TAP Driver With IPv6 - Tun0 Does Not Deliver Info To User Space

Oct 26, 2010

I use an application that encapsulates IPv4 packets in an IPv4 tunnel using the TUN/TAP driver in Linux. There is a fancy protocol used between the 2 layers. This software works like a charm.

I have started modifying the source code in order to send IPv6 packets in an IPv4 tunnel. So far, the software seems to work fine but the information (packets) does not seem to make their way back to the user space.

I initiate an ICMPv6 packet with ping6. It gets in the tun0 interface. The software makes the IPv4 encapsulation and sends the information out of the system. The ICMPv6 echo reply comes back to the system with the corresponding encapsulation. The software removes the encapsulation and writes the packet in the tun0 interface. The ping6 application never receives ICMPv6 echo reply.

I have confirmed the integrity of the transaction using tcpdump on the tun0 interface. The interface comes up with the "inet 6 addr" only. The interface has the flags "UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING". The RX/TX counters are incrementing and no drops are observed at the interface level.

How can I troubleshoot this problem? There seems to be a lost link between the tun0 driver and the user space applications. The system uses SuSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP1. This is based on kernel 2.6.16. This is quite old.

General :: Ssh With Domain Users On RHEL And MSAD 2003

Jun 23, 2010

I need to configure LDAP and connect it to Microsoft Active Directory 2003 SP2 to manage my RHEL 5.5 with Microsoft windows Domain

At this point I'm able to query MSAD (getent passwd/group lists all the users/groups from Domain as well as local)

Also Kerberos authentication is working (kinit user is working and klist are returning expected results)

Now my problem is that I cannot ssh into the RHEL box with any of the Domain Users even though I can see those account in getent results.

My first question is if everything is ok with my system-auth configuration file (I'm not sure if all is needed and in right order):

auth required pam_env.so
auth required pam_tally.so deny=5
auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok try_first_pass

Software :: Configuring Samba Users To Join Clients To The Domain?

Feb 3, 2011

Im currently using an english book to setup my samba server, and im having problems understanding it.

I dont want to use root to join clients to the domain; i prefer creating a plain user.

Ok, so, the steps i follow are:

net groupmap add unixgroup=srvadmins ntgroup="Server Admins"
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=dmnadmins rid=512 type=d
net rpc rights grant 'ORAServer Admins' seMachineAccountPrivilege

This way, i have a group called srvadmins with permissions to join clients, a group called dmnadmins with permissions to manage users and other permissions, and root.

Now, users: "root", "dmnadmin"(from dmnadmins group) and "srvadmin" (from srvadmins group) can add machines to domain. Root because is root, srvadmin because i granted permissions, and dmnadmin because is admin

So i wonder, why srvadmins group is needed to be granted privileges?

I tryed to lower dmnadmins privileges by revoking semachineaccountprivilege privilege, but didnt worked

net rpc rights revoke 'ORADomain Admins' seMachineAccountPrivilege

looks like its privileges comes from another group and it user managed to add a machine to the domain correctly.

Ok, so, is this really usefull? why do i need 3 kind of users to be able to join to the domain?

Fedora Installation :: Domain Users Logged Out On Login Using Winbind - Samba

Nov 12, 2010

Have recently setup Samba on a fresh install of Fedora 14 so that I can use it as a workstation in a Windows 2003 (win2k3) domain.

The install of Samba seems to have worked as I can connect to the Domain using ADS and kerberos. selinux and firewall have been disabled until I have it working 100%

The problem lies when i try to login to Gnome or TTY. It begins to create the home directory for the domain user logging in but after a certain process Fedora logs the user out of the system.

Have looked through several log files (/var/log/messages, log.winbindd, log.winbindd-dc-connect) but am unable to debug it any further.

Have posted the config files below which shows the Fedora machine is successfully connected to the domain as it lists its groups, users and validates logon credentials - it just won't logon!

Where i can go about debugging. Also if you need additional configs.

Ubuntu Servers :: Samba Share Using Domain User/group In Valid Users?

May 20, 2010

I have Ubuntu server 10.04 joined to a domain using Likewise Open. I can login using my domain credentials and have added my domain account to the sudoers file. Now that I've got it joined to the domain I want to add some samba shares and have domain members use their accounts to access them. However, no matter what combination of my domain name and the domain user or group I use in the valid users field it won't let me in. What's the proper way of inputting a domain user or group in the valid user field?

This is the entry I'm using for the share:

Code:
[testshare]
path = /srv/testshare
valid users = @"Domain Name+Domain Group" (Have tried many things here)
public = no
writable = yes
printable = no
create mask = 0765

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up An LDAP / Windows Users Be Able To Log In To Their Machines Using Domain Controller?

Oct 18, 2010

Im an IT manager for a small company with a small ammount of users. We already use linux for our data server and I would like to implement a domain controller. All of our user machines are WIndows XP pro.

Ive been reading up on using OpenLDAP as an alternative to active directory.

What I want is just a simple active directory like server, with a GUI if possible.

What do I need to look at and how would I go about setting this up? Im fairly proficient with Ubuntu already, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Is it even possible to have my windows users be able to log in to their machines using an ubuntu domain controller?

Ubuntu Networking :: UFW Failing To Log All Connection Attempts?

Feb 17, 2011

I am trying to write a little port knocking daemon that needs to see every failed connection attempt on every port on the system. The primary way to do this (as the Wikipedia page points out) is to monitor the firewall log file. I am using UFW and reading its output in /var/log/kern.log. Typically, when UFW blocks something, it prints a little line like this:

Quote:
Feb 17 10:42:42 serin kernel: [323588.279588] [UFW BLOCK INPUT]: IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:0b:e6:00:85:96:00:09:5b:9f:41:a4:08:00 SRC=192.168.0.4 DST=192.168.0.8 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x20 TTL=49 ID=46945 PROTO=TCP SPT=56849 DPT=1723 WINDOW=5840 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0

But it seems that whenever UFW experiences a significant "load" (my client sends eight packets over the span of about 25 seconds, not too significant if you ask me), it just kind of "gives up" after 10 or so attempts. Log messages stop appearing in kern.log. I know the packets are coming; wireshark confirms this.

It seems to me that a buffer of some sort is filling up, because if I give the system a breather and try sending my sequence again in, say, three minutes, it prints log messages for 10-12 straight attempts before giving up again. I've tried sending packets at longer intervals and reading from other logs like /var/log/messages, but none of this has helped. Does anyone have any idea why UFW would fail to log all blocked connection attempts?
