What is the problem?
I've searched upon numerous links for a "fix" but they are either for older releases of fedora, or, I was able to make appropriate changes to the F12 KDE4 release such as the F11 how to fix pulseaudio and vlc guide in this forum
Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server,sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway

I'm working on a music-related project built on python. I'd be interested in been able to use timidity to synthesize sound for me. I'm doing it on my application but I'm only using simple sine waves for all music and I'd like to be able to sound more realistic. Are the hooks available of timidity for python?

Sound Recorder is there in the default install of course, but it doesn't seem to have any kind of level meter in it. I have used audacity in the past, but maybe that's overkill.

I would want to record/edit/save music from the microphone (convert a tape to CD). But. I start audacity, leave everything at default, record the music, and play back. It plays agonisingly slow. I can change the sample rate manually such that it sounds good, but this is just a guess (I could for example measure the recording time, and adjust the sample rate after that, such that the displayed time on the timeline fits this time). Why the hell do I need to do this? Why is the recording sample rate = playbe sample rate not producing correct output?

Here's the scenario: I make occasional programmes for the local community radio station, pre-recording them on my computer, using a fairly decent microphone (via a mixer and pre-amp, feeding into the line-in socket on the sound card). Recording and editing is handled with Audacity, and, despite the hardware being basic stuff, I get pretty good spoken-word audio quality like this.
I want to be able to include telephone interviews with guests, preferably recorded using my mic/mixer setup so that at least my half of the conversation is of the usual studio quality. How can I achieve this? Is a voice modem the thing to use (and if so, could someone walk me through how to use one under Ubuntu, please), or are there other hardware or software solutions? The landline in question is a BT-type here in the UK.
how do i get audacity to record what the computer is playing? for instance, if i have a videos video open in firefox and i want to record the audio, what would i have to do? i've played around with the audio setting in ubuntu and audacity 1.3.9 but i couldn't get it to work.

I followed this guide to install the drivers: [URL] It seems to have installed alright I cannot tell if it worked. I am not using MythTV, nor am I interested in MythTV. I just want a simple application to watch ATSC channels. Me-TV seems like an application that fits the bill. It says there are no digital tuners detected though. I don't know if the drivers did not install or if the card isn't supported by the application.

Buggering about with a DVD recorder is a lot of trouble. How is it possible to do this - surely pretty basic - job? Buggered if I know. It is important to compress the thing into *.avi format or something like that. Otherwise it takes up a huge amount of space.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Slackware64 newly installed to an external USB drive to get used to KDE4 and whatnot as I currently run Slackware 12.0. It's been very good and I now feel a little alienated when I reboot to Slackware 12 and KDE 3. There is an ongoing problem though. My machine has a front mounted jack socket for headphones which cuts off the feed to my external speakers as it should. When ever I plug in my headphones the volume coming through them rapidly drops off to nothing, If I then unplug them no sound comes back out through the external speakers. It could be that they are being reinstated when I unplug the headphones but the sound level has dropped to zero - as it has in the headphones. The machine has an on board Intel sound device reported like this :

This is a real pain and the only solution seems to be to reboot. This not only happens when in KDE but also if I run "speaker-test" as a test from the CLI as well.
i created a 26 gig partition for ubuntu but in my home folder it says a only have like 83 mb of free space. so i can't really add music or anything to my computer. sony vaio p series. 60 gig hard drrive. ubuntu 11.04

Running Squid version 2.6.STABLE21 on CentOS5 release 5.5 (Final) in non transparent mode. All the browsers are configured to connect to the squid on the said port.
