Software :: May All Programs Be Classified Into These Two Categories?

Jun 11, 2011

A browser extension is a computer program that extends the functionality of a web browser in some way. Depending on the browser, the term may be distinct from similar terms such as plug-in or add-on. Mozilla Firefox was designed with the idea of being a small and simple web browser, delegating more advanced functions to Mozilla extensions.Question: may all programs be classified into these two categories?: Firefox plugins or extensions and external (to firefox) programs? If so, what of these two is the category into which gxine falls?I could, maybe, manage to make mplayer the default player for .pls files sent over internet by radio statios..

Ubuntu :: GDesklets Not Showing All The Categories?

Dec 28, 2010

recently I installed gDesklets with some minor problems that I fixed along the way.. But now that it finally works, I don't see all the categories? For example, the System/CPU category is missing etc.. Here is a screenshot of gDesklets Shell open:So, the problem is that it's not showing all the categories needed.. So, any advice? Edit #1: I found out that what I was looking for was the SideCandy things from gDesklets.. And I tried Screenlets, but it doesn't have what I need and the look is not really me..PS. If anyone could tell me what "desklets" these are: [URL]- I would really appreciate it! The theme is Mira, but I tried installing it, but it didn't really change a lot of my main Ubuntu theme, and it didn't install the desklets

Debian :: Search Through Package Categories By Popularity?

Mar 30, 2011

I want to find some interesting games but the complete list looks a bit daunting. I can search the web for this information but what would be even better is if I could search a category in order of popularity. Is there a way to do this? Categories can be found here: [URL]

If not, is there a way I can find a list of packages in textlist format (like here: [URL]) for each category (rather than a complete list)?

Debian :: How To Switch Between Programs

May 25, 2011

I recently got a server up, and there's Debian on it. Text-based debian, no GUI. And i quitte like it, but i have one problem. In windows i can start program a, minimalize it and then start program b. But lets say i create a program with an infitite loop that only prints hello world on my debian server, I can't do anything else while its running, i have to press ctrl+c to be able to do something else. So my question is: is there a way to "minimalize" my self-written program to do something else, while its running, and to switch back later?

My main goal is to use this to remote into my home computer. I *think* I installed rdesktop, but I don't know how to access it or where it was installed. Here's what I did to install it:

su -c 'yum install rdesktop'

The installer downloaded a package and reported that the install completed.

I'm brand-spanking new to Ubuntu and so far am greatly enjoying this magnificent OS. Though, after attempting to install Wine, I now this error when trying to install any program: 'E:Type 'main' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-lucid.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Here is the source list where I'm assuming the error is coming from:

# See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes for how to upgrade to
# newer versions of the distribution.

Ubuntu :: 9.10 - Cannot Get Programs To Install

Jun 1, 2010

I started using Ubuntu a few days ago due to a classmates recommendation, and I simply cannot get this program I need for class to install. Or if it does, I don't know how to make it work.

I've got to install VMWare Server 2.0 for my class so we can make virtual computers and what not. But, no matter what I do I can't get it to install. Whenever I try to install it like I was told on various websites (here's one for examples sake [URL], I do this: sudo ./vmware-install.pl and get this: Can't install perl script "./vmware-install.pl" : No such file or directory

I've tried putting in stuff like home/computername/Desktop/vmware-install.pl, but I still get the same problem. I've racked my brain and my browser trying to figure this out, but I've had no luck.
